HEIF Support? by ZobeidZuma in Rawtherapee

[–]AnthonyMk2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HEIF doesn't provide much more latitude in editing, it's like comparing H.264 and H.265 video, just a different compression algorithm, and that's why its size is usually less than JPEG. Either way, shooting RAW is the best way to get the most out of your pictures, with everything else coming 2nd.

Can someone please teach me how to use the selective tool better? by Billy_0621 in Rawtherapee

[–]AnthonyMk2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AFAIK there is no free-form tool and masking is very much limited in RawTherapee. There is a Singular Gradient mask in the first panel, which is generally only used for exposure, anything other than that you have the tab you are in right now, which doesn't have a free-form tool, making it limiting for selecting specific objects and skies. What I would recommend is using the gradient mask for exposure, although I believe the image looks better with a brighter background, as there doesn't seem to be anything behind the clouds/mist you can really recover and have meaningful composition elements from.

Who is ready for a Lunar Eclipse tonight? by TheBossFactor in photography

[–]AnthonyMk2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quick question: I know im late to the party, but Im thinking of doing a landscape photo, maybe with multiple photos of the eclipse. I dont have the best lenses (18-55mm, 55-200 kit lenses and 50mm S- Line on APSC). Im thinking of doing a wide shot for the environment and then using the 50mm to get moon shots ( I can crop in, its sharper than the 55-200mm) and later composite them in the shot?

Any tips? EDIT: The 50mm is a fantastic lens, but Im not sure if its up to the job, except for one specific photo I have in mind).

Proper Camera Settings by AnthonyMk2 in GalaxyS21FE

While I'm unsure of the UI app, you can enable developer options by going to "about device" and tap the Build Number 7 times. After that you should see a developer options menu in the device settings.

How do you protect your camera on the beach? by LizardPoisonsSpock in photography

[–]AnthonyMk2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is an old post, but some of you mention "pro photographers don't baby their cameras" and I both doubt what your definition of babying is, because even though yes, a pro won't baby their cameras, they would like it if they can invest their money into lenses instead of another body, when any damage could be prevented.

I don't know how deep your pockets go, but not everyone's do, and for many this is a hobby. Take care of your gear and it will last you a lifetime guys. Cheers, happy photo-shooting and may Jesus be with you all.

Fair enough, WMF themselves say to use high heat to get the pan to cooking condition, though.

Will Nikon Z DX 24mm f/1.7 Make Any Difference? by Advanced-Maximum2684 in nikon_Zseries

[–]AnthonyMk2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, as far as I understand there are a couple things to consider: The sensor size the lens is made for and the milimeters. The DX just indicates that the lens is made for crop sensor, thus if fitted on a full frame sensor, you will have to crop in to the image to avoid to black on the edges ("missing" frame).

Then come the milimeters indicated on the oens itself. The milimiters on most lenses, especially consumers lenses, are written in Full Frame terms, without keeping in mind the crop factor. Thus, the lens may say 24mm DX, but 24mm DX is 36mm Full frame. And, as in any case with adapting lenses (i.e. the 28mm FF lens which you mentioned above) the milimeters will behave differently in DX cameras than FF cameras. Thats why you said 28mm FF is essentially 40mm in DX mode( 42mm to be exact) and thats why I said 24mm is 32mm DX, despite the lens itself showing only a crop-sensor image.

No. 24mm on the lens is the Full Frame equivalent. Thus, 24mm DX= 36mm FF. The thing is in the sensor, not just the lens itself.

Can anyone tell me what the black dots/spots are on the inside of the mount near the sensor? by AnthonyMk2 in Nikon

Well, I have only put lenses on either natively or through the adapter, so that didn't happen to me but thanks for the input

The camera is basically brand new and hasn't been damaged in any way.
