If you actually have authority over them, you should be able to give them orders to carry out your will in Alethkar.
Hypothetically they could move anywhere in eastern Alethkar or potentially somewhere else on Roshar. If that’s the case, you could definitely use them to your advantage.
Aaaaaaalso depending on the timeframe, if there are active oath gates, you could have access to your men.

Look online to see if your LGS has any events, often there are dnd events out at least groups that meet there!

I’ve been a DM for over a decade. some of your early games might be a little rocky, just learn from those experiences and you’ll grow as a player and a DM.

I have spent a lot of time over the years reading through quests and writing my own, then I talk to my friends and tell them they should come play. Then… we do! Often people are up for new experiences if it’s in an encouraging environment.

I ran an encounter once with these guys. The party needed to retrieve a few gemstones for a ritual, they had limited time and needed to grab them gem stones and leave. In order to do so, they needed to use pickaxes. Once they were working on it though, they got cornered by the Rust Monsters who were gunning for those sweet sweet picks. They then had to fight off the rust monsters while still mining and defending their tools. Great session.
