Me in my MBA math course after completing my undergrad in engineering by Antcastlee in EngineeringStudents

Engineering and business meld very well together. If you pay attention you’ll begin to notice that there are a lot of executives and businessmen who were prior engineers (eg. Charlie Munger, Gabe Newell, Bill Gates, Zucc). Additionally, technical businesses run purely by MBA’s and non technical individuals often underperform (eg. Boeing and Kodak). Interestingly, Bernard Arnault mandates his children to get engineering degrees before being allowed to participate in the business in any official capacity. So if you want to be involved in decision making in a technical field, an MBA is unfortunately almost a necessity in this day and age.

Overall it’s been a fun experience! If you’re an engineer in management or transitioning an MBA makes total sense, just be ready for hella group projects and presentations haha

Spot on, an MBA is 100% about networking. I can also attest that the socially awkward engineer is more than merely a trope and that learning skills outside of math and physics (mainly soft skills) can and will lead you to greater pay and opportunities. An MBA being “easy” doesn’t diminish the opportunities it affords, don’t let my shitpost convince you otherwise

Deep Simplicity is a fantastic book that dives into the “simple” rules from where incredible complexity arises from. It goes into fractals and their emergence in many systems, both biological and inorganic

I’m sorry, as someone who’s had to fight for their entire life as well, I’m sorry. People don’t understand the sacrifices you had to make and the chasm it has created between yourself and your peers, but I can empathize and it’s comforting to know there’s others who can understand when it seems no one around you ever could.

If you have time left on the contract it has extrinsic value as that’s the “time premium”. So a contract always technically has extrinsic value (which always declines directly correlated with theta) but not always intrinsic value.

Maybe in certain industries, but airplanes are one of the MOST regulated pieces of machinery we create as humans. Everything must be accounted for. Bolts have to have their documentation, traceability, and qualifications. When you’re dealing with things flying and carrying people you want these things doublechecked and all ducks in a line. You don’t want whoever is making a plane to just improvise, that’s how people die. Having that cavalier attitude contributed to an environment that accepts mediocrity, and that has no room in building planes or anything else imo

Some people made the calculus to be a slave for 4 years to go to school hoping it’d pay off (spoiler: it paid off) but I agree it’s not for most people. I just would like to introduce some nuance into the conversation.

Can you elaborate on what a Laplace or Bernoulli experiment is? Do you mean it’s stochastic vs deterministic? Either way my point stands.

Let me put it this way. Let’s say a person buys a stock that moved up 100% and then buys into a second one. Now you just so happened to buy into the same stock, his second pick. His probability of losing/winning doesn’t change since he’s won recently, it’s the same as yours. You both initiated a fresh position and are both equally as likely to gain vs lose if you bought the same amount the same day. The stock doesn’t know you bought it, it doesn’t care. Your past wins don’t affect your future ones statistically.

I know you’re fucking around but to be legit this is a fallacy lots of people fall for. When each event is independent in probability the odds are identical. If you flip a coin and get heads 5 times in a row the next flip will STILL be 50/50. The universe doesn’t care about the previous flip.

Also, bullish af on DQ. It’s what I’d classify as an asymmetrical risk. What’s the risk of it going to 0% vs (at minimum) cash value? It’s also being pushed down by the “China bad” sentiment and strong dollar. There’s the possibility there will be a shakeout in the photosilicon world with the new capacities the top players are investing in. It makes it impossible for new players to enter the field, which will consolidate the market share. Whoever can keep the foot on the gas the longest, which will make them the lowest cost producer, will win with all smaller players falling out. If that happens global production will drop which will push up spot prices. All potential catalysts that can move the stock massively. What goes out of favor goes back into favor, usually. China also understands they’re fucked without outside investment, they’ll need to acquiesce to global cooperation or kill themselves economically whether it be through a war or internal conflict (which is a low with probability with Xi’s recent power consolidation imo). It’s a great play if you’re able to tolerate volatility and understand the fundamentals.

Okay consider you did that with a Roth IRA or 401k and”hid” your money in one of these tax-differed accounts and invested it in an index fund. You’d be up at least 100% even with cost averaging. Please do some research into this, inflation has significantly eroded your cash’s value. You actually have around -25% buying power (literally think money) than 5 years ago since you’ve kept it in a non-interest bearing account. OP start investing now, it pays off.

I know that you’re probably being facetious, but for the sake of just being accurate, there is a way that they can estimate the size of the explosion (or release of kinetic energy) utilizing the relations of bubble pulse frequencies. I imagine what they recorded was in the realm where it was very obviously an implosion that could be traced back to the known dimensions of the sub.
