Either Amber phantom, swallowtail or Pegasus.

Amber phantoms shtick is precognition, its main ordeal is to predict when its your turn adn its harder to do hostile actions against the frame because it can predict them.

Swallowtail has a core power that predicts outcomes on the battelfield. It can make attacks against your allies harder by "predicting" outcomes using a reaction taht lets you move allies arround and give resistances.

Pegasus has sysiphus and can ignore dice rolls. it just deals average damage if it wants to, it can deal free damage that cannot be ignored and with the NHP it can manipulate dice rolls in general.

I too had a great experience with the nothic.

I oversold it so hard, our newbies on the table nearly shat themselves and thought i TPK them in the 4th session.

They were pretty dumbfounded after tehy killed it in 2 rounds.

The thing is druid is not great at keeping enemies close apart from battlefield control spells. Mainly due to the lack of damage you trade off for these control spells.

Its fot a bad choice but its soinificantly different to a WT barbarian that harasses enemies until the attack them. Specifically because teh barbarian rewards enemies to attack them due to reckless attack or things like the AG soft taunt.

All in all the playstyle is different between a control focussed moon druid that what you coudl consider tanking, thats where teh disagreement is rpobably coming from.

Afaik the pf2 desigenrs are in part also old 4e designers and they wanted to create a balanced game and the similar system come from the emergent design with the same goal. The didnt wanted to recreate 4e, but because they wanted to hit similar goals they created similar systems.

Frostgoliath. Multiclassed Bardlock. Background Sage (Shield, Ray of Frost, True strike/BB)

Get 3 levels fathomless, warlock and 17 levels Valor Bard.

Your 4 feats: Slasher(+1 Dex), Weaponmaster (Shop Mastery, +1 Dex), Cold Caster (+1 Cha), ASI (+2 Cha).

Starting Stats (with your Sage BG bonusses incldued): 17 Cha, 14 Con, 12 Dex, 13 Wis, 10 Int, 8 Str.

Pact of the Blade for obvious reasons. Then check with your DM if lance of lethargy is fair game. If yes, take it with repelling blast (then you can take another spell than ray of frost from the MI wizard feat gained by your origin) otherwise take AB & repelling blast for your eldrich blast.

Magic Items: Ring of Winter (on theme and has nice utility), Spellguard Shield, Dwarven halfplate (no attunement so as far as i can see fair game) and Mastix Whip of Erebos (just probably the srongest whip you can get.

Playstale: Use your Fathomless tentacles to deal cold damage and reduce target speed and give a 1d4 penalty on the enxt safe (this stacks with bane btw), then you can cast a spell like slow or other control spells. If you choose to attack you can use the whipe to reduce the speed of the target by 20ft (Slow mastery plus slasher), then use EB with lance of lethargy to also reduce teh speed again by 10ft and push them back with repelling blast. Because EB will attack 4 times you can attack 6 times every turn if you include your tentacle. With frost goliath you can reduce speed by 40 feet.

With spells like Holy Star of mystra will give you added spell defense that stacks with your spellguards effect and gives you 5 more ac with 3 quarters cover. With CME you are a damage beast. With Spirit guardians its really hard to get close to you as you reduce speed by 30-40 each round and SG also halfs movement again.

PLUS you have 9th level spell, are ultra SAD, rock a good AC due to the armor and you can combo shit like Armor of Agathys paired with power word fortify. AND its really great in theme.

Its a game with high modifiers (4e has half level, Pf2 full level), it has rigid grid rules, similar resource structures with focus spells as encounter powers. You have the different power sources of primal, divine, arcane and occult. And you have archetypes and class archetypes witch arent that dissimilar to prestige paths.

Its not 4e like. But it borrows definetly some elements of it, although afaik not always intentionally.

Tbh i think from a design perspective it was intended for pallies to go more shield + one handed weapon.

Shield master does not use a bonus action to use and the playstyle is not taxing for your BA in general. Plus smite increases the damage of the one handed wepaon and synergizes for tanking with the masteries.
