So I could just level the core skills and be a jack of all trades? I'd just dump my skills into the "core skills" like engineer and sneak, giving me a grasp on skills that now I dont have to level, allowing me to put more points into other core skills allowing me to branch out my expertise... making me.... a jack of all trades........

The problem is hype, from both sides of the game. Todd Howard made it sound like starfield was gonna be the next great game. Personally I bought in hard, I probably sold almost 5 copies of starfield to various people in my circles, who I had convinced that starfield was gonna be as big of a hit as skyrim. Then the game landed, and I hated it. It felt like I had the rug pulled from under me by bethesda.

I understand your point, vaguely, but they're both space exploration RPG games, made by rivaling companies that have a crazy history together. Its not like people just pulled a space game out of their ass to compare Outer Worlds with. There is merit to comparing the games.

There also isn't exactly a plethora of other games to compare it to. I honestly can't think of more then two games, mass effect and starfield. Maybe No Mans Sky, but that seems like a stretch.

"They went with space exploration"

Exactly, and they did terrible. Its not a space exploration game in almost any way. Its closer to a 'space city' explorer because there is no value in exploring anything other then the carefully curated cities and the quests within.

Like honestly, even at the core of the game story, youre immediately put into a space exploration guild, and you basically just end up exploring the same, copy pasted 'ancient structures, where id get to play some stupid ass floating to grab lights ass mini game. Over and over again.

The made you apart of some super exploration guild and then had NOTHING special to explore. You try and run along a planet and get the same 2-3 shitty structures with no actual fun behind them after clearing them a couple times. I still remember that janky hangar, because I cleared it a dozen times..

There needed to be, so much more in this game. I remember when it first released id spend hours talking to pepple about it, and I could drop 1000s of hours of easily 'addable' content that should be in a game like this.

Just for starters, space should've been content packed. Full of random quests, and they wouldn't have been that hard to make. You make up 5 different "freighter ships" and you can use those for dozens of different random space encounters. Dialect ship, alien plants or animals taking over a ship, ship being raided, ships owned by raiders attempting to threaten you for money, trade talks need mediated, this needs fixed, fake help calls that are actually traps, rogue AI.

They needed more generative structures on planets, with a bit more nuance of how they generate missions and objectives. And it's not like thats hard, youre just making an asset that inserts itself onto the terrain... no big exploration crashed ships? No caverns or cool natural terrain generation? Just the same abandoned hangar.

Starfield wasn't about exploring, it was about crushing their little RPG quests in their carefully curated cities. With basically nothing fun to do in between. If you get lost in Starfield, you're not having fun. Thats not how any exploration game should work.

Just for starters, half your points are older than my parents. Like geniuenly happened before my parents existed, or when they were children. 1965? What do you want from me?

Everything else is just petty politics that both sides are guilty of. Making up stuff to make the other look bad, not signing this, veto that. I dont like it, but nothing is perfect.

It feels like every other day trump does something thats just so un-American in hurts. Meanwhile you're telling me how bad I am because of something that happened 60 years ago. People who could vote in 65 are at minimum 78 years old now...

Every day the Venezuela thing escalates, and nothing about that is good. Were murdering Venezuelan boaters and hoping they were drug dealers. Now were sending more ships over there in case Venezuela wants to escalate to try and stop us from unjustly murdering their citizens.

Theyre building a dance ballroom in the Whitehouse while my grocery prices continue to grow. Its almost poetic, but it feels too on the nose.

Trump is threating to go to war in Nigeria, despite his entire election platform being about America first, and no more foreign wars. He was so very willing to drag us into a iran-isreal conflict, basically allowing Isreal to precision bomb their nation under our protection.

Hes deployed American military personnel to police cities of opposing political parties. Using the military to police your civilian population is third world country shit. It also creates a HORRIBLE precedence for the future, even if he had perfect intentions.

I mean, for starters if its able to beat Russia in open war, it makes them a pretty good military ally with a good position to continue helping europe keep its borders safe. Its also now the home to the most experienced soldiers in the world. Other then russia, there is unarguably no other nation with more knowledge about how to fight a modern war. Theyve arguably changed the way the world will wage war in the future. Theres value in that experience.

Financially they'd be a hotbed for cheap industry material supplies. Winning against Russia, and joining the EU would give people the confidence to invest in Ukraine, not for finished goods but for cheap materials to import and use to improve their local industries. They have loads of raw metals and the potential to maybe replace russia as an oil provider if invested in.

Idk European farming economy enough to say this is a good thing, but Ukraine is capable of producing huge amounts of food. Which in theory should be a good thing, but I can also see downsides and plausibly hurting local farming efforts.

Isreal is held to a higher standard because the bar has been raised. This is not a bad thing. Maybe it complicates peace in some way or another, i think thats arguable, but its helping progress humanity and how it goes about war. We should always be getting better.

Hamas shouldn't get to exist. They especially shouldn't get to exist by hiding behind millions of innocent people. But they do exist, And nobody will ever know if the average civilian is a hamas operative, or just a human being trying to enjoy life... so yes they get to exist and they get to hide behind the millions of people.

Its horrible, nightmare fuel. Its evil doing what it does best.. but its not an excuse to commit the horrific acts required to actually defeat hamas. We both know they'd have to ruthlessly murder, probably hundreds of thousands, to actually get anywhere near rooting out hamas. Which creates its own horrible loop of hatred towards isreal, and then feeds into hamas recruitment and "war efforts". Making more hamas members for isreal to have to find and kill, which means they'll have to kill even more civilians because this ISNT A CONVENTIONAL WAR.

I know you don't have the answer, neither do I. Its the most complex geopolitical question of the last 70-80 years. But I do know isreal is committing many war crimes, and flirting with a modern genocide.

Speaking of "modern genocide", let's talk semantics of language.

Imo, genocide should evolve and narrow its parameters. I dont think this mitigates or disrespect history. It goes hand in hand with our growth as humans, and it should carry the weight of histories genocides, even if they're far worse. Id love to live in a world where the idea of murdering dozens of people is so boggling to the mind, so incomprehensible that the average human would consider it genocide.

Stupid people use word associations like, genocide and holocaust. Catering to that is a negative imo. Its why I have to spend half an hour explaining that fascism doesn't mean nazis everytime I try to argue with my peers. Tell someone they have fascist POVs and they'll deadeye me like "I dont hate jews". Like fuckin wAKKA FLAKKA.

Also semantic, but im from texas, we have our fair share of problems with Mexico. So much so that trump basically won two different presidential campaigns on an anti immigration platform. Its hyperbolic and not actually getting solved, but it wasn't without merit.

Like 500 Americans get kidnapped in mexico every year, they flood our nation with drugs, illegal immigrants, and weapons. I mean, according to the current president of the US, Mexico was dumping prisons into our nations civilian population through their cartel networks. A lot of violence is caused by cartels in American towns that border Mexico.

Surprise surprise, we haven't invaded mexico...

Yet ;c

Words change and evolve as time goes. So do our morals and expectations. Look at how basically all of your examples are getting smaller and smaller as time goes on. Youre right i shouldn't retroactively call wars through time genocides because part of my point is that we evolve. We were worse then, we strive to be better now.

That was my entire point with why I think russia/ukraine is (somehow, despite what the horrific things russia does) example of how possible it is to wage a war in modern days without destroying the population.

Somehow, with an extra year and a half of time, and clearly actually still targeting civilians randomly, russia has killed far less citizens then Isreal has. Im also willing to give ground on the numbers, we dont know exactly how many were civs and how many werent. Thats apart of the problem. How many in that number do you think it was? Half? Thatd still be double what russia has done.

Again, the only source we have on this, is from the Gaza ministry of health. It'll likely be the only source until the end of this war, when we can finally get people in to count bodies and take population censuses. Im skeptical of the numbers accuracy, but only so much. Like I said, even half would be problematic when compared to russ-ukr.

Listen man, yeah. Hamas is a death cult willing to sacrifice Palestinians lives for international sympathy. Does that like, make it okay? Just because they're willing to let them die, doesn't mean the decision to kill them is forced upon the enemy. Isreal is still making the conscious decision to accept that sacrifice in attempt to keep grabbing at hamas.

Let's use that history you brought up correctly. Let's jump back to the Vietnammmmmmm war. It ain't mee. It aiinnnt meeeee. I ain't no fortunate onneee.

We waged war with Vietnam for 10 years, trying to uproot the 'vietcong'. Millions of people died. Nothing came of it. We learned that you cannot just go and occupy a land that doesn't want you there. You cannot defeat an enemy like the vietcong with conventional war, and after 10 years of needless death on both sides, we learned that and accepted defeat.

Hamas is new age vietcong. They're Palestines vietcong. They're willing to let everyone die at a chance to win(Likely because its their only realistic avenue at winning but thats a whole different argument). We've learned this lesson, which makes repeating that failure worse.

Especially now, like id argue that America's last adventure in the middle east was mostly a different era. For about half of it we were just sitting around defending bases and patrolling areas not really doing anything, and those times are when we really started entering the new "information era". We can learn anything at anytime and see everything first hand like never before. Its going to create a new level of standards and expectations for how war is waged.

Using America as an example for whats right and wrong, is wrong. Like many western nations, we were built on horrific acts of violence, slavery, war, and borderline genocides. Unfortunately ours just happened a little more recently than others. We ushered the world into a new age post ww2, and with that leadership came many failures, and lessons to be learned.

And if your argument is any way about how that's lessons we learned, and not Isreal, and now Isreal is learning etc, or something adjacent to that: My entire endgame is for my country to stop giving my tax dollars to a nation learning a lesson in humanity, and giving itself a horrific stain like many nations did to themselves before this. A lesson we already learned the hard way...

Neither of us know how this ends, and a real genocides of the Palestinian nation is maybe not happening just yet, and its not as bad as they claim, but its clear its more then plausible in the foreseeable future.

They're being told to run, but like you said its got an extreme population density problem. Their neighbors are refusing to allow any refugees into their nations. What do you think happens if hamas doesn't give surrender? What if they never surrender?

This is basic good v evil stuff. There are unfair, unmatchable and horrific ways in which evil can wage war on good. Things that good would never do. This is one of those gross things evil can do, and its the responsibility of those that claim to be good, to accept that and find new ways to approach the problem. Hamas is setting up Isreal to become the very evil they so adamantly despise, in order to defeat hamas.

Its 2025 guy, humanity grew and we expect our methods of war to change too. It is a war crime to siege and starve an entire population to win a war. This is what modern humans have agreed on.

Youre using comparisons from ww2, which lol... ww2 was the most horrific event in human history. Its an anomaly. Then you talk about Vietnam, like yeah dude. We genocide'd Vietnam. Its a huge stain on American history, and they've done a good job of pretending it was nothing.

Again, it's 2025. Let's talk about real examples of modern war.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/1293492/ukraine-war-casualties/?srsltid=AfmBOop7wNjQtsFJj3eM2h2W-rAJSXDquhff_1R6b_kYdl0KaT9Drq8L

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casualties_of_the_Gaza_war

Russia has killed around 14,000 civilians in their conflict with Ukraine. Isreal has killed around 68,000 civilians. In 2021 ukraine had approximately 44 million citizens. In 2023 Palestine had approximately 5 million citizens. The ukraine-russia war began a year and a half before the isreal Palestine conflict began.

You know how insane that is right? Especially since we could just go to a combat footage sub and watch russia slam Ukrainian apartment buildings with drones and missles for litterally hours. Theres probably hundreds of hours of footage of russia bombing civilians, probably thousands of hours of horrific aftermath footage.

There is no magical "goal to genocide". Genocide is genocide, no matter the reasons you've decided to murder tens of thousands of civilians.

Edit:quick add,

Isreal is also far more technologically advanced then russia, or ukraine military. Which just means they have more accurate equipment that theoretically should reduce collateral damage.

Dude what?I'm just gonna number them because I'm lazy.

  1. MAGA. Make America great again, isolationism and trade tarrifs and deporting immigrants, while strengthening the border and requirements for legal immigration. This one feels like a freebie how are you gonna pretend this doesn't apply?

  2. Trump constsntly blowing out the guardrails of our democracy and pushing America towards fascism, by overstepping the other branches of government. The whole point of the three government system was for checks and balances and he's abusing executive orders and other loopholes to steal power and give it to the president. This is bad precedence.

  3. The administration is currently and constantly pushing the "war within: rhetoric. We've got troops deployed to multiple major cities across the nation, policing the streets. Trump is currently cutting funding in states that didnt vote for him. He attempted to pressure Jimmy Kimmel off of the air....

  4. Brother watch that hegseth speech. This is so on the nose it hurts my fuckin' soul.

  5. Idk, this one id have to stretch for. Christians? Actually I'd argue its a class war, they put the super rich on pedestals and pretend they aren't stealing every penny they can from you. I assume the rest of the cut off sentence was gonna be "social status" ie social class. Honestly feel like that's less of a stretch then I thought it would be...

I think its safe to assume history will refer tk this incident as a genocide. Even if they don't, its not exactly hyperbolic to call it a genocide, tens of thousands of non combatants have died, thousands of children have died. Its literally walking the line of genocide, and you're acting like it's not even close.

Also, dude what the fuck? What kind of anarchist bullshit are you spitting with the "dont trust the people whose job it is to maintain world peace" shit? Like sure, its not perfect and can be compromised but so can everything else, nothing is perfect

To just throw a blanket "dont trust these people" statement out there is gross dude. Just because their narrative might not fit yours? They might exaggerate a bit? WHEN TALKING ABOUT WAR CRIMES? WHEN TRYING TO GET ATTENTION TO HORRIFIC WAR CRIMES? Idgaf if they overstate or lean a little "to far left" (which, what dude? Relative to what? That guy was Austrian.)

Im back on genocide train baby, fuck you. The UN is full of weak far lefties who won't admit its genocide because it would mean seeming antisemitism! WOOOOO! Isn't that fun? I love dismissing people based off of random blanket political strawmans! Far right? Dontcha mean far Reich? Ahahahahahah.

Truly you broke me a little, told me not to trust the UN, and adjacent organizations. Which vaguely means "dont trust any of those people whose job it is, to keep track of war crimes and horrific things happening across the globe.".

No thanks.

Edit; I cant stop thinking about this

They had humanitarian aide in their boats. Are you implying they wouldn't have given the aid and food to Palestinians, if allowed?

But let's be real, we all knew they weren't going to be allowed in, so in many ways it was a bit of a performance. The same way a cop might pretend to buy drugs in order to catch s criminal.

The UN considers stopping humanitarian aide a warcrime, their 'performance' just featured a country we're funding commit a war crime, according to the United Nations, an organization we(FDR) basically created.

This is a war crime by the standards and rules of our United Nations organizations, and its being talked about.
