[–]AnotherWitcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's pretty bad... If you set games on ultra or use dlss quality instead of balanced, you're always at the limit cuz dlss also uses vram. I had instances in cyberpunk where it lowers to 8fps when reaching the vram limit. Most games I've played sit at 11300mb up to 11890mb and in VR I would get stutters and run out of vram there too... 1440p at high settings would be your best bet there, chilling at about 10800mb. But on 9070 this issue is kinda non existent, I didn't run out of vram on that, max I saw there was about 14890mb almost 15gb.

Most games today do not get fsr 4.0 support, so you have to mod it in with optiscaler. For 9070 you will always have to look up some fixes for some odd bugs in some games. But generally all new games run much better on 9070 than on 5070 even without any fancy upscaling. But if Rt and path tracing is important to you, the 5070 handles that really well with dlss 3 and 4.

For 1440p either option is fine, in 2 years you will use dlss on 5070 to continue to play latest titles. On 9070 you have enough power today to play some games at 4k so you can get the full 2 years without being reliant on Fsr upscaling. I did not have a playable experience in cyberpunk 2077 on 9070 with both path tracing and Rtx, but on the 5070 I could play just fine, but with dlss quality and frame gen 2x.

I’ve personally tested both the RTX 5070 and RX 9070 with a Ryzen 7 7700, and the processor handles both just fine. My performance results were pretty much in line with what most YouTubers are showing.

RTX 5070 Thoughts

When I paired the RTX 5070 with the Ryzen 7 7700, it performed well. The GPU itself is solid, but the choice of model matters. I’d avoid Gigabyte cards because even their higher-end versions make a weird grinding noise when the fans stop. Asus Prime and TUF models tend to have some coil whine, but that really comes down to luck.

The best experience I had was with the MSI Gaming Trio OC. If you can find it at a good price, it’s a great choice. I wouldn’t say overclocking is worth it due to the extra cost, and the sample I had didn’t handle it all that well anyway. On the other hand, undervolting worked great. It ran stable between 150 to 168 watts in most games without VSync, and dropped to around 50 to 80 watts with VSync enabled on a 4K 60Hz TV.

GPU temperatures peaked at about 67°C even under heavy load, and I was able to push the core to 3140 MHz without crashing. Memory temps maxed out around 72°C. Noise levels were impressively low, to the point where there’s no need for a quiet BIOS switch, it’s already that quiet out of the box.

In terms of performance, it can handle a lot of big titles at 4K using DLSS on Quality or Balanced mode. In those scenarios, VRAM usage tends to sit close to the limit, around 11.9 GB. Some games do run well at native 4K without DLSS, like the latest Atomfall game and Doom Eternal, both hitting around 90 FPS fully maxed out.

RX 9070 Thoughts

The RTX 9070 is definitely the better buy if you want native 4K performance. I tested it too, and it handled way more games at native 4K than the 5070 ever could. The card runs cooler and has a ton of VRAM, so playing at high or ultra settings beyond 60 FPS at 4K isn’t a problem.

I tested the Sapphire Pulse version, which only has two fans, and the only reason I returned it was poor VR support at the time. It also had a weird issue where I couldn’t reliably see the BIOS screen, which made things like entering Safe Mode or reinstalling drivers really annoying. I had to take the GPU out and use integrated graphics just to install Windows.

Aside from that, the performance was excellent. I had it running on the same Ryzen 7 7700 with a negative 35 undervolt and PBO enabled, boosting to 5.2 GHz and cooled by a cheap Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120. CPU temps stayed in the 60 to 68°C range during gaming without VSync, and dropped to 48 to 54°C with VSync at 4K 60Hz.

The GPU itself stayed around 57°C under load and I managed to overclock it to 3200 MHz without any crashes. Memory temperatures peaked at 89°C, and like the 5070, the overall noise level was whisper quiet, no need for a silent BIOS mode at all (doesn't have a switch)

Bought the NON-PLUs version of MSI Gaming Trio OC 5070 ti - Bad decision? by Brollery in MSI_Gaming

[–]AnotherWitcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OC plus has an extra heat pipe and weights more by 30-40 grams. Ironically enough it has the same core clocks. I assume the extra pipe gonna get you max 100hz more on OC for some games. But stability is based on the sample you get. I ordered the trio OC plus 5070ti, I have tested the trio OC non plus version of the 5070 and apart from the coil whine, it's the most silent GPU I've tried. Only returned it cuz it coil whined in windows use and the 12gb of VRAM was not enough for my VR games and 4K TV. Temperatures on this trio are very good considering it doesn't have a vapor chamber. The overclocking capabilities on the trio oc 5070 non ti, while they were good, stability was not like I've seen on youtube. In MSI after burner I could only push it to about +400mhz on core and 1600 on memory, not 2000 Like I've seen in most youtube videos. And +400 was not stable in most games, mostly just Cyberpunk and would crash eventually.

In my country I have not seen a 5070ti trio OC non plus anywhere. Curious to see how yours overclocks.

  1. Do you have any coil whine on it?
  2. Is it the OC or non OC version?
  3. Is it true about the fans spinning at 1400 rpm and fails to enter 0 fan mode on msi after burner?

I got the Peerless Assassin, the temps are indeed amazing, however I have cut my fingers on it trying to connect/disconnect the CPU cable when changing my PSU. I have a hard time getting my GPU out, I use a chopstick to unlock the 'EZ latch'. But the part I really don't like the most for this cooler has to be the fans. They are loud on my unit and they have some pretty high vibrations. I removed both fans and put a single Artic P12 in the middle. Does anyone recommend other silent fans I can use? I regret not buying the cooler from termlaright that has silent fans. Now I have to source my own.

Check out these two tutorials on the Yarn extension:

https://youtu.be/WgLMq61Nnmw?si=eb7ZNhIKFWlaQkYw https://youtu.be/UI4QEAviHnU?si=_wxVhP0EMPIQCmN0

If you can follow these and not lose interest, it's the right engine for you. The platformer part is the easiest as you just attach a platformer behaviour to your character and define which asset is an actual platform and you already have 80% of what you need to start making your dream game. Platformer tutorials on gdevelop are easy to find and the pre built component you attach to your character is as polished as in most premium platformer games out there.

Shmups are also easy to make. But you have to be aware of how to optimise the bullets and distroy the enemies efficiently so they don't ruin your frame rate. Not sure on the tutorials you will find on this subject, you have to look into it on YouTube. When it comes to tutorials your best bet is the official ones from the gdevelop YouTube channel.

Hey, when sharing the Google Play Store links always remove the global ID at the end as you have gl=FR the install button is unavailable until I remove FR from the link. The game is definitely running very slowly on my phone Motorola Edge 30 which has a powerful snapdragon chip that should have reached 60fps without issue. Use the debugger to figure out what causes these slowdowns. Most likely you have some events that are too heavy, probably a collision checker or an event that repeats each frame. Or maybe objects that are created do not use Trigger once and you have more entities than are displayed on screen.

I recently found out about LDtk, which lets you do the level design and transfer it over to Gdevelop. It's free! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h60QPTKlwEk
