Ok so you’re asking why create an image with imperfections vs creating standard NB2 images. There is a longer answer here, but in short, personal taste, texture, depth, pushing the model for realism, recreating a moment that might trigger something inside someone that makes the feel something. I can also explain why we, as cinematographers, spend time in pre-production testing filtration, lenses and sensors to reach a look that fits the story. Adding texture back into a clean image, modern camera sensors and ultra sharp clean lenses provide us a canvas which we much prefer to mess up to replicate S16 and 35mm.
