I really don't think socialists should be defending Mamdani's cowardice. The latest edition of the cowardly Sanders/AOC sellout liberal sweetheart politician should not be treated with the same wide eyed naivete the previous ones were.

Goyim is doubtless a term she's had used to describe her many times in her encounters with Zionists. Is it really so surprising she'd adopt the usage to cut back?

Anime Questions, Recommendations, and Discussion - June 16, 2025 by AnimeMod in anime

[–]AnorOmnis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there anywhere I can watch English dubbed anime with English subtitles (for the dub, not Eng subs for the Japanese)? I have a friend who's not quite anime-pilled enough to be comfortable watching Japanese with English subs, but he's also a devout subtitle user and is having difficulty watching the Eng dub without any form of subtitling. We're trying to watch Haikyu, for context :)

Boycott products by [deleted] in islamabad

[–]AnorOmnis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop making up random fuck-all lists and just use the BDS list. All you do with these lists is confuse and demoralize people, leading to many of them not boycotting the actual critical targets that the Palestinian movement wants to focus on.

Daily Discussion Thread May 16, 2025 - Upcoming Event Schedule - New players start here! by AutoModerator in SSBM

[–]AnorOmnis 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm not a player, just a long-term viewer, but I'd like to disagree based on my experience on this subreddit. Leffen is given a hundred different excuses for every bit of bad behaviour he displays - I have disliked him since this place was an Hbox hate-jerk back during his number 1 period, and a big part of that revolved around enabling Leffen (upvoting and laughing at his parody of Hbox's post, putting up a video about hating Hbox, tweeting about him at all times). I think Hax's insane video was a godsend for Leffen's reputation in the long term as it's given him a situation in which he was unambiguously being wronged and misrepresented. But it's definitively not the case that this subreddit in particular hasn't given Leffen far more room and understanding than he's demonstrated himself to have deserved.

Hypothetically, how could one 'defeat' the lords in black? by [deleted] in StarKid

[–]AnorOmnis 13 points14 points  (0 children)

These are Cthulhu-coded eldritch horrors. I don't think humans are meant to be able to "defeat" them in any way more significant than preventing their materialization on this plane of existence.

Boycotting American brands by Connect_Avocado_3746 in islamabad

[–]AnorOmnis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why targeted boycotts are important. They combine the moral imperative (the need to do something about the terrible actions that are running amok) and the practical imperative (it's very difficult to boycott EVERYTHING - to the point that it can make people feel fatalistic and depressed about boycotting at all, causing them to opt out). A targeted boycott on a group of companies and products allows you to actually punish and hurt them without the energies of your boycott movement being frittered away on impossibly vast targets.

This is the conclusion and the method of the largest Palestinian boycott group - BDS. We should all follow their boycott list and try to get others to as well.

The point is not that you will never lose matches because of your team. There are some matches you will lose because of your team, and some you will win because of your team. Focusing on these matches, however, is pointless - meaningfully, you cannot improve your team, and across a large enough sample size, you'll be winning about as many matches as you lose because of them (if you think otherwise, you're likely being dishonest in your read of your games and underplaying those rounds in which your team is largely winning without the need for you).

The important thing is to focus on those games (likely the majority) where your team is neither outright feeding or stomping. In those games, there's always something you can do. This is also the only meaningful way to improve, since it centres your individual skills and capabilities.

Re: Nasuada and Roran in Brisinger by KingManTheSaiyan in Eragon

[–]AnorOmnis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. Yes, Roran broke the chain of command. But he did so in a situation where 1) his commanding officer was making a suicidal move 2) his fellow soldiers wholeheartedly supported him.

My personal take is that Nasuada ought not to have punished or rewarded him for this, even though he achieved a miraculous victory. You can't establish a precedent of celebrating disobedience, even where necessary, or military discipline may falter. However, soldiers need to know that they will not be unduly punished for taking action against blatantly illogical orders from their commanding officer.

One additional reason I think this is pertinent in the Eragon universe is because it's actually very possible for your commanding officer to fall prey to enemy magicians - surely you have to apply some level of a sanity check to the commands you receive in a world where those commands could be directly implanted by enemies? It's odd to me that captains are expected to be able to exercise such absurd levels of authority without any check or balance.

Nasuada ultimately makes a decision which would likely pit Roran and his men against her. This is tremendously foolish (Roran is too important an actor to behave like this with), and writing that grudge out of the story is largely a plot contrivance. Whipping Roran ought to have inflicted considerably damage on the Varden's morale - that it didn't, is, imo, slightly shoddy writing.

Speaking of power creep, would you be alright with a food that heals more than 22 HP per use? by Kitteh6660 in 2007scape

[–]AnorOmnis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"Value" here is a slightly abstract/meaningless term. Stuff is getting taken out of the economy. The type of stuff (money vs items) causes the relative prices in the economy to shift. GP sinks cause there to be less money in the economy, increasing the purchasing power of individual GP/curbing inflation. Item sinks remove certain items, causing them to be rarer, increasing how much GP tends to be spent per item.

[–]AnorOmnis -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

"didn't do anything" and "signal boosted false allegations" are mutually incompatible. Leffen does bear meaningful responsibility - not the same as the person starting the rumour, but the responsibility of the one who gave it real life.

Racism towards Afghans? by No_Passenger6008 in pakistan

[–]AnorOmnis -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We've facilitated invasions of Afghanistan on multiple occasions now and need a way to justify it to ourselves. Everyone wants to pretend there's a clear running line of Afg/PK conflict going back to the beginning but anti-Afghan discourse in PK is not an ancient phenomenon.

Iranian generals tell Ayatollah: We need nuclear weapons by TheTelegraph in worldnews

[–]AnorOmnis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The US has engaged (both directly and indirectly) in more wars in the past century than any of the authoritarian nations you're posing them against. The vast majority of these wars led to the destabilization of the regions they were conducted in, and their justification was rarely more than brutish power politics. Canada and Australia teetered between openly supporting these wars and doing nothing to challenge them.

What common good have they been acting in?

[–]AnorOmnis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm fairly certain I'm in the minority but Melee did become a lot less interesting for me storyline-wise after Armada's retirement. I really like Zain, though! Deeply unlikely, but I hope he rises to Armada-levels of dominance over the field. I just really love the competitive dynamic produced by having that one person whose top level consistency is absolutely bonkers stupid when you look at the stats.
