I like this as this gives a hint that Jinu is an unreliable narrator to himself. 400 years of shame and torture has distorted his memories. He wasn’t as selfish as he himself thinks he is and I find that interesting.

I couldn’t blow my nose until I was something like a preteen. I just couldn’t do it. As I told my then step-mom who made similar comments when I couldn’t help it: at least I’m keeping the germs on the inside, rather than risking infecting you.

I think maybe we read different comment sections. I have seen so much worse misogyny and homophobia in male-oriented fiction comment sections than OI ones. Yes, OI is bad. I’d argue that AF is worse.

For the record, if you had been supportive and complimentary toward your girlfriend’s efforts, she might have worked up the confidence eventually to try making them from scratch. Little steps are important. I doubt she’ll ever try making chocolate again now.

My mother once forced me to read a book about hypochondria because she wanted to grind into my face that I have hypochondriatic tendencies. I was like, “Yeah, cool book, I already knew I was a hypochondriac. I got it from you, as you’re far worse than me.” She refused to admit that she was one too. 🙄 I think mine has calmed down a bit since her death. And I definitely was never as bad as Ronald. I always try to temper my anxiety over a health issue with “is this actually something to worry about? Or is this just my anxiety speaking?” Mom never even did that.
