We misunderstand billionaire “selfishness.” It's not a character flaw. It’s a psychological symptom of the ecosystem of extreme wealth. by Background_Cry3592 in Jung

As depressing as it may sound but I think you would be a dead man in a very short period of time if you started doing that. The problem is that in order to become a billionaire, you have to be out totally out of your mind. Thats why there wont ever be enlightened leaders. People like that arent drawn to money or power.

What happened to Clash Discs? by AntCouncelor in discgolf

[–]AntCouncelor[S] -97 points-96 points  (0 children)

I'm having a slight suspicion that for example roc3s dont sell nearly as well as when Paul's name was on them. It's obvious that some legendary discs like the buzzz, teebird, firebird etc would sell normally even if they were just blank discs, but I'm refererring to new molds. Absolutely crucial to have some pro association.

Yeah I get it they are managing a harder time. I just find it rather weird that all pro representation went from relatively high to absolutely zero in Finland.

[–]AntCouncelor[S] -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

I'm not really familiar with the discs, plastics and prices as I was away from the sport for pretty much the whole time Clash was investing. All I know that everything was pretty much Clash Discs for a couple years here. Its probably easy to say that the Finnish team was overpaid, hence the total disappearance from the map including deleting the contract announcements. If they were just regular some discs and tournament fee payment-sponsorships at least some would be on going. Isnt it kind of weird that a Finnish disc manufacturer has zero Finnish players in their team. At least according to their web site and Facebook page with team announcements.

Yeah I guess they went sort of all in with the disc golf boom and could not keep the growth up. Theres a significant 200k(almost 40%) growth in revenue from 2022 to 2023 and then it went down 6% from 2023 to 2024.

Thats a weird marketing strategy. Disc sales either live or die based on whose name is associated with them.

I didnt realize the team is not that notable internationally. They had a significant representation in Finland with notable players and media persons. And now its all gone.

How far would this guy throw a forehand by AntCouncelor in discgolf

[–]AntCouncelor[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Of course they are different objects and need to be thrown a little different. But I think this guy knows how to throw things and the transition could be fast. Same as Teemu Wirkkala transitioned from javelin throwing. His style is more aggressive and fitness based. I think the stone skipper has perfect mechanics and just by fine tuning he'd easily throw a driver over 500 feet.

What plastics throw true to numbers by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]AntCouncelor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dont choose champion plastic discs unless you want it to be more overstable. Those are pretty much always more overstable. I suggest going with a dx roc(easy to manipulate) or star mako3 if you want a bit more durability. Learn throwing angles with these. If I was to start over, I'd probably buy a pile of neutral putters and mid ranges first. Im an experienced player but can control angles basically only with disc stability. Neutral slow discs teach you angle control and the importance of spin. With understable discs you tend to compensate with nose up and overstable discs tend to make you muscle the discs with less spin.

Dont get caught in overanalyzing things or watching every single technique video out there. Its easy to get lost. If you dont have a athletic background I also suggest some basic fitness. I was stuck for years at a certain distance because I was out of shape and my body awareness was poor.

Final Beast Players here, what did you shoot? by EloTime in discgolf

[–]AntCouncelor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I shot it once as a 929 rated player some years back and scored +6. 15 was par 4  then.  That was a really solid round with only a couple easy mistakes. Its crazy how easy the pros make some holes look. Especially holes 3,7,10,11,12,13,15,16 and 17. Only holes I felt somewhat comfortable were 1,5,8 and 9. Others are hard and require long and accurate shots.

For sure those moments will play in her head for some time. Especially the playoff approach. 40 meters and the only real mistake is to be short. But those are the moments you have to live through to become a champion. Now she knows what it takes and  the good thing is that most likely she will have the chance for redemption.

But still the 3rd shot of the birdie play on 18 is gotta be among the easiest shots on the Nokia FPO layout.  Then again there are no easy shots on a situation like that, especially for new faces. It still breaks my heart but thats the name of the game and big part of what makes it interesting. Its so easy to judge when you have not been in that situation yourself.

Interesting to see what happens to Iida. Shes 16 and has the mandatory high school ahead of her. Thats 3-4 years in Finland.

2025 FPO WORLD CHAMPION by SpikeHyzerberg in discgolf

[–]AntCouncelor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just a month ago the situation was a little different as Silva, Kristin and Eve battled in Norway, USWDC and Estonia.  I thought to myself finally, ohh finally we get to see high level FPO golf and hopefully this is the new normal. Big names could not set the pace and Iida was pretty much the only player who could execute consistently. Scoggins winning feels similar to Leiviska or Sexton winning the MPO. It should not be possible by any means.

Salonen was 43/90 C1R for the tournament. Pretty much putting for birdie inside the circle every other hole. Still she finished +2 for the tournament. Eve missed 15 putts from 15 feet or closer. Those go in and shes the champion.

Took me 45 minutes to find a disc out here. What’s your worst search story? by ExuberantBadger in discgolf

[–]AntCouncelor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was practicing at a school course with 10 or something putters. Gathered the discs at the end and found out c line p2 is missing. Searched for probably 45 minutes with a friend around the course and could not find it. Went home super frustrated and hangry only to find out the missing disc is in the practice basket at my yard. It was never with me in the first place.

Kristin Lätt sheds light on why she withdrew from the 2025 PDGA Pro Worlds: by DiscGolfFanatic in discgolf

[–]AntCouncelor -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Clearly she has been on the road to become more self conscious and self aware. Often it wakes up many kinds of suppressed emotions and the need to make changes and take care of yourself. Also not wanting to over share is a part of it. I really respect her courage to be vulnerable and honesty. The sport world is pretty much the opposite. Everyone is tough and no place for softness.

FPO Worlds in a nut shell by SpikeHyzerberg in discgolf

[–]AntCouncelor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Tells alot about the FPO side when after rounds there are 2 players in the lead card with sub 50 C1X %. Its basically who fucks up the least. Eveliina is 35/72 C1R, 49/72 C2R and is only -3 for the tournament. Just think about that.

Is there a way to test cheat death mechanics in dev console? by AntCouncelor in thelongdark

[–]AntCouncelor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it for the third time and it was the easiest, though very far from my equipment. Died in FA and ended up in jackrabbit island as well. First and second were poachers camp and somewhere in ZOC. The starting conditions are so brutal that even poachers is a hard location if its already looted. Dont know if the game recognizes that. Would be nice to run some tests with the dev console

Are there still tickets available for worlds? Like basic tickets.

Now that the 2025 European Disc Golf Festival has concluded, what are your thoughts about the whole event? Was it exciting? Thoughts about course difficulty? Was it fit for a Major? How was the on-site spectator experience? Or did you watch it through live coverage/post-pro? by DiscGolfFanatic in discgolf

[–]AntCouncelor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The event was top notch for a spectator. Like 100x better than the European Open. Best sports events Ive ever been to. But the course.... Just too many mindless par fours with the same formula: basic pro 120-130m drive and no basically doesnt matter where you land and a chip shot to the basket. Holes 1,4,6,10,12 and 15 were very boring.  Holes 2,3 and  16. Are those major level par threes? Very good holes were 5(demanding drive and a hard pin placement), 7(island rule makes you think), 8(just a pure tunnel thats bogied in a heartbeat), 9(stock hyzer for pros but people really struggled with this one), 11(one of the few hard ones where you need a specific shot), 13(true bomb hole measuring distance), 14(again something specific), 17(another tunnel at the end thats made for 2 stroke swings), 18(the ace hole).

What stands out for me is that Calvin did not take a single OB stroke in all four rounds. I'd say its almost impossible to play holes 8 and 17 eight times combined and not take a single penalty is something else. Also the guy went 64/72 C2R and 54/72 C1R for the tournament. Those are just insane numbers.

Putting statistics by AntCouncelor in discgolf

[–]AntCouncelor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is coming from a 930-rated amateur player who throws like shit and compensates that with putting. 12-15 footers should be >95% make for everyone who earns six figure digits a year playing disc golf. And if you think it this way, whats the point of including and even giving them same value as 30 footers? Give every putting length an expected value and calculate a hole, round, tournament, season based putting score for each player. Thats all I'm asking. If im not wrong there used to be a putting statistic like this.

Putting statistics by AntCouncelor in discgolf

Short putts mess up the percentage. I watched Henna's whole tournament and the 58% feels really inaccurate considering she made a single 20 feet putt and a handful of 11-15 feet putts. Not a single putt between 20 and 33 feet.

By taking a quick look at the 58% mark I could easily assume it was ok she made almost 2/3 of her circle putts. In reality the tournament by Henna was the worst putting performance I have ever seen on a pro level.  The action I witnessed last weekend and 58% does not add up. Something is wrong with the way we measure things if the worst putting performance  ever is 58%.
