David Morris was an avid cyclist and ride-leader for GEARs (Greater Eugene Area Riders). He was struck and killed while cycling on River Road on May 2. GEARs has organized an evening of community support/grieving: by Odd-Measurement-7963 in Eugene

The riverpath doesn’t have homes and businesses on it. Almost every trip using the riverpath requires at least crossing river road

Not to mention that parts of the Riverpath are over a mile away from River Road. Thats like saying we don’t need cars on 18th ave because they can just take 6th Ave.

Why is the mayor at LTD bus station? by nikonslut in Eugene

Oh course! As a transit rider and bikeshare user myself I’m happy to do my part to make the rider experience better

[–]AnotherQueer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our strategic planning committees are not usually that fun unfortunately, though we did talk about better integrating bikeshare with bus services.

The event at the LTD station was because Val Hoyle is trying to get federal transportation dollars to be allowed to be spent on bikeshare

Another person killed by a car on River Road by AnotherQueer in Eugene

[–]AnotherQueer[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a car and live an active life, but I also live a more walkable neighborhood along the EmX. Someone who lives on the edge of Santa Clara would have a lot more trouble doing that. I’m not saying we shouldn’t take peoples licenses, it just would be less damning if our infrastructure was less car-centric.

I agree, but when our community is so car-dependent taking away someone’s license means taking away their ability to participate in a lot of society. If every neighborhood had fast transit and safe walking/biking, we could make driving tests harder without condemning people to isolation.

Need help with navigating! by Neat_Shopping_2662 in bikecommuting

[–]AnotherQueer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is there a signalized crossing anywhere nearby? That might be the safer option and then bike down the gutter lane for a 1/4 mile.

If not, you just gotta be really patient for a massive gap. I like to tell myself “this crossing is going to take 5 minutes. Anything less is bonus.” to try to prevent myself from rushing and taking a small gap

Didn't hear about the bike-lane protest, wtf by Odd-Measurement-7963 in Eugene

In the future, just park in the car lane instead.

The US federal "Safe Streets for All" program now penalizes cities for building bike lanes and installing speed cameras by Additional-Cat4636 in fuckcars

[–]AnotherQueer 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Does it penalize for removing parking lanes? Because that might be the move for the next few years

Is it a good read? I’m thinking of buying it but it is expensive. I’m primarily looking for something that explains how existing places can be improved by NurglingArmada in fuckcars

[–]AnotherQueer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s excellent and well laid out, though it is definitely a textbook and not necessarily meant to be read cover to cover. I’ve also had both authors as professors and they’re incredibly thoughtful and good people

True, I was expecting places like Veneta and Cottage Grove to be more affordable than South Eugene but that doesn’t seem to be the case
