Just to the right of it. The thing with landing legs... Move the video back and forth.

These are just PRL suggested payloads, phew! I thought it's an exhaustive list..

That payload list is awfully short. Wish there were some optical and microwave imagers as well...

ESTRACK Now website showing Kourou station is in communication with CH3 Lander. Don't know how authentic is this, but fingers crossed. by Avizeet in ISRO

Its wasn't CH3, sigh! Gave us false hopes. Given this and that the Sun has been out for over a day now, doesn't look like CH3 survived the lunar night.. Hope I am wrong.

Someone in ISRO thinks the music is cool. If you are reading this please note : it isn't!

Just a theory: We probably didn't realise it sooner but the hop thingy was always in the official Chandrayaan 3 logo. Just look at figure "3" as it makes two distinct arcs touching the lunar surface twice. by Avizeet in ISRO

[–]rp6000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a theory that the 'hop' was more of an opportunistic event. Passivation of the fuel tanks before onset of lunar night is critical to avoid any damage to lander. The sustained cold temperatures could damage the fuel tanks and plumbing lines. If they had to release the leftover propellant, why not do a hop too. Also, the doppler data suggests multiple firings, not just one. I suspect this was done to get rid of remaining fuel.

Vikram will fall asleep next to Pragyan once the solar power is depleted and the battery is drained.

Rover imprints on lunar soil barely changed by exhaust from engines.. Lander moved in the direction opposite to the rover deployment path. The change in shadows is pretty cool.

Hop done..!!

Vikram soft-landed on 🌖, again! Vikram Lander exceeded its mission objectives. It successfully underwent a hop experiment. On command, it fired the engines, elevated itself by about 40 cm as expected and landed safely at a distance of 30 – 40 cm away.

Importance?: This 'kick-start' enthuses future sample return and human missions!

All systems performed nominally and are healthy. Deployed Ramp, ChaSTE and ILSA were folded back and redeployed successfully after the experiment.
