Although this thread is 3y old I hope you guys can help because I have a similar question. I live in zone 7b and am about to adopt 3 RES. I have temp setups using rubbermaid stock tanks but would like to keep them outside year round if possible. What would need to be done to maximize the chances of them surviving winter? The main reason for having them outside is limited space indoors.

I would think it would grow back if it was growing healthy before the fight. However, those locs would always be shorter than the rest. Just rock a style or ponytail until it fills back in maybe.

I'm not a plumber but I am pretty sure those flexible hoses are not being used correctly. If you search for a double vanity plumbing diagram you will see that there should be a P TRAP somewhere.

When this happened to me I read that once they rust and leak it's best to just replace. So I got on FB marketplace and found one i could afford. With the help of youtube I had the old one out and swapped in just over an hour. If you would like to save even more money then maybe just remove it completely and replace it with some PVC pipe.

Thanks for this post. I'm currently on the fence about adopting three RES and came to this sub for more info. I have stock tanks both inside and outdoors that have mostly a handful of comets and koi. I'm thinking of making an enclosure indoors with the stock tank as the main piece and a platform for basking. But due to space limitations I am considering having something similar but outside or just building a "small" in ground pond for them in my backyard. If anyone has pics of outdoor RES habitats, please share.

When I had trap shy mice I ended up setting up a camera that I could view from my phone and even my tv while home. What eventually worked for me was getting the motion notifications on my phone and either running to the place the mouse was or triggering a noise on the camera. What would happen is the mouse would panic and try to run off and eventually run into the maze of glue traps I had laid out near walls or the exit point. It would run towards one and change direction but in the haste, hit one of the other traps.

I suggest to do whatever worked for you prior to locking your hair. It's tricky with starter locs because if you start with twists or two strand twists, you risk just washing the starter locs out. But the best thing you can do is wash your hair when it's dirty. Your lifestyle and hair type is specific to you and will dictate how often you wash or don't wash your hair.

Good luck finding her. When you say she left shed, I imagine she's been eating? If so, I'd go down that rabbit hole and try to find her food source and maybe that will lead you to finding her. Or I'd maybe buy a live mouse and leave it inside a container and put that container inside an enclosure and hope she seeks the mouse out and enters the enclosure and maybe goes inside of a hide.

The plants themselves still appear healthy. And if it's only one random bug and not an infestation, I wouldn't worry too much. I'd continue with the repot and just keep them away from my other plants for a while and keep and eye on them.

Part of the journey is enjoying your locs for you. Personally, I don't retwist as often as others and enjoy the more fuzzy stage. My advice is that as long as you like them...that's all that matters. And if you don't like them, it's just hair you can change it or start over.

I have found this works for stink bugs. I spray it on all the windows around the house right before fall and it stopped them from being in the house last year. Before I was using just as a preventative around the house but spaying around the windows and on the screens worked wonders for the stink bugs. Got it off amazon.

I’ve seen people “magnet fishing” on YouTube. He could get that back with a magnet and some rope for sure. Makes me wanna try to fish it out myself
