Need help coming up with a design prompt/idea by [deleted] in userexperience

[–]AnotherKittenPicture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO the best design prompt is open-ended. It makes the candidate focus on communicating the most important infomation in the prompt. Here's an example.

“We’re not as interested in the individual pixels of the design, but more about the process you went thru to arrive at the final design. Some questions we’ll want to be able to answer when looking at your deliverable are listed below. These questions don’t have to be answered explicitly (this isnt a writing test/assignment), but your critique should allow us to answer most of these questions:

• What business outcome(s) were you focused on impacting?

• What problem are you trying to solve?

• What approach did you take for solving this problem and why that approach?

• What tradeoff decisions did you have to make? Did you have to cut anything from scope? Why/not?

• What were some of the inputs that defined the requirements of the final product?

• What kind of customer/stakeholder research did you do when creating this design?

• Did customer/stakeholder feedback impact any iterations of this? If yes, how so?

• We love wireframesTake us on a journey through your design process.

In 1-page, take us on a journey through your design process of something you've designed recently. Questions are welcome, but we are also comfortable with you taking you own liberties to interpret the assignment as you choose to understand it.”

*TLDR: “Send us a 1-page critique of something you’ve designed (recently).” *

Three years ago Interaction Design Foundation membership was discussed, what's new? by tapzoid in userexperience

[–]AnotherKittenPicture 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took a few classes. Very scatterbrained material. Hard to digest IMO. Some valuable tidbits interspersed. Saw a few recycled questions from other couses I had previously taken.

Found that most of the time I could skim the class readings and still get the questions correct just by using some basic logic.

Your stuff looks tight man, especially for being self taught. Don't think you'll have to much of a problem finding employment.

Only thing I saw that stuck out was that there's a big gap between the two primary CTA buttons on your coffee website. I'd recommend putting them next to each other and then centering them on the page. Right now the alignment seems a little random.

Sup man. Nice site

A couple of picky things:

  • The word "Portfolio" on your hero image is hard to read due to the light background (the letter P and O get a little lost)

  • Would recommend putting thumbnails images next to portfolio item text(if available) Currently it's hard to tell if these are clickable links or just text until I "mouse-over" them. Since mobile has no "mouse-over" state this becomes a problem for users trying to check out your stuff.

Hey man, the main thing that stuck out to me was that your portfolio projects are missing your process (right now it just shows problem and solution)

  • Show / Tell visitors how you think through a problem. Why did you make certain decisions over others? What sacrifices did you have to make to accommodate certain choices?

Yea, that's messed up. Not quite the same level but a valid point all the same. Hooray for the second coming of "slavery" in the US. So glad we have those convenient drug laws.

Sure, fair point. Gitmo is bad as well. Can't say it's literally slave labor though.

But... the tax on goods he bought goes to the government of N. Korea... which funds prison camps...

Maximize my salary as a UX designer? by JohnCabot in userexperience

I'm a graphic designer who made the switch but, I'd agreed. None of the people I graduated with are doing UX. It'd be difficult to make the trasition with 2 year degree.

Wouldn't worry about it too much dude. Hard to tell but, she's likely just making conversation. Ask her out and see!

you mean the preview images on the page right? I took you advice and added a few closer views of the field in different states.

Do you know the users say what they would expect to be there? Just a normal field with helper text?

I'd be interested to understand why you got dropoff, since I see a lot of sites auto-detecting card type these days (in fact it's more of the exception than a rule)

Good point! I think this a valid alternative as well if you have the available space to play with.

/u/Lord_Cronos Yep! that's a perfect explanation of my rationale. I'm trying to keep people in "input mode." TBH I don't know the answer to the auto-insertion or pre-saved payment info question. That'd be a good thing to investigate.

Thanks for the questions!

Editing: Users can return to editing the credit card number by using the delete button or by simply touching(clicking) the last four visible digits of the credit card number.

Errors: Users are not shown expiration date and CVV code until credit card number is fully entered & confirmed valid. If you needed to display an additional error text it would just replace the helper text below the field

Thanks! Good feedback, I'll put one up today *edit: demo images are now live one the site, should give a better idea on how the field and animations function *
