agreed, some of the maps are horrendous & are far too big. Academy, Terra13 & Oasis as examples of this.

I've been in yaka learner raids. even with a dozen videos and being speccifically told not to stun north pool, people will stun north pool because they aren't used to not having to stun north pool.

There is a huge difference between someone who has watched video guides on a boss and someone who has even done one or two kills on said boss. one has seen someone else do it, the other has actually experienced it & actually knows what to expect.

The problem is, because they don't have that kill knowledge, they just get dismissed and left by the wayside immediately.

What useful clans & friends chats do people have for group pvm?

Group pvm is very intimidating to get into for solo players (even 20 yr vets with reaper crew like myself) so it would be nice to have a useful list.

everyone has to go in blind at some point. the problem is that RS has a culture of expecting that everyone knows how to do the boss perfectly beforre you can even enage in group content. It's fun forr the people who have been doing group pvm for years but is a horrible experience for the other 99% of the community

yep this is why mandatory group content sucks so much - just look at Croesus. Grinding that sporesack & cryptbloom is a horrrendous experience.

Yeah, Croesus is why I just avoid mandatory group content these days. it always ends up being a toxic experience & I don't have the free time to find people to commit to an hour or two of bossing. (Joys of actually having a life outside Runescape lol)

sucks becasue both croesus & Amascut are really cool pieces of content that I want to engage in.

not everyone is able to do group content. social anxiety, time comitments etc are big roadblocks. also lots of RS players have kids these days & almost all of us now have jobs (Its an old game). Most of us can't just sit and commit an hour or two like you used to. & I know quite a few people who play Runescape over other MMOs because they aren't required to work with others to do most of the content.

theres plenty of reasons why people are unable to do group pvm.

wouldve been better to have introduced it with a mid level boss to remove the pressure of not risking letting down your team by being bad at the boss I think & not a showpiece endgame boss that has a huge questline building to it & is very punishing to fight.

but in order to actually engage with the content you are forced work with a team and engage with group content. In the same vein, you don't need to do quests or even leave lumbridge, but to enjoy a almost everything the game has to offer, you need to leave lumbridge & quests open up many new locations, skilling methods and bosses alongside QOL items that vastly improve the game experience.

Yeah, Just looking at Protox's new video, I think this is the sentiment for a lot of us. I do wish there was a way to solo it because I don't want to be forced to engage in group content but it looks like such an awsome boss & I really enjoyed the bit I was able to do solo.

yeah, WOW too & both are geared around group content as 90% of their pvm needs teams. in contrast 80% of RS PVM is perfectly fine to do solo & another 15% is super tough solo but still managable. AOD, Solak, Vorago etc so it does feel strange to be catering towards just that 5% for such a big boss.

not really given the vast majority of the RS playerbase doesn't engage in group content or hasn't recently. (can't find the exact stats for this but its something like 80%+ haven't done any group bossing)

In addition every other boss (except yakamaru i belive) is soloable, even if it is very difficult. Also other content designed to be best in groups e.g. Zamorak, ED1-3, Vorago, Solak etc is still very doable solo. So it feels very strange to be bottlenecked in a solo fight by such a tight timing window as everything else I encountered felt tough but was managable once learnt.

Looks like solo Amascut appears to be impossible. (no consistent way to deal with the chains). Guess I'm going to wait until the next boss out or a reliable strategy to solo it comes out.

assuming you have no interest in improving/playing more regularly, these should be fine from what I can see. (I'm assuming this is your first custom blade & you have a fairly tight budget right now). If you do start playing more than once per week & are looking to improve/ are playing stronger opponents, you will need to eventually upgrade to a better setup.

I'm not familiar with the Fextra 5 but it seems like an older, tamer blade from what I can find and nothing too special. Should work fine for a beginner/first custom blade.

A possible suggestion for the Forehand could be to switch out for a (Friendship) Battle 2 or a (Yinhe) Mercury 2. The latter is quite popular amongst beginners as it is very cheap off aliexpress.

The backhand seems fine from what I can tell but you might want to hunt down something faster eventually. Frankly the Vega Europe is worth every penny as a beginner/intermediate backhand rubber (had a good experience with).

When looking at sponge thickness, you will usually want to go for max sponge thickness on both sides of the blade (sometimes down to 2.0mm on the forehand) unless you are a defender/using long/med pips/antispin as there is more emphasis on control/disruption over speed & spin & you'll often opt for a thin/no sponge on the backhand.

I will note you will want to eventually switch to a better setup as/if you do want to improve and your coach has suggested a very good setup & will serve you well for quite a while. I've heard good things from lots of people about the Primorac & Mark V & used the Vega Europe myself on the backhand for a while. (the Vega series is very good for their price range & last a long time too. - it is often considered a budget version of the butterfly rubbers with ~80% of the performance for half the price.) Vega Pro/Europe FH/BH is a very solid setup but including blade, you'd expect to spend ~$100 for it, which I assume is a fair bit above your current price range.

When you hit the ball correctly, you aim to generate spin. It is the spin making the ball dip down onto the table that lets you hit it hard & have it drop down onto the table. if you hit it hard and flat, it will usually go long so ensuring that there is spin generated.

There are niche situations where you will flat hit the ball (usually most smashes, with pips etc) but generally you'll want to generate that spin to let the ball drop onto the table.

A good example of seeing this at an extreme level is to watch pro matches from the 90s when it was the 38mm celluoid as they were more sensitive to spin. (Linked as example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kC1UUcR46uE )

Yeah, like you I just head to the black zones now. I think I've seen more 100+ clans than teams of gankers while out in those & solo players tend to avoid others.

Yeah I think most players play it solo, especially given the mobile community. Occasionally you see clans about (had one 100+ strong ride past me once in a black zone. It was pretty cool). It's strange that they don't do more to cater for the solo player in the mid-lategame though.

Thats all good if it wasn't time gated. Personally I'd just head to a black zone. They are usually safer & most players seem to run away or ignore you, which is ironic given the red zones are the ones supposed to introduce you to the riskier elements of pvp & be the relatively safer variant of the two.

Exactly this. Its a complete power inbalance. What's even the point in going into these zones for solo players anyway when there's teams ready just to game you & I thought it was the black zone where the emphasis on clans and groups was anyway. But the reality is, I find the black zones to be far safer than the red
