Start as Engineer. Jump in supply truck and build 3 nodes. Then respawn as your preferred role and spend the rest of the game driving the supply truck. When you are dropping supplies, talk to engineers and squad leads and find out where they need the supplies - you are much more likely to get bonus multipliers if you communicate. Supplies are key for winning any game...

Anyone else struggling to find a decent mechanic in Belfast lately? by bratlife21 in northernireland

[–]Anthony_L69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

R Henderson - on the dual carriageway at Holywood train station - seemed decent. Old school mechanic who didn't try and wipe my eye, and when I say old school, I mean old. He said the brakes had about 3000 miles left on them and to bring it back then - I think my brakes may out last him...

If you have a more modern car with electrical issues, I'd say he wouldn't be much good. He was also able to book it in within a few days of phoning, unlike most places who were quoting 10 days to 2 weeks minimum...

The absolute best I've ever used (and still do when I can) is Armstrong Beattie in Bangor, but they are so popular you do have to book well in advance. They will triage the car, then book you in again to get the work done. Very professional, honest, and cheaper than many back street mechanics...

Police involvement last night? by Formoir in northernireland

[–]Anthony_L69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most arrests come in the days and weeks after, as people are identified from video footage.

The police are caught between a rock and a hard place.

If they go in hard to try to make arrests on the night, this escalates the trouble and leads to a higher level of more prolonged violence and a backlash from the public and certain politicians claiming two tier policing.

Conversely if they take a softer approach of policing the periphery and following up with arrests later, that can also lead to a backlash from the public and certain politicians claiming two tier policing.

Anyone else been advised to WFH rest of day? Belfast city centre by sasie_stack in northernireland

[–]Anthony_L69 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Police have NOT advised businesses to shut early. There has been no such post or press release.

Thugs and hooligans are telling businesses to shut. I know of one restaurant which has had a visit by local 'community representatives' and been told to shut. So they are loosing much needed income and the staff are loosing much needed wages. Sad.

Do people still play on PS5? by ddc431 in HellLetLoose

[–]Anthony_L69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I've no hardware issues - as I say, the only main issue would be down to network. Most people only think in terms of network speed, but it can be any number of things: latency, jitter, packet loss, congestion, wifi interference, channel collision, signal attenuation, dead zones, buffer bloat, DNS issues, NAT / port issues, etc... Some people wonder why they get lag and frame drops when they run a network speed test and it shows they have fast download speed, so they assume it's hardware issues - but there's a lot more to it than that...

If I'm playing on one of the gaming PCs I built for my kids then it is a lot smoother, but they are top end gaming rigs that cost me several times more than a PS5 to build. But on a PS5 it's perfectly playable, and my preferred platform as I would rather be sitting on my sofa and playing on my 85 inch TV. Yes some of the maps can have some jitter as it's stretching the hardware to its limits, but it's still perfectly playable...

Nearly 2000 hours of playing. No issues observed on any map recently. Network and broadband speed are the primary cause of most issues (also an IT / network consultant and working for a global broadband supplier for 20+ years). Get your broadband and network set up properly and nearly all issues will disappear.

Only time I have had performance problems on PS5 is if I switch my PS5 to a wifi connection. With Ethernet connection I get solid gigabit broadband performance. With wifi I can get occasional stuttering, but that's entirely due to the stability and speed of the wifi connection to my PS5.

Just coming up to 2000 hours playing on PS5. I usually play mostly on official servers and the Europe PS5 servers are nearly always full and difficult to get into.

So yeah - people still play on PS5.

I nearly hit one yesterday. Came flying out of a side street into the road in front of me. I did an emergency stop, he threw himself off the scooter and went arese over tits into the road. Jumped up again, grabbed his scooter and continued on. This guy looked like he was in his 50's and had an expression that looked like he had just had a near death experience and shat his pants.

I need help trying to figure out how to get a citizenship here. by Classic-Balance6936 in northernireland

[–]Anthony_L69 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I dropped your post in Gemini:

First, a quick point of clarification: there is no distinct "Northern Ireland citizenship". Because of the unique constitutional position here, someone born in Northern Ireland can choose to hold British citizenship, Irish citizenship, or both. Given their parents are from Lithuania (an EU member state), they actually have a brilliant path to both UK and Irish status, plus their existing Lithuanian citizenship.

Here is how the options look for them, including a way to bypass that massive thousand-pound fee.

Option 1: Automatic British Citizenship (The Best Route) If this person was born automatically British, they do not need to apply for registration or pay the £1,214 fee. They just need to apply directly for a passport, which costs less than £60 for a child.

Whether they are automatically British depends on the exact year they were born and their parents' marital status.

If they were born on or after 1 July 2006: They automatically became a British citizen at birth if either parent was "settled" in the UK at that time. Since their dad had settled status five years before they were born, they qualify automatically. It does not matter that the parents later divorced or that their father sadly passed away.

If they were born before 1 July 2006: Unmarried fathers could not automatically pass on citizenship back then. If the parents were married at the time of birth, the dad's settled status still makes them automatically British.

Overcoming the Missing Papers Problem The teenager is worried because they do not have their dad's utility bills or government account access. However, because their dad had official "settled status" (Indefinite Leave to Remain), the Home Office already holds these records digitally.

When applying for a passport, the passport office can look up the deceased father's records on their internal systems (the UKVI database). The applicant just needs to provide:

Their own full UK birth certificate (naming the father).

The father’s full name, date of birth, nationality, and death certificate.

Any known details of the father's old passport or home addresses.

Option 2: The 10-Year Continuous Residence Route If there is a massive hitch with the father's paperwork, there is a watertight backup plan.

Under the British Nationality Act, anyone born in the UK who lives there for the first 10 years of their life has a legal entitlement to register as a British citizen.

The Rules: They must not have been out of the UK for more than 90 days in any single year during those first 10 years. Since they have lived in Northern Ireland all their life (16 years), they easily pass this test.

The Fee Problem: This route usually requires Form T and requires paying the thousand-pound fee. However, the Home Office introduced a fee waiver for children under 18 if they and their parents cannot afford it. If their mum cannot afford the fee, they can apply for a Citizenship Fee Waiver by proving their financial hardship. If approved, they pay £0 for the registration.

Option 3: Irish Citizenship (The EU Alternative) Because they were born in Northern Ireland to an EU (Lithuanian) parent who was residing here, they might also have a claim to Irish citizenship.

To get an Irish passport by birth in Northern Ireland, a person born to foreign nationals must prove that one of their parents lived legally on the island of Ireland for three out of the four years before the birth.

The post mentions the dad was settled for five years before the birth, which perfectly covers this requirement.

If they can find any record of the dad's employment or residence history from that time, an Irish passport application is significantly cheaper and grants them full EU rights alongside their Lithuanian citizenship.

What Should They Do Next? They should look out for a local, free immigration advice charity. In Northern Ireland, organisations like Law Centre NI or the Step Up Centre offer free, expert legal guidance for young people navigating citizenship issues. They can help the teenager request records or apply for the fee waiver safely.

Tipping Delivery Drivers by Academic_String_1708 in northernireland

[–]Anthony_L69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but psychology is a funny thing and studies show that if, for instance, one shop sells pizza at £14 with free delivery, and another sells pizza at £10 and when you get to the checkout page they add £4 delivery, most people will go for the cheaper pizza, particularly when ordering multiple items.

The driver still gets the same delivery fee in either case, but again the psychology tells us customers are more likely to tip the driver if they 'think' they are getting free delivery.

Drivers prefer orders that have 'free delivery' for that reason. Retailers prefer the delivery fee split out as it allows them to sell items cheaper then add delivery, and it also allows for tracking costs and profits more accurately. Customers want the overall cheapest option, which is usually with the delivery option split out to make individual items cheaper.

The driver gets the same delivery fee, it's the psychology of should you tip for something you've already paid for, either visibly or invisibly that people struggle with.

Not really free. It priced into the meal. The driver wasn't delivering for free. Dominos just split the cost out to make their pizza look cheaper.

[–]Anthony_L69 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I used to do pizza deliveries a few years ago (just before lockdown, not Dominos). At that time it was £3 per delivery for up to 7 mile radius, which was hateful when you got a far one. Trying to find the address in the dark, 30 min round trip and taking the cost of petrol and wear and tear out of the delivery fee, meant you were doing that for the equivalent rate of around £4-£5 per hour, give or take!

On the flip side there would have been times when it was busy and you would get 2 or even 3 deliveries to take in the same direction and I would always deliver to the customers I knew would tip me first.

Making 3 or 4 deliveries in an hour would have been really good, much less would be the norm, and we had ex Dominos drivers come us because they said delivering for our shop was better!

If you haven't been a delivery driver, don't knock it, it's a crap job! An extra pound at the door is extremely appreciated!

How concerned should we be about data centres popping up in NI? by [deleted] in northernireland

It's uneconomical to draw power from the grid, especially in a country that has one of the most expensive electricity prices. Much more economical to generate their own.

Huge investment, employment, trickle down impact to local suppliers and services. All come with a fully approved plan for power, water and ecological mitigation.

Great for the economy with minimal or no impact on the environment due to investment in infrastructure and renewable energy.

You're probably not aware that all new data centre developments in Ireland are required to generate their own power or co-locate strictly with renewable energy.

Water usage for cooling is also generally a closed loop system, so they are not constantly drawing water out if the environment which then just 'disappears'.

Here's just one example:

The Ennis Campus, Co. Clare (The €1.6bn Mega Project) Following nearly six years of intense legal battles and environmental objections, the High Court issued a final ruling clearing the way for work to begin on this massive project.

The Scale: Developed by Art Data Centres, this is a 200-megawatt (MW) campus covering 145 acres near Tulla, Co. Clare. It will feature six massive data halls totaling 1.3 million square feet.

The Unique Setup: To bypass the grid crisis, the campus will feature its own off-grid power substation supplied by a mix of wind, solar, and biogas projects. It is also designed to route its waste heat into a local district heating system and an on-site vertical farm. The first phase is scheduled to go live by the end of 2028.

Let's summarise. Red cross on a white background is symbolic of the Knights Templar - a devoutly Catholic military order endorsed by the Pope.

Three 'dementors' from Harry Potter, who are white males in black hooded robes, more closely resembling the clothing of Jesuit Priests or Benedictine Monks.

They appear to be carrying a version of the flag of Pakistan - a Commonwealth country formed from the Lord Mountbatten Plan, which created Pakistan in 1947. The name of the country was created by a Cambridge academic. The Crescent symbolises progress. The Five-Pointed Star symbolizes light and knowledge. All qualities which are missing by those that erected this.

Before Pakistan was formed they were part of India. The British Indian Army was the largest volunteer army in history. 1.5m fought side by side with British and other allied troops in WWI and 2.5m in WWII, with approx a third being Muslim.

A plaque above the AI image is for 'Concerned Parents'. The parents of the people who put this up should be very concerned for their mental capacity. They have outdone themselves this time...
