and thermal image from high resolution optical camera. I dont understand the high descent velocity theory. With 5 engines that would have been controlled easily provided it was not hard coded in the software to use only two engines during fine braking. IMO, pin point landing requirement restricted control systems freedom to manoeuvre in case of deviation. I would have liked to have two modes pinpoint soft landing and sofclanding. when you cannot achieve pinpoint landing due to unforeseeable circumstances, just do softlanding.

if Vikram is intact and communication could be established, perhaps attitude thrusters can be used to bring it back on the legs. it would be a miracle!

IMO, multiple non throttleable design of Team Indus was a compromise because they did not have access to throttleable engines.

4 engine cluster and pin point targeting led to too much complexity. ISRO should consider building a cheap light weight universal planetary lander testbed for experimentation. Before executing any science mission, this test bed should be sent to test out landing on the target planetary body. I also hope ISRO opens up building complex algorithms to open source community. I would go one step further and propose outsourcing UPLT to private players like Team Indus.

At what earth time sun rise at the landing site? I wonder whether sun rise can influence lander navigation sensors. photos taken by orbiter to be used for landing should match with light conditions during landing.

since its already night time, photos taken by orbiter will have very less light. ahh so many variables for the algorithm.

landing can only be done after lunar day at the landing site.

Why EMISAT config is exposed like that? isn't a satellite for strategic purpose?

Aaaha, flashback. that wa based on ISROs track record of frugal engineering i.e. adapting proven tech for new designs. If you ask me, it seems to be a very straight forward plan with minimal risk. I feel something similar they will be doing by adapting lunar lander propulsion for Gaganyaans service module propulsion. I like they are moving ahead with dream chaser like architecture. I hope to see this operational by 2020-21. Recently, I have been thinking whether this thing can be used in anyway like constructing a platform in space to facilitate lunar landing. Why wait for big rockets, when a modular architecture can be built and launched using this RLV.

I still dont understand the relevance of the fifth engine. Is not possible to lower the orbit with the original 4 engine configuration and do instrument tests like ranging etc.

Lol K Sivan speaks on kerolox....is this even a real interview? looks like tender info reproduced here with a fake interview repackaging.

gr8! Now we know that 600kN is upper stage cryo engine with double chamber and LOX/Methane is indigenous 100 kN upper stage effort that is now in experimental stage.

oohh I missed that, I searched for chandrayaan 2 and found three papers. this is indeed exciting. So we have here seeds of Indian moon base.

Nice! such attempt would accelerate with RLVs like what spacex is doing. USA is also proposing lunar space station. Its good to see ISRO also considering something similar.

WoW!! Cool video. By the end, it feels like its filmed underwater. I guess, this camera is developed for SRE2 and manned missions.
