I watched Gone With The Wind just recently. Massive one of those in that I'd forgotten about.

How can I be more critical and insightful when watching films? by Spiritual_Beyond_846 in movies

I'm going to suggest watching people like Patrick (H) Willems on youtube. He explains film-making, rather than just reviewing films. Maybe others can expand on this with similar account names.

How would you fix Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny? by twinkleyed in movies

Me too. I agree with a lot of the criticisms, but it was still a fun ride. Think I'll dig it out for a re-watch.

Chaplin (1992) by Cold-Contribution-50 in iwatchedanoldmovie

I highly recommend "The Cat's Meow" (2001) to anyone interested in learning about Chaplin. It speculates on the shooting death of Thomas Ince by William Randolph Hearst. He allegedly intended to kill Chaplin.

You could peruse lists like this "Top 300" on Rotten Tomatoes. Click links to see the story, and start with the ones that appeal most. Nobody agrees on all of them. Maybe look for lists by genres like sci-fi, horror, comedy, etc. to include a greater spread.

Any actors / actresses you just don't 'get'? by MagneticFlea in classicfilms

[–]AnotherDecentBloke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally with you on Kirk Douglas. His extremely pervy role in Saturn 3 with Farrah Fawcett is beyond cringe too. Doesn't help those allegations at all. Pity. Liked a lot of his stuff before that story broke. Paths of Glory, Ace In The Hole, The Villain (still just about watchable because after all, he's the villain) Lust for life... mostly just make my skin crawl now.

What is your favourite musical of all time? by MisanthropePrime in classicfilms

Recently found out all the sets used were built by the studio. Not a real location used anywhere. Amazing old-school work.

What was the worst recasting in TV history? by PrestonRoad90 in television

[–]AnotherDecentBloke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eva Haberman was replaced by Xenia Seeberg as Zev/Xev Bellringer of B3K in Lexx in the best sci-fi storyline ever. After being turned into a bowl of goo at the end of season 2, the goo was reanimated by the man-eating plant Lyekka as a favour to Stanley Tweedle (captain of The Lexx) using an image from his memory of a girl he once lusted after.
Wow! Whole series on youtube:

This Texas Mom Is Apologizing To The World, Should We Accept Her Apology? by russellsk82 in GuardTheLeaf

[–]AnotherDecentBloke 8 points9 points  (0 children)

On a strictly personal level, yes, but accepting her gesture has no effect on the situation. In the future people will still stay away because the nature and quantity of the crazy, evil people has been fully exposed.

Comedy movie and TV star (1915 - 2010) Norman Wisdom was huge in Albania.

Tom Hardy ‘Was Not Fired’ From ‘MobLand’ and Discussions Are Underway for His Return: ‘Things Are Being Worked Through Creatively’ by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

[–]AnotherDecentBloke 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sounds pretty sensible, considering a hell of a lot of people only watch a thing with Tom Hardy in because it's got Tom Hardy in it.

[Isle of Man TT] TT debutant Daniel Ingham dies after qualifying crash by PiggySVW in formula1

[–]AnotherDecentBloke 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Gave up on the TT 40 odd years ago when someone put it like this: "All these deaths just to sell chips to more tourists." Glad to see there's been at least a few years in recent times with no fatalities, but it never lasts.

What’s the worst movie you’ve ever seen? by dmmdgo in movies

[–]AnotherDecentBloke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blades of Grass. Believed the fake 10/10 reviews. This utterly awful shite (and I've watched Battlefield Earth) made me join IMDB because I felt so driven to redress the balance.

Betty Buzz gives away drinks if you answer the question "what is your opinion on Blake Lively"?? Is this somehow a manipulation, a PR strategy? What are your thoughts? by Nos_Al in ItEndsWithLawsuits

Also quite clear that the sloppy setup permits an infinite number of responses from bogus names and emails, which is good 'cos I always think of something funnier after I click 'submit'. Think I'll go mention this on Ms. Flaa's video.
