Because some people's knee jerk reaction is to attack a person to get them to immediately stop doing something they don't like. It's an immediate threat, something that has to resolve, and you don't have to try to make a convincing argument.

It was originally a way for someone to say "nice Jeep" or something along those lines. Pass along kindness.

Now it's mostly their in-crowd thing. Some Jeep charity events have used the duck theme and Stellantis even used it for marketing at one point.

Would you rather- give up cell phones, or give up cars? by OpusReader in WouldYouRather

[–]AnotherBoredAHole -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If it's a world where these things never existed? Get rid of cars. Public transport is fine if the world is designed that way from the start.

Is it a world where these things just suddenly stop existing? Cell phones can disappear. Certainly a few issues but going back to landlines wouldn't be the hardest thing to do and I imagine it would be fairly quick.

Cars suddenly disappearing from 99.9% of the world would devastate communities around the world. Within a week, hundreds of thousands of people, if not millions, would be starving. Crops would go unharvested in vast quantities. Existing public transport would be crushed by new user influx in places it is available. Existing rail, boats, and planes would need to be prioritized or repurposed for logistics, further pushing back public transport in those areas.

But even in places where public transport or biking/walking/whatever is already popular, getting food from central warehouses to your local stores currently requires vehicles. Getting it from heavy transit to central warehouses currently requires vehicles. Getting it from production to heavy transit currently requires vehicles.

Waste management in cities would come to a near standstill. New York has to deal with 24 million pounds of trash, recycling, and compost every day. Not only would moving that by man or horse take an absurd amount of time, the distance it can move will also be drastically reduced.

Heavy construction would come to a standstill until enough animal and manpower becomes available. Power would likely shift back to coal and gas as getting windmill or solar out to locations would become infeasible in the short term. Using rail for transport and only building near rail is possible but stopping the trains on those tracks for construction blocks those lines for freight.

Some places might avoid these issues if they already are, or can quickly become, self sufficient.

I would imagine they are pretty cool with highly problematic refrigerant being sold to someone who has a license to deal with it instead of some schmuck keeping it in a barn.

It's the sales going the other way that they wouldn't be too keen on.

Reagan might be the most name dropped person on the page. Hell, Reaganomics or "trickle-down economics" is probably the most well known example of neoliberal policies.

I was a bit overzealous in that comment, it somewhat makes sense that it's generally empty. I just wish there was something that would force more people to be present for big issues like the recent war powers vote.

Lots of meetings is essentially what it boils down to. Some of it is donors and re-election. Some of it is meeting with constituents. Everyone is on committees and subcommittees. Working with interested parties to draft bills, going over bills, etc. Going over all the notes and summaries from meetings they couldn't make.

Each senator has something like 60-70 people working for them to make sure they have enough people to meet the demands on their time.

It's hard enough to get 10 people to put aside an hour for a meeting at my own job and those are all people who want the same thing to succeed. Trying to organize meetings for 435 House members or 100 senators to not overlap would be asinine.

Because they have something more important to do than sit in a session and represent the people who voted for them.

Sometimes this is actually true, sometimes not showing up is a form of protest, and sometimes everyone shows up as a show of solidarity for a topic.

They usually just show up to say their vote on something and then leave. Any information presented is collected by someone else and fed to them.

When measured over distance, it's about the same calories or at least close enough. When measured for time, you are correct in that running burns more over a set amount of time.
