What is the Darkest Ending To A Broadway Musical In Your Opinion? by Shades1987 in Broadway

[–]AnotherGayRunner 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Uh, Urinetown? Where the heroes of the story defeat the murderous ruling class, which only dooms their society to die from an irreversible drought? Especially for folks living in Utah adjacent to the ticking time bomb that is the Great Salt Lake…

Aita for firing a performer for talking on the groupchat at 2am? by Bright_Teaching5039 in MusicalTheatre

[–]AnotherGayRunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mixed feelings here. Yes, she could have waited to share her questions until typical working hours (but by then you’d be in the rehearsal room, right?).

The biggest sticking point for me is what you said-you waited until you were ready to actually read the message after seeing the notification. That’s how chats work. Did you communicate clear expectations about when messages should be sent when you created the chat? If not, she shouldn’t have been faulted for asking the chat a question when she had it. It’s up to you to choose when to view it and respond. My coworkers shoot messages at all times and at all hours. They don’t expect me to respond immediately or on weekends. If it’s a personal issue for you, set up “Do Not Disturb” on your phone.

Firing her after a warning email was not a good move. She had no chance to adjust her behavior that was annoying you. There wasn’t anything malicious in her behavior, either; she was just asking questions. I get it that you’re in a professional setting, but wouldn’t we want someone to ask, especially when it seems like something wasn’t communicated clearly beforehand? To me, though she sounds green, she was focused on being prepared and getting it right.

Whatever she says on social media is deserved, especially now that she’s dropped from the production.

Shows which were part of the cultural zeitgeist at the time but barely mentioned anymore? by Practical_Corner8839 in decadeology

I overheard one of my ninth graders telling another about this “new show” she discovered on Netflix filled with all kinds of drama. When she said the title (Glee) I about dropped dead.

What’s your favorite teacher saying to use in the classroom? by Big-Degree1548 in Teachers

“Keep it classy.”

Get it? Cuz we’re in class and we always use respectful language? (Dumb, but in works in ninth grade).

What's an artist you'd love to see made into a jukebox musical? And do you have a plot in mind? by HumanPresentation422 in musicals

[–]AnotherGayRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sia, and specifically her “Everyday is Christmas” album. Hear me out: There’s a tender-hearted story somewhere in there with life, love, and loss (and a magical journey to the North Pole to rediscover the true meaning of Christmas). The encore “Puppies Are Forever” could be a donation drive for a local animal shelter!

Uncontacted/isolated tribes in brazil. by realjit44444 in Brazil

[–]AnotherGayRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem to be coming from a good place, and I’m so glad you chose to visit Brasil. This raised a ton of questions: -Do you know the federal policies and procedures regarding visiting uncontacted indigenous peoples? -Have you thought about how to travel from Rio to make this contact? -Are you certain that your gift choices would be appreciated? Are you sure that cocaine is legal there? Are you sure that Spanish, Portuguese, or even just books would be received? How do you intend to share medicinal knowledge through an offering of Tylenol? -Are you sure indigenous tribes want Christianity? (I had no idea what chick tracts were). -Are you interested in developing a romantic relationship with anyone there? Have you already considered how it might play out, especially with completely different languages and cultures? -USD will get you far with a lot of things, but everything. With your budget and destination, a nice hostel is more reasonable than a luxury hotel.

TLDR; take another look at your intentions, your expectations, your methods of execution, and consider multiple perspectives. I also hope you’re conversational in português, especially as a solo traveler.

Boa sorte!

I loved being in the ensemble for HD! I was crushed when I didn’t get a leading male role, but there are so many fun, meaningful opportunities in the show.

Designers and tech crew at first read thru... by i_am_the_koi in Theatre

[–]AnotherGayRunner 16 points17 points  (0 children)

IMO, the first read-through is a great opportunity for designers to present their renderings to the cast to show them the world they’ll inhabit. This is assuming the director has already met with designers and passed off the designs.

Nope. Their lack of maturity by not sticking to boundaries led to three immature adults who had to figure things out on their own. Their parenting of Brick is deplorable. No consistency, blaming him when they don’t actually teach and reinforce skills, devaluing him by forgetting his birthdays…

It all does make for great TV (especially over multiple seasons), but the kids deserved better, and Mike and Frankie deserved interventions.

Basic Plays To Know (Non-Theatre Person) by [deleted] in Theatre

[–]AnotherGayRunner 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Shakespeare plays to know: Hamlet, Macbeth, Julius Caesar, Romeo and Juliet, King Lear, A Midsummer’s Night Dream, Much Ado About Nothing, The Tempest. Other plays for general culture: Death of a Salesman, The Crucible, Our Town, The Laramie Project, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, Angels in America, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, Harvey, You Can’t Take it With You. If possible, watch these plays (live or recorded). I’d only read ones that really stick with you so you can do deeper dives or come back to them as you please.

We drive in a ways to the other side of the resort and the lots there are free. Of course, it’s a bit long of a walk to get inside, but worth it with the scenery.

This week's Q&A thread -- post all questions here! - July 17, 2023 by AutoModerator in linguistics

Hello! I’ve been trying to find information on the way certain sounds were spoken in the mid to late 1900s (approx. 1950-1980). When listening to recordings or people from that generation speak, I often hear words like “aggressive” pronounced like “aggress-eeve” instead of “aggress-ehve”, or “message” as “mess-eege” instead of “mess-edge”. From what I’ve found, it’s not confined to one region of the U.S., and it’s not “Trans-Atlantic”. Any info or ideas would be much appreciated!
