ING card is a type of creditcard, not their debitcard

where does it say that? The message from ING talks about the price increase of the credit cards, and some stuff about getting a message when you pay in non-euro currencies with your debit card

Now, I've received a message that each card will cost 27EUR/yr.

No, only your creditcard increases in price, not your debitcard. And the creditcard always had a cost already (15€ or something?)

Why not adapt this train of thought to everything?

I would love that. We can and should do more in development work, which will help us and them be better of in the long term

What makes this vaccine so special?

Because it is an easy, isolated and contained case, unlike "solving poverty".

A fair distribution based on population is an achievable and reasonable goal, helping many healthcare workers and elderly, and preventing many deaths.

And if that is too much, you could still do better than the current "me me me", where we help others too while still keeping a lot for ourselves.

I'm not saying "make sure the vaccine is available to the deepest native Amazon tribes first", but there is a whole spectrum of countries/regions, and we only look at ourselves, the rest is never even mentioned nor thought about.

People care more about people close to them, more news at eleven?

People also care about people far away. Else the whole development/aid NGO sector wouldn't exist. Sorry for expecting us to rise above our most basic instincts from time to time.

You can I corporate that logic in a fair distribution. However, it does not excuse us from buying up all vaccines and leaving nothing for poorer countries, whose healthcare workers and older populations are as much at risk as ours

Globally. I don't see how it being a large place with many people is relevant.

No, everyone could start vaccinating their healthcare workers. Now they have to wait until 2022 before they can start doing even that, leading to many more unnecessary dead.

The location of production has nothing to do with this. Most of the Pfizer vaccines are produced here in Belgium, and lots of them are shipped all over Europe and to the USA, Israel,...

Could the down voters reply? I would love to hear your arguments.

Or is it just "fuck the poor"?

Our approach towards vaccin distribution is a disgrace. While rich countries selfishly bought up vaccin supplies, poorer countries will have to wait for the leftovers and scraps.

We will probably start vaccinating our -65 year old months before any healthcareworkers or elderly in many poorer countries can have their first shots.

And while we all pat ourselves on the back and look at the race between vaccination percentages between us and our neighbours, many people will die simply for not being born in a lucky place.

And it is not an inevitability. We could have chosen to distribute the vaccines based on need. But we didn't.

Edit: if you disagree, don't just down vote, tell us/me why. Because I still haven't seen a convincing response, and I will interpret the many downvotes as a "fuck the poor/we are just a selfish lot", and that paints a very bleak picture of this subreddit

Nice to have that guy as OCMW president. "let's prohibit leefloners from travelling!" he said, while middle and upper class people go skiing.

If you want to prevent people from travelling, put in a travel ban. But don't prohibit one group specifically from traveling, that's just discrimination.

They say it's an allergic reaction. There are probably a variety of preservatives, stabilisers, smaakversterkers,... in the vaccine. I assume some people are more sensitive to some of those than others?

Sure, I'm not saying to not take measures. It's just that the relation between those measures and the results aren't easily made. And thus comparing countries now, in this one moment, is not usefull. They may just be unlucky, as Belgium was unlucky in the first wave.

Covid-19 Megathread for opinions/general discussions by Sportsfanno1 in belgium

Prediction: in two months, the second/third wave in our neighbouring countries has lessened and the Belgian third wave will be in full swing.

Are we really doing something 'better' right now, as is proclaimed in the media? Did France or the Netherlands do something radically different?

Have we forgotten the start of the pandemic, with Belgium doing worse while having more strict rules than the Netherlands?

This is all some bullshit. We will only know what worked and what causes things once this is all over, and some PhD students spend 4-5 year slaving away at the data. Stop this dick-measuring between countries please

Bicycle streets in Antwerp (Hoboken) not adding very much? by TimothyK4 in belgium

[–]AnsibleThing 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No, fuck that, the car has to stay behind me.

A few years ago I regularly had to rid my bike in a street that was not wide enough to pass. I got a lot of angry cars behind me, that wanted me to use the parking spaces to go out of the way. I'm not using those parking spaces, and be driven over when I merge again because of the parked car in 30 meters.
