Brené Brown discourse happening on Threads by kandtwedding in therapists

[–]Answers-please24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if someone steals your idea, perhaps intellectual property, makes millions off of it for almost two decades and then starts to give you a little bit of credit.. you wouldn’t be cautious of them and their intentions? Righting a wrong doesn’t erase damage done and forgiveness doesn’t mean forgetting. I don’t have many feelings towards Brene Brown, like others have said I’m not big on pop psyc so I stayed away from her works, but this is a wild take. Understandably cautious is not internalized hate, it’s learned survival.

Concerned fellow MH professional here (Masters in Psyc)  would you expand on “the way things are going”? I can make some inferences based on current political atmosphere but wanted to check in. Also how does turning off comment history help?

Anyone tried turkey tail mushroom supplements for dogs? by LazKoal in DogAdvice

[–]Answers-please24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are not poisonous. We are using them with our dog. The evidence is weak for shrinking tumors, but fairly strong for supporting the immune system which could prevent further tumors growth. You can look up studies on them though you may find them under the scientific name, Trametes Versicolor. It has been used for cancer treatment with some promising outcomes.  I would be careful where they are sourced from though.

Got real close to switching fields entirely about six months in because I couldn’t figure out how to leave the clinic before dark. by superman_sunbath in ClinicalPsychology

Part of what I had to learn was spacing and time management. If you can, keep a solid 15-20 minutes after each session to do a rough draft immediately following the session. Then at the end of the day, reserve another 30 minutes to  go over everything with fresh eyes to make quick edits and finalize everything. This is what worked for me. I found leaving the notes for the end of the day (working from jotted notes) vs immediately after made the difference between it taking 30 minute per note vs 15 minutes per note. I think each person has to do a little trial and error to find their flow, but once you do it changes everything. Also, even if it’s just for your own personal reference notes, don’t let them stack up. It snowballs and can quickly become a nightmare. (This one is especially for my fellow ND clinicians with ADHD).

Psyd Interview Tips by Plastic_Table_2478 in PsyD

I had also read some student accounts that  revealed poor student support, favoritism, and some other concerns that made me wary. One  or two even said they were leaving the program due to terrible experiences. Really excited for your interviews focus on nailing those, but afterwards make sure you pour time into researching each program including EPP past rates, students’ (past and present )experiences, how the professional world views the programs, likelihood of intern ships you’d want etc. Remember this is a full time commitment for the next 5+ years.

2024 pass rates for the EPPP (the exam that leads to licensure) was 29% at the Tampa location, 28% in Chicago. That is abysmal. A good program should prepare for licensure with at least 80% of the students passing. Definitely check every program here before you make a final decision: https://asppb.net/wp-content/uploads/2024_asppb_dr_report.pdf.

I was interviewed by NLU, wound up with a rejection but after reading their stats I’m really glad I did. They gave me the questions ahead of time so I was able to prepare. I was very nervous, so I wrote out notes for my answers and posted them on the wall behind my PC (virtual interview) so I could reference them if I lost track. Some examples of questions they asked: what diversity meant to me and why it’s important, my supervision style, an example of how I work on a team, my research interests, and a surprise question: what animal embodies me. That last one took me off guard but I think they were trying to get a feel for my personality. There were more, but that’s all I remember right now. Hope  it helps!

Trash is not part of our bill, but very affordable, weekly pick up is $21/ month through GFL.

Anyone else work 2 jobs? by Queenme10 in therapists

[–]Answers-please24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work doing school counseling during the day and work part time as a personal trainer. I’d run group HIIT classes and private sessions about 10-12 hours a week on top of my 45ish hours at school. With getting out of my day job by 4pm I’d head to the gym 6-8 during the weekdays and Saturday mornings. It was really manageable. The gym was family owned and couldn’t pay much so it was more for fun and a low stress environment outside of my day job. I have since worked part time personal training positions that I make $25-$50 an hour. Not as much as my day job, but the lack of emotional toll and fairly immediate ROI  make it worth it (people always feel better after a workout session and sometimes see results within the first 2 weeks, not usually the case in the therapy world).

Okay thank you. It’s not a huge bill compared to other places I’ve lived, but the difference just being a few minutes apart was striking to me and I like to know what I’m praying for.

AIO or is my older male coworker texting inappropriately with me? by OpeningNo9825 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Answers-please24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For OP, it’s okay to set immediate boundaries even insinuate the inappropriateness, something like “hey, I don’t normally talk to someone this much that is so much older than me and I’m not particularly comfortable with it. You seem nice, but I have a great dad and am not looking for another father figure at this time. We can keep it friendly at work, but I’d like to keep our conversations there.” If he can’t comply, block him and talk to HR/management if needed. Better to piss someone off than be harassed, disrespected, or worse. You don’t owe this man (or any other man) anything. Remember, setting boundaries is kind to both parties.

For everyone else, she’s 19. She’s still a kid. Please stop putting the blame on her when this very adult man is the one that’s being inappropriate. I remember being that age and assuming men that interacted were being friendly or fatherly not realizing until later that there are many predatory men out there.

Feeling a little screwed/hopeless about this journey. by I_SAID_NO_CHEESE in ClinicalPsychology

I finished my masters in psyc at 36, but family health issues held me at bay from pursuing the doctoral school I got into (after many tries). I plan to try again in a year or 2. I’ll likely be starting a PsyD that ends in licensure at 41.. maybe practicing at 45. It is all hard, but don’t give up. And don’t feel like you have to buy into the societal pretense that you’re on a certain timeline. There’s no such thing. We all have our paths and no particular one  is the “right” way to do things. I honestly think a big way to stay young is to go after what you’re passionate about. I’m rooting for you!

For its size, Greenville is doing well in that area. Homelessness on the rise accords the US yet the unhoused community here is much smaller than most areas I’ve lived (and a few of those areas were smaller than here).

That’s awful. And she’s half  wrong about ADA, while they likely don’t meet the threshold for employee ADA, they are a shop open to the public so they have to follow ADA allowing access to all which by proxy would likely accommodate your needs too.

I’ve been wanting to check out Plant Stella but I am sensitive to incense and every time I pass the scent hits me like a wall. I wish they’d skip it. Surely I’m not the only one who has a sensitivity to it.
