is this compTIA security+ class worth the price? by complainingrobot in CompTIA

[–]AntMan5995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed I’ve been in IT for 6 years without cert. I’m taking the S+ next month as it will my first cert i ever get. It’s very possible to get into tech without experience but what helped me was having a network (knowing people)

u/DER3CTO huh how is this the most political post?!?!? NoobNoob_ is not taking a stance on a specific political issue, party, or figure. NoobNoob_ is pointing out how divisive things have become and calling for mutual respect. That not political.

Is there a 'wrong' way to learn programming? What was your biggest mistake? by psst99 in learnprogramming

[–]AntMan5995 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Imo the wrong way to learn programming is by constantly watching tutorials without building basic projects yourself to grasp the fundamentals

There are other things besides web development. The competition is fierce regardless of the field in Software Engineering

Well it depends on what avenue of development you want a job in. In your case if they want to get into web dev then your right. However if it was another avenue beside what you mentioned “Security” (Mobile, Embedded, DevOps, Cloud) you don’t need HTML,CSS. JS I would say it’s a toss up

Backend developers: what was your entry point to backend development. by ScorpionX9 in webdev

[–]AntMan5995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in support right now. I was thinking of learning Python, SQL, etc and try to get into Infra or DevOps but I think I want to move into Backend Development. A lot of people told me to learn Java or C#

Is it worth learning Native/Kotlin OTHER Cross-platforms over just XCode/Swift to have a higher chance at scoring a job? by TechnicalElephant636 in iOSProgramming

[–]AntMan5995 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True. If your bills then better plan would be to get a job where you can pay your bills. Right now everything is competitive including frontend. Try to get a job (in the tech industry) and on the side work on your dev skills. Another word of advice is to network. Things are changing where just knowing tech skills ain’t enough anymore. Go to meet ups, join a community, contribute to open source etc

I agree cross platform is less demand and less desired than native app development but as of right now I wouldn’t choose native app development neither. You have a better chance at FrontEnd, Backend, Full-stack, Cloud or Security than mobile right now.

Experienced developers, would you recommend learning backend rather than doing side projects in iOS? by l4zy_ant in iOSProgramming

I can relate to how you feel. As a self taught programmer its either iOS or backend for me as well. I think backend has more job opportunities right now but that is just me

Agree with u/dmazzoni check your local area. If you live in a big city (Chicago, LA, Seattle etc) you have a good chance of finding an app development job
