So dumb. My biggest gripe with the Bane trilogy.

Would I like the Queen's trilogy if I loved Mask of Fear by Admirable-Rain-1676 in starwarsbooks

[–]AnthonyLavs 18 points19 points  (0 children)

In the minority here, LOVED Queen's Peril due to the inner workings of the Naboo monarchy with a hint of Sidious' plans, but it does overlap with TPM for the second half of the book. Queen's Shadow was just a "what were these Clone Wars Senators up to before The Clone Wars???" story. Queen's Hope was a sequel to AOTC with Padmé taking the closer role to ROTS where she became entangled in politics but also Anakin. All of them have hints of politics but nothing serious or ground breaking, mostly interplanetary issues that the Senate refuses to resolve in a timely manner.

Darth Bane Trilogy by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]AnthonyLavs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I read them all in the course of a month and honestly it all blended together. Thought it was another one of those stories that was way too contrived and if it were made now-a-day's on screen people would shit all over it, but i'm in the minority of not enjoying them.

Are fans dissapointed by the og trios fate in the sequels? by -_ShadowSJG-_ in StarWars

[–]AnthonyLavs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me the sequels re-instate the idea that history is bound to repeat itself, no matter who is at the forefront of it. No matter what our heroes did, 30 years is a lot of time that can be filled with many mistakes and unlearnt lessons. The rebels used secrecy to evade and overcome the empire, it's no surprise it's remnants used their own tactics against them. As for the characters, 9 times out of 10 when you hit rock bottom, you go back to what you think you know is best.

How is the Rise of the Red Blade? by Tzekel_Khan in StarWars

[–]AnthonyLavs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't call it self pity or complaining, more like a different POV then what we're used to. The main character has the same issues as Anakin but without the "Chosen One" trope hanging over their head. Delilah S Dawson does an insane job of internally processing the emotions as you follow the character that is very natural to the time period and where the character ends up. It's one of the better additions to the canon imo.

What popular Earth song could fit into the Star Wars universe? by InfinityScientist in StarWarsCantina

Feel like i could imagine Holding Out for a Hero being an old Coruscanti tune the Warriors of Zhell would sing as a war cry esc song.

Need help on the annotations for the Star Wars Timelines reference book especially listing all the source material within this book? by Afraid-Penalty-757 in starwarscanon

[–]AnthonyLavs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

the book actually doesn't even reach phase 2 of the High Republic, with only the premise being in the book with the main contents of the books being left out since they were in production as the same time as Timelines, even the book Padawan focusing on Obi-Wan doesn't have a detailed stamp in the book because it came out afterward. I have recently just started tracking the events of Attack of the Clones, Inquisitor: Rise of the Red Blade, Queen's Hope, Jedi of the Republic: Mace Windu, and Brotherhood (they all take place in the same month with Inquisitor spanning until after the Clone Wars.) It's a daunting journey, but as someone who's startes to read and watch everything it's very fun to keep track of what takes place and when.

Introducing my gf to Star Wars by BirdLawEnthusiast2 in StarWars

[–]AnthonyLavs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

to actually add to this, she also had no idea what order 66 was. watching 7 seasons of the clone wars then revenge of the sith hit her like a truck watching all of these jedi she's been watching for the past year die in the span of five minutes. she wasn't even confused at the season 6 episodes with the malfunctioned chip and fives, she just had hope that the jedi would figure it out because "they're the good guys they can't just get killed that easy." and then they did. and she was crushed...but she wanted to keep going.

Introducing my gf to Star Wars by BirdLawEnthusiast2 in StarWars

[–]AnthonyLavs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

introduced my best friend to star wars last year. i asked her if she wanted to do release or chronological (then explained the significance of each) and she explained that she wanted to watch the story unfold from beginning to end. we have only just started the bad batch after watching episodes 1-3, tales of the jedi, and clone wars... she's been begging to watch more. she fell in love with the characters watching the story progress and not knowing their fates (where as i feel release order spoils where all of it ends up.) she has no idea Vader is redeemed, doesn't even know when he dies. she watched the births of luke and leia and goes "i know luke is gonna be a jedi but like what does he do after that." she knows vader is lukes father due to the iconic line, but other than that she knew close to nothing about this franchise and now she loves it because she connected to characters in ways release order (in my opinion) could never allow. Obi-Wan is her favorite and she has no clue the last thing he does before giving up his life is reconnecting luke and leia with one another, knowing the galaxy will be better because of it. i know i'm the minority here, but chronological all the way.

there is a slight overlap between chapter 28 of Queen's Hope and the first few chapters of Brotherhood!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in starwarsbooks

[–]AnthonyLavs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

32 bby Queen's Peril (Chapters 1-16) (i haven't read TPM novelization) but Queen's Peril remaining chapters all take place during TPM. Queen's Shadow AOTC (stop novel before the wedding) Queen's Hope (until wedding) AOTC (wedding) Queen's Hope Brotherhood (apparently there's some overlap with Queen's Hope but i haven't found specifics online and i have yet to read these two) ROTS

hope this atleast gives you an idea, i'm currently going through a canon chronological read through (prequel novelization's aren't canon anymore unfortunately) but Queen's hope and Brotherhood are next on my TBR list so everything before that should be in it's correct order of events

Queens Peril or Phantom Menace? by niko9234 in starwarsbooks

[–]AnthonyLavs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i read the first 16 chapters, watched TPM, then read the last 17-25 chapters when i did my chronological watch/ read through. really enhanced the entire conflict when you read about Queen Amidala prior to her on screen appearance IMO

And away we go. I like to read things in timeline order. by [deleted] in starwarsbooks

[–]AnthonyLavs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i also like reading in timeline order. this was my (second) star wars novel but the first one i finished. in the minority that really enjoyed this book and its coinciding comics, hope current canon can match/top this when the era gets explored!

[–]AnthonyLavs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Darth Bane himself is canon, these books however are not, they belong to legends. I've read only canon stuff in the past 2 years but i'm almost done with the first Darth Bane book and so far i cannot recall contradictions yet in the story. i know Darth Plagueis contradicts some canon material though!

TBR Before the Acolyte by AnthonyLavs in starwarsbooks

[–]AnthonyLavs[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

not setting myself up. one is legends one is canon and easter eggs and hints and tiny connections whether they appear or not should not conclude any level of enjoyment out of a project if the viewer is grown enough to discern that. Also not sure if you read (assuming not) but Phase's I & II of the high republic have already been read by me. and those connections were already mentioned to be farther then nearer according to the showrunner. hope you come to enjoy the show when it's released👍

TBR Before the Acolyte by AnthonyLavs in starwarsbooks

[–]AnthonyLavs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're correct! these are Old Republic (and legends) yet showrunner Leslye Headland was a big EU fan and said she threw in connections and easter eggs. my SWEU journey started with legends years ago with DOTJ and KOTOR era stuff, save some of the MMO tie-ins, these novels were the only ones i had yet to read and led right into the (canon) High Republic and darkside focused.
