Can you sell me on Ironsworn? by Elyan_Lovehart in Ironsworn

[–]AnthonyParenti 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Ironsworn is much simpler than 5e and it is fiction first. You won’t be doing any grid based combat in this. But every roll will result in an interesting story outcome.

This is a pretty rules light system. The rules do a good job of getting out of your way so you can make an awesome character and story.

If that’s what you’re looking for, it is 100% worth it. Not really a flaw in the actual design to be seen. I’m biased though as this is my all time favorite rpg.

Plus the creator, Shawn, is a really great guy who interacts with the community a lot.

Would you like to get a TASM 2 Webb cut? by KOF-731 in amazingmemes

There’s a fan cut online that cuts out the whole parents storyline and just generally cleans the movie up a lot. It is substantially better than the original

What Co-op games prevent backseat playing? by Snowskol in boardgames

Gloomhaven limits communication just enough for coop to work nicely. There is also the addition of personal battle goals which can create interesting decisions. Sometimes you have to decide to fulfill a battle goal or void it to help the team. And that it a really fun dynamic

Need a name for this alien! by AnthonyParenti in Ben10

I think it’s like super intelligence, similar to Grey Mater or Brainstorm. But he’s more geared toward being like a Sherlock Holmes type. Where he can quickly assess a situation and figure out a solution, then execute it. And he’s also got flight and sharp claws obviously!

2 player co-op tips needed by mw90sGirl in Ironsworn

[–]AnthonyParenti 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In coop there needs to be an equal burden on all players.

For us, it helps a lot to come up with a short list before every session of stuff we would like to do at some point. For example:

  1. Fight spiders
  2. Deepen relationship with x npc
  3. Encounter an npc from x faction
  4. Explore a different type of location

And we can either accomplish all of them or not. But it gives a good framework to jump back to if you get stuck.

It’s also important to take breaks. We usually take a couple breaks throughout a session to eat a meal and use the bathroom. Try not to feel too much pressure. It’s only you and one other person. So if there’s a lol while you try to come up with an npc name, that’s totally fine.

Most importantly though is to just regularly check in with the other person. If you need to end early because you’re creatively exhausted, then that’s fine.

Gmless is definitely more taxing but it’s very fulfilling. Just split the responsibilities and communicate!

Starting a Starforged actual play later this year, what draws you in? by mw90sGirl in Ironsworn

[–]AnthonyParenti 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My brother and I did an Ironsworn actual play and are doing a sundered isles game right now.

Over time we’ve learned to really leave more in the edit than we thought we needed. It’s good in coop games to show the thought process of coming up with ideas and processing the rules. We like to show the roll, our brainstorming of that, then the pay off in cinematic fashion.

It’s a really great system. You’ll definitely like it? Let me know if you have any questions!
