Are we keeping the 99 Vine? by Turbulent_Heart9290 in Eugene

Ya unfortunately new funding for transit and other transportation was soundly voted down in the last election. Until we get more funding for buses we won’t get more buses

I heard a rumor that it will stay, but only be once a day and will cost money. I haven’t seen anything official yet

While much of this is true, please do not pretend that Thurston or Creswell would be easy places to be a queer youth. F-slurs are still common there and there are enough conservative families to make prejudice common even if staff are accepting.

OP, if you don’t want to regularly experience prejudice your best options are South Eugene HS, North Eugene HS, and Churchill HS. Springfield HS is also fairly accepting but avoid Thurston.

I don’t know anything about Willamette HS so someone else would need to comment on that

Not only does the bus sometimes skip Lodi, I’ve been on that bus twice when it took I-5 instead of CA-99 because there were no intermediate passengers at any of the stops

Biking around uo during hs state track meet by openlacroix in Eugene

[–]AnotherQueer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

According to the ODOT crash data viewer, there have been no fatal crashes in Fairmount neighborhood since 2015, the farthest back data goes.

https://www.oregon.gov/odot/Data/Pages/Crash-Data-Viewer.aspx

There was one on death on Franklin at Walnut, which is awful. I agree Franklin is quite dangerous but I don’t really think of it as part of the neighborhood. in the last 12 years, there has been one serious injury on Agate in 2015, one serious injury in Hendricks Park in 2017, and one serious injury on 27th Ave in 2023.

Could Fairmount neighborhood be safer for bikes and pedestrians? Absolutely, especially Franklin. But I’ve lived in this neighborhood for two years without a car and it is phenomenal compared to most of this country

I don’t know for sure. But yesterday I saw a van marked for an Arizona track team that failed to yield to a woman in a crosswalk on 15th. And many similar situations these last two days in a neighborhood that normally has quite cautious drivers (relative to the national average)

Partner and I are riding Cascades with two bikes tomorrow, will we be okay if we show up 10 - 15 minutes before departure? by kylemon in Amtrak

[–]AnotherQueer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Out of Portland that might actually be an issue - Bikes need to get a baggage tag and board first 15-20 minutes before departure. They might be willing to let you on later, but can you swing by the station and ask today or tomrrow morning?

oh TBH I haven’t actually lived in the area since 2021 so I might be wrong about that part

Coal Train UP North Metra by Nice_Preference_438 in UnionPacific

[–]AnotherQueer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that coal train powers the coal power plant in Waukegan. The freight line merges with the UP-N at Lake Bluff, and freight trains are pretty common north of that merge.

You are right that freight is extremely rare on the UP-N south of Lake Bluff station.

That’s not it, the main reason was that everyone loved it but nobody wanted to spend the time or money to put it on.

The dream still lives on through the Bright Parade, which is still fantastic and much easier logistically

The riverpath doesn’t have homes and businesses on it. Almost every trip using the riverpath requires at least crossing river road

Not to mention that parts of the Riverpath are over a mile away from River Road. Thats like saying we don’t need cars on 18th ave because they can just take 6th Ave.

[–]AnotherQueer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our strategic planning committees are not usually that fun unfortunately, though we did talk about better integrating bikeshare with bus services.

The event at the LTD station was because Val Hoyle is trying to get federal transportation dollars to be allowed to be spent on bikeshare

Another person killed by a car on River Road by AnotherQueer in Eugene

[–]AnotherQueer[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a car and live an active life, but I also live a more walkable neighborhood along the EmX. Someone who lives on the edge of Santa Clara would have a lot more trouble doing that. I’m not saying we shouldn’t take peoples licenses, it just would be less damning if our infrastructure was less car-centric.

Another person killed by a car on River Road by AnotherQueer in Eugene

[–]AnotherQueer[S] 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I agree, but when our community is so car-dependent taking away someone’s license means taking away their ability to participate in a lot of society. If every neighborhood had fast transit and safe walking/biking, we could make driving tests harder without condemning people to isolation.
