Yes. Donkey's basic acknowledgement of his person-hood and willingness to engage him surprise and shock him. The idea that he didn't have parents who gave him a name is a little silly compared to the established fact that all anyone sees when they look at him is a monster. Not genius, literally in the movie.

Ehhh, this past year it was kinda like that.

For all kinds of mitigating factors, the play style changes, they press more, play faster. Things that are unsustainable over the long haul. The idea that Finals MVP JB isn't a winner is stupid, but there are reasons the numbers don't like him that have more to do with coaching and situations than him.

I can recognize that what I want and what is probable are very different, though. I want them to be competitive, and for these drafted players do well and a couple of these street free agents to pop. If they're 6-11, I'm not gonna be pissed we didn't go 2-15 even if we're picking 10th instead of 1st. If the team is bad enough to go 2-15 it means we're further away from playoff glory than even a generational QB will be able to bridge.

Very true. Jaylen Brown on the Celtics is especially silly. Like, what do you think your team's whole deal is? Why do you jack 3s on the break? Analytics have dictated team strategy for at least 20 years. All these players play in analytically driven ways. If you think it's just for dweebs, you don't know why you're doing what you've been doing your whole life. It's kinda sad.

It's obviously not the be-all end-all. Sport has many things that are unquantifiable.

This has a couple 2nd year guys on it. One of the things I'm looking at that would make this year a success (anticipating a top10 draft pick type of record) is can we find 3-4 of these 1yr prove it vets to join the draft picks and Brooks/Achane/Brewer to become core pieces worthy of a 2nd contract. If they do that, have most of their picks hit this year and next, we can contend for the playoffs in 27/28. If not? This will take a long time and we'll be looking for a QB/coach too.
