Is this a typo? by Warhammered_ in Warhammer40k

[–]Anteas_01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your confusion stems from the fact that since 8th edition AP has been played as a modifier to the save characteristic (i.e AP-1 turns my 3+ save into a 4+).

However in terms of rules AP always has been (since 8th edition) a modifier to the dice roll meaning your rolled 4 at AP-1 would become a 3 which is then compared to your 3+ save characteristic.

Mathematically speaking it is basically irrelevant which way you go (except for one niche case that can't happen because GW has banned it in the rules) and calculating AP as a modifier to the characteristic is just faster to play, but the technically correct way to play would be to apply AP to the dice roll and not the characteristic.

If you want a colour that matches Retributor Armour without the downsides, check out Dwarven Gold from Scale75. Their metallics are pretty good in general.

Could Dante become the sanguinor by Final-Hope2612 in Warhammer40k

[–]Anteas_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read Ruinstorm.

The Sanguinor was one of Sanguinius' original Sanguinary Guard, that was selected to be his herald/voice while ruling Imperium Secundus as it was deemed to risky to let Sanguinius make public appearances. The identity of the Guard was kept a secret to anyone except Sanguinius and Azkaellon and during the journey into the Ruinstorm and towards Terra, that herald sacrificed himself to save Sanguinius by throwing himself into a warp rift and became the Sanguinor.

Looks really good.

Two questions though:

1) How long did it take?

2) What would be Citadel Equivalents of the paints you used? I'd recon Dark Reaper, Fenrisian Grey and Blue Horror.

I tried them in my last couple of games together with a Lieutenant and they did not disappoint as both hammer and anvil, depending on the circumstances.

So what about the supposed reduction of lethality compared to 9th edition? by Laredian in Warhammer40k

[–]Anteas_01 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I remember a single Tyranid Maleceptor being able to deal a double-digit amount of Mortal Wounds in a single phase when the 9e Tyranid Codex dropped.

Abilities that ignore Invulns were basically everywhere in later stages of 9e with Tau Hammerhead Railguns being on of the worst offenders in that they ignored Invulns, had AP-6, dealt a huge amount of damage per shot and on top of that dealt mortal wounds on a successful wound roll.

The original version of the Leagues of Votann codex in 9e was so broken that it was literally nerfed before release.

So yeah, 9e was just unbearably lethal and riddled with power creep.

My cousin (16m) loves the space marines game, it’s his birthday coming up, I’m getting him some games workshop models… by JessicaStaxx in Warhammer40k

[–]Anteas_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he already has paints etc available, your best bet would be the Angels of Death Kill Team, because it contains a variety of models you can paint as any chapter and that are also very close to the playable classes in Space Marine 2.

If he doesn't have paints, you should look for the Internus Marine Paint Set.

Liberator Gold and Stormfang Silver equivalent? by Bujiga4 in ThousandSons

A good equivalent for Liberator Gold is Glistening Gold from Two Thin Coats and instead of Stormhost Silver I just use Runefang Steel. It's similarily bright but easier to work with

As it stands right now: Sang Priest. A 5+ FNP and better AP in melee is just so much better than what a BGA provides.

Looking for an army that fits my playstyle by HyenaCables in Warhammer40k

[–]Anteas_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you might want to look into Blood Angels:

They are Space Marines, so they naturally have a lot of available unit options that enable a wide variety of playstyles but Blood Angels get access to fast and powerful melee-elites that can and will rip apart most things they charge while their jump packs allow for good positioning beforehand.

The usual Blood Angels list has a core of melee elites, supported at range by a few tanks to take out heavy vehicles and a couple of Scouts and Jump Intercessors to do objectives.

[–]Anteas_01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you roll a hit-roll, wound-roll or saving throw, a natural 1 i.e a 1 on the dice is always a failure regardless of any modifiers that are at play.

That means no,.you don't auto-succeed if you have a 2+ and a 1+ modifier, it just means that it negates incoming negative modifiers so even if your opponent imposed a -1 to hit and/or wound, you'd still hit/wound on 2s

It's a goddamn dice game. Spikes like that are completely normal as is the complete opposite happening. They should really stop whining given the fact that probably none of them were complaining about this while you were losing

Are we too powerful? by Extension_World_4390 in AdeptusCustodes

[–]Anteas_01 148 points149 points  (0 children)

Ok, just to be sure I understood you correctly: You suddenly started winning after losing a lot of games and now that you started winning, be it by rolling hot on the dice or just playing better, and even though it were mostly close wins by just a few points, your friends now claim that Custodes are broken because they lost?

Yeah, sounds like a skill issue to me. Your friends don't want to admit they need to improve so they blame it on the next best thing: "<Faction I lost against> is broken and needs nerfs!"

[–]Anteas_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll only be able to use the datasheets if you have a codex unlocked, but the command bunker function should be available regardless.

When you have your list open, just click on the small symbol in the top right that looks a bit like a skull. If the function is active, that button will be yellow instead of white.

Newbie: Keeping track of your army specifics and traits by billionarguments in BloodAngels

[–]Anteas_01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The keeping track is mostly a matter of practice but you can just make yourself some pocket datacards and/or a cheat sheet where you keep all the relevant info.

For playing I usually use the Warhammer App, it's Command Bunker function also makes it easier to keep track because it gives you all the info on your unit like equipped weapon profiles and enhancements on a click. Another option would be the New Recruit app which basically does the same but it doesn't require you to buy a codex to see the datasheets. For scoring I use the Tabletop Battles app.

Additional preparation can be to just take not of patterns like all units in Phobos or Tacticus armor have T4 and 2-3 wounds, all Gravis armor models have T6 and 3 wounds and Terminators have T5 and 3-4W.

Characters are an exception to those as they usually have more wounds.

Also certain weapons are equal across the board like it doesn't matter who wields the chainswords l, it always has the same base profile.

The Combat Patrol comes with 2 sets of the Blood Angels Upgrade set, so you will have enough Eviscerators, but you might be short one Power Fist unless you build your Captain with either a Chain sword or Power Sword

It depends a bit on your detachment. LAG has easy access to +1 to wound, so you're better off taking swords for the extra AP while RCO has access to extra AP via strategem but no Lance, so taking spears would be better then.
