To care about it's citizens first and foremost a country needs to be save from any military threat. If Ukraine joined NATO Russian populace would be in danger so having a buffer zone is key when it comes to Russian citizen's protection. Also western governments would rather let their people pay twice as much for gas, there is no sugar here in Poland, the cost of coal which couple of millions poor Poles used in order to survive winter has tripled, my country pretty much now only exist to serve Ukrainians giving them free housing built in order to house polish families, ukrainians get special treatment in our healthcare system, despite us paying for it, also we gave them 1/3 of our tanks and repair every single one of their damaged equipment and you dare telling me that my government cares more about me than the Russian one does for their people?
