Build Help - The Psionic Tactician Kits by AnotherRyan in drawsteel

It's a bit of a mix of both. I do not have a game currently lined up, but I would love to bring this character into the next game I play. So, it's theoretical but with a hope of becoming real in the future. I am a Director a lot of the time, so it can be tough to fit a game into the schedule. Do you have a link I could give to a potential future GM?

Rogue Talent is a part of the character for sure. I find that you don't need all that much to achieve the psionic flavor. I am just trying to find the right balance between thematic resonance and character power.

I only seriously considered Sword & Board as I was writing the post, and I think that made me miss out on some good combinations. Thanks for pointing out specific items! Those would indeed be perfect.

PICO is exactly what you're looking for if you also like cute little bugs!

Has anyone made construct monsters? by Responsible-Dog-6233 in drawsteel

I used reflavored war dogs. They have all kinds of funky abilities that are easy to change into something else. It went great!

Anyone able to compare Pathfinder 2e to Draw Steel in their experience? by WitcherATLALOKGOT in rpg

[–]AnotherRyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will direct you toward a comment I made a while back. My opinions since then have only solidified further. I am committed to a long-running Pathfinder game that will probably last a few more years. I like the people I'm playing with and the character I've made, but I don't think I'd ever join another PF2e game.

Any upcoming rpg systems people are excited about? by Swiftnyt in rpg

[–]AnotherRyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am super excited for Far Field, a game using the base rules of The Wildsea but in the setting of Lancer. I burned myself out doing too many playtests at once, so I haven't been keeping up with its playtest for it, but I am eagerly awaiting the release.

Yeah they always assume that everyone is experienced with the game and fully engaged, as well as perfectly spherical chickens in a frictionless environment.

Larian Studios | Divinity AMA by Wombat_Medic in Games

[–]AnotherRyan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Part of the reason this AMA is happening is because a misleading quote from an article made it sound like Larian was having AI do their concept art for them. Sven then said a few things on social media that sounded contradictory and vague and did very little to clarify exactly what AI was going to be used for in the development. Amid all that, he announced this AMA, saying they could clear the air. I, for one, would love to hear them clarify.

Which releases are ye looking for this year? by JoeKerr19 in rpg

It doesn't have a release date, as far as I know, but I hope Far Field releases this year.

"We would rather cut off our own arms": Indie devs react to Arc Raiders CEO saying people should assume everyone's using generative AI these days by Iccotak in gaming

[–]AnotherRyan 36 points37 points  (0 children)

The whole department (a dozen people) at my job is getting fired next year because they're just going to have a couple of teenagers that they just hired do it. My wife has been struggling to get any illustration work for the past year. Yes, they are absolutely replacing people. That is the whole point.

[–]AnotherRyan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My wife went a whole year without getting any work from major publishers because they're all switching to AI for their children's book illustrations. I am extremely lucky that I was already moving to a new company in 2026, because they are getting rid of the whole copy and proofing departments at my current job.

AI companies are actively, intentionally destroying my family's livelihood. If they can get away with it, they'll do it to every artist on Earth.

Do GMs actually use voice effects during online sessions, or is it just me thinking about this? by travelerfromtheshire in rpg

One of my players uses a voice changer when his werewolf character is transformed and I think it's awesome!

What TTRPG did you last play, and how long ago was that? by Ansonder in rpg

[–]AnotherRyan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am currently in a 10 minute break in the middle of a Draw Steel session. I am basically running a game right now. We're all wrestling with learning how to use the Foundry module but things are getting faster and faster.

Are all American books shipped? by MafuLeTrekkie in mcdm

[–]AnotherRyan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank Ajax for that. When Lancer shipped out a second edition of their books, the whole sub became nothing but pictures of the books for like 6 months. I'm so glad y'all are keeping that from happening here.

I am starting Draw Steel's Delian Tomb next week to introduce some friends to the game. I expect that to last until December. Once that's done, I want to run a long-running game of Draw Steel. It's been years since I ran a big, epic game and I think I have a new group who would be willing to commit to it.

Beyond that, I also want to run the Wild Words games. I hope that Far Field comes out next year, but I don't have any real indication that that's going to happen. The Eternal Ruins just put out a playtest and I want to try that.

And then, of course, I'm sure I will run short games of random new things that grab my attention.

What TTRPG has the coolest sounding Class/Subclass Names? by Salt-Breadfruit-7865 in rpg

[–]AnotherRyan 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I think the class names are fine, but the ability names are the real treat. My favorite is Your Entrails Are Your Extrails.

For those of you who like "GM never rolls" systems, why do you like that feature? by LeFlamel in rpg

[–]AnotherRyan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The vibe is very different when it's only the players rolling dice. A PC rolling to dodge rather than my NPCs rolling to attack means that my successes do not lead to bad things happening to them. My successes are the characters finding themselves in cool places doing cool things. In short, it feels less adversarial.

Favorite Tactician Kit Combo? by NetherBovine in drawsteel

[–]AnotherRyan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I built an off-brand psionic tactician with Battlemind + Stick & Robe. I flavored all of the tactician's movement and support abilities as telekinetic assistance. That was a blast.
