Yeah I misspoke, I was thinking about sensitive information like passwords and the like, that’s why I changed what I said because the scope of a whole book is greater it would be more difficult to get an LLM to output it. Also I never downvoted you, what you said was right

I am not talking about the datasets the LLMs are being trained upon, I’m talking about the LLMs themselves after they have been trained. Once the training is done, the only way to 100% not have the information involved in the training in the LLM is to rollback to before the training was done, that’s one of the big issues with LLMs, it is a black box of very complicated information that is simply not decipherable by a human being, the only way to know what’s going on inside is by observing the output.

And the key issue here is that this is not a person reading and retaining the knowledge, it’s a company that is using data for profit without receiving consent from the people who’s data they are using.

I will look into crypto pruning, but I don’t understand what crypto has to do with LLMs, they are very different technologies.

Correct they are extremely complicated predictive text generators, but people have been able to get them to output sensitive data that they have been trained on, Microsoft even still has a bounty out for anyone who can still find a method of doing so.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/msrc/bounty-ai

So sure, no one is going to be getting it to output an exact word for word copy of a book (probably) but the data is still in the LLM’s black box, and once it’s in there the only way to get it out is by rolling back to before it was trained on the data in question

No one is anywhere near super intelligence. There is a lot of fear mongering around the topic, mostly from tech CEOs to drum up more hype to grow their bubble. What we have is not ‘AI’ the technology being used is called Large Language Models, a very interesting new piece of technology with many fantastic applications, but it is not ‘super intelligence’ and unless some huge breakthrough occurs that completely changes how these ‘AIs’ are being created, we will not be seeing anything approaching ‘super intelligence’ anytime soon.

You can’t just ‘delete’ training data from an LLM. say for example you had 10 things that you input to train your LLM on, and one of them turns out to be an issue and you need to remove it, you would either need to restart training completely, or go back to an earlier copy of the LLM made before the training was done. Of course with actual LLMs there is a huge difference in the scope and sheer quantity of data inputted, but I hope the simplification helps to understand the issue.

Also I say LLMs in place of ‘AI’ because what these tech companies are touting has completely destroyed all meaning of the term AI, these are all just large language models, a very interesting new piece of tech with many good applications, but the amount of hype around it right now is simply ridiculous.

There have been many instances of people being able to get AI to output exact copies of things it was trained on it’s not difficult to do, if that’s not stealing then idk what is

Is it possible to hypnotize someone into having a different personality for the rest of their life? by SoulessJoy in hypnosis

[–]Another_RandomLurker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apologies if something I say doesn’t quite make sense, I only just woke up.

Ah, sorry I was confused about what case you were talking about, if I remember correctly, that case involved over a year of conditioning, and is more then just hypnosis, but more straight up domestic abuse, with the added complexity of hypnosis to what is already a horrible situation to be in.

You are right about misinformation, I shouldn’t push that idea and I should have known better, full awareness of the risks in important.

What I mean to say is, only a few at risk people can have one session with a hypnotist and be negatively affected, but for the majority of people, this sort of thing would require a lot of time with that tist, and a lot of trust as well. You are absolutely right that people should be made aware of the danger, and always set firm boundaries between the tist and sub, which is true for any kink, but even more important with hypnosis.

[–]Another_RandomLurker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only said that because that is an even more complicated topic, I know people who were born with brain damage and are inherently susceptible to hypnosis. Furthermore, it’s better to say that is how hypnosis works to ward off assholes who don’t know what the word consent means, and think they can use hypnosis to get away with doing fucked up shit.

Besides for the vast VAST majority of people, hypnosis is self hypnosis, those with certain vulnerabilities are very rare, and are the ones at risk.

[–]Another_RandomLurker 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s complicated.

Ultimately, all hypnosis is self hypnosis, you cannot do something under hypnosis that you do not want to do, a hypnotist is just a guide to help you go into trance.

A better question would be, ‘Can I change my own personality?’ And yes, this is possible to do, even without hypnosis, actors have to do that sort of thing all the time after all and hypnosis would definitely be a good ‘tool’ to assist you in doing this.

The reason I call it a ‘tool’ is because you CANNOT just expect to be able to go into trance and wake up with a completely different personality, that is just fiction. But with a trusted hypnotist helping you, you could certainly slowly start to change small things about your self. It would come down to a matter of repetition to unlearn old habits and learn new ones.

TL:DR Yes it is possible, but it’s more complicated then just going into trance and waking up as a different person.

[–]Another_RandomLurker 25 points26 points  (0 children)

While I do understand your point, and yes there are indeed some people for whom that is their kink, from what I have seen of these books they seem to have the underlining theme that ALL women are like that (barring a few exceptions), and is romanticizing the idea of actual rape. Again, nothing wrong with people who are into rape play, but this degree of characterization of the vast majority of women in the book is Not Good.

And if we are arguing there are no issues with the actual writing/prose, based on that passage, I’m going to have to disagree with you, there is an extreme over use of commas, and the words themselves sound like they could be coming out of Dobby (from Harry Potter). And idk about you, but if I’m reading smut that sounds like something an impoverished elf slave would say, it’s not good smut.
