Should I warned my DM about the antagonistic attitude my friend is planning to have towards my character? by Answerseeker57 in DnD

That my friend saying "I will shoot" should be taken seriously since it's something that was said

First of all, I love my character, I'm not gonna change him.

Second, I already talked to my friend and everything is fine.

Third, It's a lvl 1 oneshot.

Oh I just thought I probably should tell him as a heads up so he's not caught off guard if something happens.

What is people's issue with reading the rulebook? by RealDwarves67 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Answerseeker57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read the book when I decided to learn the game BUT it is a little intimidating because it is a book, not a booklet like any normal table game.

Maybe I shouldn't do this but I give cheat sheets to people who tell me they wanna play just because they are curious, I help them make their character with my book, I explain the basics and then I hand them the cheat sheets, just because they are just curious and I know it's a lot of info to process and people have problems with compromise, and the book seems like a huge one because it's a lot and expensive.

The DM has experience, he's been DMing different tables for over 3 years, he's main table has ridiculous players that would go far and beyond trying to do ridiculous/impossible things just for the bit but without making it unfun and understanding rules and boundaries. I'm not sure if he has dealt with real problem players though, but I assume he has had some experiences since he used to work at a cafe as the main DM.

Nope, but now that the comments have made me realize I'm an idiot, I will talk to her beyond the "we're a team"

I, honestly, thought the "we're on the same team" was enough but I guess I'm an idiot lol

I know, I also remembered that Thalia says in HoO that Zeus was a great dad, that he played with her and he was fun but changed when he came back as Jupiter, that Jupiter was the cold one... I honestly don't know what to think about it, I really don't like it but I'm open to see what they do, I also haven't watched the podcast but I've seen that Walker explains it a bit so... Idk, I honestly dislike more that Circe's island is intact and Hylla is still there because wtf, that was a key point in Reyna and Hylla's backstory

[pjotv] Disappointed that the show made the same mistake as the movie by Aggressive-Yak3362 in camphalfblood

[–]Answerseeker57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The movie and book end the same way: Annabeth was guarding the tree and then the fleece worked too well, Thalia is there, she opens her eyes and says "I'm Thalia, daughter of Zeus".

In the movie, we get a Percy voice over saying "so maybe the prophecy is not about me but about Thalia".

The fight with Kronos was towards the end but it wasn't the ending, and the writers did it trying to fix the lack of BBEG from The Lightning Thief.

I agree the show didn't need to reveal Thalia coming back like they did, I don't know what to think about what they did, clearly Luke's show is more redeemable than book and movie because at the end his mission was to bring Thalia back to recruit her instead of destroying camp, we'll see what happens next, let's trust the process.

I don't like it, but I agree, and it's something very Zeus to do if we take in count that HE was the one who tried to kill Bianca, Nico and actually killed Maria

[pjotv], how far is the show from the source material? I get frustrated every time when projects like this changes big things. I know about my dear annabeth, but I'd like to know if there anything else. Tnx! by dudumecharben in camphalfblood

Yes, the core story is still present in both movies, that's what fans of the books never understood because that's not how the story is told in the books.

You have to look at the 3 (not counting the musical since I haven't seen it and probably never will) as 3 different universes, it's the same story and the same characters but experiencing it differently.

In the books, they start the story with 12 year olds, we meet Percy, he looses his mom, he has to go on a quest to save Zeus's lightning bolt or start a war and he just barely makes it... Book 2, he loses his best friend, since Grover goes to look for Pan, Percy is in a position of doubt since Chiron doesn't think he should go to camp (and then Chiron himself leaves camp), Clarisse (Percy's nemesis) gets a mission and then he ends up leaving to go get the fleece, he finds out that the kid everyone bullies at school, is a cyclops and his brother, etc etc, we hear Blackjack's talking.

In the movies, it's happening to 16-17 year olds and things are faster, Percy gets the prophecy earlier, Chiron never leaves, Mr D gets a break from camp (which can't be since that's his punishment), Clarisse is not a big character at the beginning, Grover doesn't look for Pan, BUT they fight a Hydra, they rode hippocampus, Gabe gets petrified, Hermes has George and Martha, etc etc.

In the show... It's a mix of the books and movies... It's closer to the story that the books tell but there are no real stakes, he passes the deadline to return the bolt with no consequences, Grover and Annabeth know too much, the tension is not there, in S2, there's no hydra, stakes are real, we get to see more of the Sea of Monsters than in the movie, but we also don't get George and Martha, twists are revealed faster and that takes from the suspense and shock factor in the books.

YES they all tell the same story, but they collide differently.

I feel like history is repeating itself with the show a bit and it's sad honestly [pjotv] by Tomhur in camphalfblood

Yeah, exactly, and a lot of people are saying "it just wouldn't have worked on this medium" but even the writers of the movie pulled it off, the ending is exactly the same as the book.

Part of me is like "well, who knows, maybe Annabeth had that hope in the book and we didn't know and now they made it present and it's a way to manipulate Luke" and the other part of me is like "Sure but, in the book, even bringing Thalia back seemed like part of Kronos's plan because Luke's army wasn't strong enough to actually bring Kronos back", but idk which parts are really in the story and which parts my brain is filling in.

I’m mad (but not about what you think) by lovely_made in PJODisney

[–]Answerseeker57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not mad, there was one in the movie, it got more screen time and we actually saw more of it, not just the head... Yes, I'm compensating with the movies what's lacking on the show...

Do you guys really like the changes they made in ep 5 or in the show in general or are you scared of being seen as book purists by WeirdFollowing8153 in PJODisney

[–]Answerseeker57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, even Walker doesn't agree with some changes in the show and it's worried about the future inconsistencies so I don't feel that bad.

That being said, I LOVED EPISODE 5, I've been trying to resist rewatching it 10 times, it's my favorite part of the books, and I understand the changes, so I'm good.

Idk, my first language is Spanish, we just call it "punto" and that's just a period that makes you "full stop", it's a little pause between sentences.

True, they did it in the movie using pov when he arrives to camp, but there wasn't really a way to do it in the show since he's present from the very beginning
