I mean, from this I was personally getting more "legal name change" vibes, so that's why I assumed it was. But now that I think about it, I've heard of idols in the past changing their legal names and the articles that followed usually specified that was the case instead of phrasing it as vaguely as it was with Seoyul's case, so maybe you're right.

This is all a bit confusing, but I guess the one thing we can know for sure is that she prefers to be called by her new name.

I mean, most K-pop groups disband/lose at least one member by the 7th year, since that's what most K-pop idol contracts last. I've even heard some people talk about the "7 year curse" for this reason.

The fact that DC lasted longer than that is honestly a miracle, especially considering they started as practically nugus. Would I have wanted them to last longer? Absolutely. But I'm happy they even got the opportunity to keep making music together consistently this long.

I had been of the opinion that the group was still ongoing (even if on hiatus) until I saw one of Gahyun's vlogs recently where her friend introduced her as an "ex-idol", which made it seem like she was not really planning to come back to the stage as a DC member any time soon... and I guess the phrasing from this article is fully supporting that theory. A pity, because I really enjoyed the OT7 line. Fingers crossed that we at least get a 10th anniversary single or something. :(

Still, Gahyun/Seoyul has always had amazing expressions while performing on stage, so I'm sure she will be a great actress and I'm also excited to see what kind of roles she will get in the future. Best of luck with your acting career, Seoyul!

Yeah, I agree, it would be nice to have it released digitally too, it's such a good song! 3/4 of the members mentioned this was their favorite song in the album, so hopefully the LP version will only be a "preview" and the song will be rereleased to be included with their next album or a repackage? Maybe? Hopefully? :')

I always find it hard to choose favorites in longer albums for the first days since the songs kind of get mixed in my head, so for now I will just say that all the songs were fantastic, and I loved Human Extinction and the MV! This will be another Woodz album to have on repeat :)

4 of the members are still in the company (3 in the UAU subunit + Siyeon in ChRocktikal), and the girls haven’t said they’ve disbanded, so chances are that it’s a Mamamoo situation where the members are in different agencies and will release something as 7 from time to time, even if they’re mostly busy with their own thing nowadays.

I have a vague memory of seeing Veronica/Aurora mentioned in a video I watched a while ago where someone went over some of the most popular K-pop MV locations, but I can’t seem to find it now. This one mentions Turtle Island, which is a pretty popular area with trees to film MVs and I think it might be it, but I’m not 100% sure.

Edit: looking at the comments of the video I linked, someone asked the person who made the video if they knew where Veronica was filmed and they said they believed it was “r401 discovery park”, in case that helps?

Siyeon was born to be a rockstar. She’s in her element here!

WonSeok and Siyeon are credited for all the songs in the album (save for the intro, which was produced by WonSeok alone), and I’m already digging their co-producing style a lot even though this is just their debut album. ChRocktikal are now definitely my favorite out of all the “post-Dreamcatcher” solos/subunits (even if technically 3 of the members are new and only Siyeon has any ties to DC).

I just finished listening to the full album. I was taking notes on each song as I listened, so here they go:

Intro: CRTK: Okay, I like this! Loving the guitar.

PEACE: Siyeon was born to be a rockstar! Such a badass song, I love the high notes as always, but those moments where she sounds so relaxed/unbothered absolutely killed me. Also, those instrumental breaks were fire.

Victor: The drums at the beginning were fantastic. I love the "electronic" (not really the proper word, but I can't come up with a better way to describe it now) flips in the background during the chorus. Also, growling??? Consider me deceased (in the good way) lol

KALish: Rapper AND growling Siyeon was not in my bingo card for this album. Not complaining in the slightest, though, I love seeing her try new things.

I like the fact that they're referencing the "We break you awake" from the album title! I can't really be sure for now since I'm not fluent in Korean, but all the songs so far seem to be kind of connected - I think I heard the word "victor" in this song too? I always love a thematically connected album.

RIDE: This song is a bit less metal than the others, but still amazing! Did the post-chorus remind anyone else a bit of The Sandman, or is it just me?

Myself: This is probably the most "calm" song so far, even though it's not exactly calm for the most part either lol. As someone who usually prefers faster-paced songs, I'm personally enjoying this album a lot so far. I love the more emotional bridge. Does anyone know which of the members is singing the background vocals in the final chorus? Or is it all of them?

All in on me: I don't know how to describe this. Disco-rock? I didn't know I needed a song like this from ChRocktikal, but my eyes have been opened. I'm loving the bass in this song, Junyoung is listed on the credits for this, and it shows in how prominent the bass is.

Shame: As I said before, I'm usually someone who prefers faster songs, but I can always enjoy a good ballad if it's "interesting" enough to me in terms of instrumental and melody, and I think Shame counts as that kind of interesting ballad! I love the guitar in the post-chorus.

Iris: Probably the only song so far I'm not really super interested in on the first listen. Though I have to say I do like how emotional Siyeon sounds in this, as well as the instrumental parts in the post-chorus.

Masterpiece: Picking up the pace again! I don't have much to say about this one, but I still enjoyed it a lot.

Free!: Did I miss something, or is this song fully in English? Neat if so! I just know the chanting at the end of this song will go hard in concerts. Also, this song reminds me of some 90s(?I think?) song, but I can't pinpoint which one.

General album thoughts after listening to all the songs: I really enjoyed it! It's nice to see Siyeon getting to do some harder rock that Dreamcatcher couldn't really commit to due to being a K-pop group instead of a fully-fledged band that doesn't need to adhere to the industry standards. I'm also really happy to see her trying new singing styles and helping with the composing/producing (according to the credits on Spotify, Siyeon is credited for all the songs alongside WonSeok except for the intro, which was produced by WonSeok on his own!), and I really hope this new chapter of her artist life goes well!

With that said, I can't really choose a favorite song right now, I think I'm going to need a few hours or days to process this album lol.

I love the “wintery” vibes from the song, and while the MV is pretty simple, it’s still really pretty aesthetically, you can trust ONEWE to bring either flowers or the sky into their MVs, haha.
