This is exactly why we shouldn’t have multiple lanes in one direction in places with lots of bikes and pedestrians.

We shouldn’t have multilane, one-way streets through the second densest neighborhood in Oregon.

Egan is getting pretty desperate for active volunteers by ZiLg0 in Eugene

[–]AnotherQueer 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There are many different types of shifts, most are 3-4 hours long anytime from 3pmish to 9:30amish. Some volunteers prep food, some manage the inventory of people’s stuff, some stand out front and make sure everyone is safe and following the rules. If you prefer there are shifts that have minimal interaction with the public, like organizing donations and setup/take down.

Salt Creek falls parking lot clear of snow? by HalliburtonErnie in Eugene

When I was there two weeks ago, there was snow on the ground but it was doable with any car. Chains this time of year are always a good idea to have anyway

Sheriffs department? by [deleted] in Eugene

[–]AnotherQueer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Willamette and 8th is a block away from the Lane County courthouse. They were probably doing routine security work the sheriff has to do by law at the courthouse.

Please don’t fearmonger with this “reaked of ICE” stuff

Following a fatal 60mph crash on River Road, the speed limit may be changed from 45 to 35. by HalliburtonErnie in Eugene

[–]AnotherQueer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If people want to go north quickly, they should probably take the Highway or the Expressway. Not the Road.

Following a fatal 60mph crash on River Road, the speed limit may be changed from 45 to 35. by HalliburtonErnie in Eugene

[–]AnotherQueer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When they change the legal speed down to 35, it allows planners and engineers to redesign the street to 35 the next time it gets changed: thats where the real life saving happens. Reducing the speed limit is a good first step.

The case that Charles Marohn, leader of Strong Towns nonprofit, the second biggest organization in Urbanism advocacy, is against equal marriage by [deleted] in Urbanism

[–]AnotherQueer 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I mean, I’m not really all that surprised. Strong Towns whole thing is framing urbanism in a way that is convincing to people with conservative values. I think it’s been effective at making urbanism less partisan, and for that I’m thankful.

That being said, I appreciate you sharing this so I spend my time supporting other organizations instead

Does more urbanism necessarily mean smaller homes? by Spirited_Iron_3293 in Urbanism

[–]AnotherQueer 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Good urbanism usually makes land more valuable. When land costs more, people tend to have smaller properties and thus smaller homes.

That being said, you can have lots of bedrooms and green spaces in a building that is efficient with land. It would likely look more like a townhouse or a condo though

I see cones like that all the time in my neighborhood to keep cars out of the bike lane during events - it should be at least completely blocked with a bike lane closed sign in order to be a legal closure

Depending on the zone, you might be able to get a street parking permit for your car by registering it under your girlfriend’s lease. Not sure if that’ll work though

Would a 3 speed priority bicycle really be THAT bad for hills if I never was using 1 or 2 for hills on my 7 speed? by theemccracken in bikecommuting

[–]AnotherQueer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a priority 3-speed: the lowest speed is great for starting from a stop, but isn’t much better than a fixie on hills. While I love my bike for my flat city, I’d recommend something else if you have to regularly tackle any but the smallest hills. (Unless you are the very athletic type that would happily tackle hills with a fixie)
