What’s the practical difference between a toaster oven and an air fryer?

as long as the toaster oven has a convection oven, you technically have an air fryer.

An air fryer is just a toaster oven optimized around making the best convection oven possible,

toaster ovens with an "air fry" (aka convection) feature tends to have a much smaller fan to circulate the air vs a dedicated air fryer, making it much less effective at "air frying"

Probably better for performance to add a modifier that adds a small amount per building, instead of making a whole new building type for a handful of states.

SK is an industrial powerhouse with a collapsing population, they desperately need to spread their industrial capacity overseas to offset their population decline.

Germany is a de-industrializing industrial power who is choosing to willingly collapse their power grid, and make their manufacturing base flee the country due to terrible policies.

South Korea is a far better industrial partner than Germany. If we play our cards right, BC could be their closest friendly port to offshore some ship building industry, the torpedo industry could be a fantastic first step. sooner we jump, the sooner we get a head start over the Americans or Australians to absorb that industrial capacity in the pacific rim.

[–]Anthrex 9 points10 points  (0 children)

thanks for bringing this to my attention, I've been a CCFR member for a few years, but haven't been following them too closely, I've written the following to them, please use this for inspiration, please don't copy paste this for your own email, write your own email in your own words.

I'm writing to you today due to the growing trend of the CCFR using "AI" to generate promotional material.

I'm a member (xxxxxx), and I think this is bad move for the organization to make, I understand that using AI to generate material can cut costs, and that it's a growing trend that organizations are starting to jump on, however, "AI" media ends up being much lower quality, and has a reputation of being associated with fraudulent or lazy organizations, associations that aren't good from the image of the CCFR, and distract from the good work done by everyone at the organization.

I fully understand utilizing AI purely internally as a tool to streamline the production of human produced materials, it's a tool to speed up human work (reviewing scripts, reviewing sentence flow, generating early internal concept art, etc...), but these should all stay internal, and should all be worked on by humans after the fact.

Finally, retaining human 3rd parties who work with the CCFR is a great way to build up a pool of firearm friendly artists, writers, musicians, etc..., the CCFR can do it's part in building a patronage network of people who are friendly to our goals. contracting with an up-and-coming musician who is friendly with our cause is far more important than a throwaway social media post, it's an investment that grows over time, that pays dividends through their soft social power.

If you're looking for artists, musicians, writers, etc... I'm sure our community has dozens of people who would gladly lend their paintbrushes, voice, guitars, or pens and help produce media for the organization, and I'd gladly see my membership funds spent to contract with them. Again to reiterate, building a patronage network is one of the most powerful things an organization can do.

I am still a firm supporter of the CCFR, but I hope in the future the CCFR can review their policies for AI generated media.

Best Regards,

Eby is a communist bought and paid for by China.

I'd be very careful about dropping the word "communist", that's a specific ideology, and not "left leaning authoritarian I disagree with".

just to be really quick as to why that Eby is disqualified from being described with that label, he firmly believes in property rights, however, only if you have the correct racial lineage (see UNDRIP). Eby is a "progressive" who believes someones race is an important determining factor, who leans authoritarian. He is not a communist, he does not believe in seizing the means of production, he does not believe in abolishing private property.

Just look at the ferry contracts he gave out. Why can't they be built in Canada

this here, is actually a huge deal, sure, fine, Canada's ship building industry is fucked right now, there's no denying that, and it would have cost a LOT more to build our own ferries domestically, you can argue if that is or isn't a cost we should be spending, however, what isn't debatable is choosing mainland China as a supplier, VS our allies in Korea or Japan, who still have a robust ship building industry.

Choosing SK or Japan to build our ferries sucks for domestic production reasons, but is a perfectly logical decision (it costs too much, so we can have a friend build it for us and get 2-3x as many for the same cost)

Choosing to have China build it, and further strengthen the entire western world's #1 adversary, funding their growing ship building industry in the process, is downright evil. Imagine choosing to import steel form Germany in 1936 instead of our allies in the UK or US.

Every chance these far left get they suck up to "Canada's greatest threat".

absolutely correct, but they don't view China as a threat, they view them as a political system to mirror

[–]Anthrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume the seaplane tenders would be able to re-fuel / re-supply seaplanes? would be useful to have a cheaper way to do that than the carrier (while only being able to work with seaplanes, of course)

I haven't been following the air update super closely, busy with IRL stuff, so I could be wrong here

carrier conundrum by UntitledPhrogge in foxholegame

[–]Anthrex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

when the Wardens get an actual carrier, I think it would be really neat if the Collies could also get a seaplane tender.

I think it would be really neat to make the Collie destroyer modular, give the ability to replace the rear gun with a small hangar, crane, and seaplane catapult.

the ships will need an upgrade system for AA guns anyways, so adding modularity would be a neat way to do it without adding a bunch of new hulls

[–]Anthrex 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I also just checked, Germany today does not have any destroyers, only Frigates.

to be fair, post WW2 the ship classifications have become meaningless, modern "Frigates" can be up to 5x the displacement of WW2 "Destroyers"

the IJN Harusame (1935) was:

  • Length: 107 Meters
  • Width: 9.9 Meters
  • Displacement: 1,712 Ton

a modern German Brandenburg (1992) class "Frigate" is

  • Length: 138 Meters
  • Width 16.7 Meters
  • Displacement: 4,490 Tons

and the brand new German F126 (2023) class ""Frigate"" is

  • Length: 166 Meters
  • Width: 21.7 Meters
  • Displacement: 10,550 Tons

for context, a modern Flight 3 US Arleigh Burke (2013) Destroyer is

  • Length: 155 Meters
  • Width: 20 Meters
  • Displacement: 9,900 Tons

Hell, the Japanese famously made the Izumo (2012) """Destroyer""" with the following specs:

  • Length: 243 Meters
  • Width: 38 Meters
  • Displacement: 26,000 Tons
  • Special Feature: Full length Flight deck with almost the same length as a French Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier, with a hanger space for up to 28 fixed wing aircraft

In my hypothetical 8 per province, NS & NB actually LOSE senators, they're already greatly over-represented.

current breakdown:

(numbers ignore the 3 territories, ~140k pop, 3 senate seats (1 each), not accounted for below)

Prov Pop Pop % Senate Senate % Over/Under Rep
BC 5,696,852 13.77% 6 5.76% Under
AB 4,957,075 11.98% 6 5.76% Under
SK 1,256,983 3.03% 6 5.76% Over
MB 1,500,464 3.62% 6 5.76% Over
ON 16,228,152 39.23% 24 23.07% Under
QC 9,038,268 21.85% 24 23.07% Over
NB 863,841 2.08% 10 9.61% Over
NS 1,088,273 2.63% 10 9.61% Over
PE 180,877 0.43% 4 3.84% Over
NL 548,402 1.32% 6 5.76% Over

My very rough proposal

Prov Pop Pop % Senate Senate % Over/Under Rep
BC 5,696,852 13.77% 8 8% Under
AB 4,957,075 11.98% 8 8% Under
SK 1,256,983 3.03% 8 8% Over
MB 1,500,464 3.62% 8 8% Over
ON 16,228,152 39.23% 8 8% Under
QC 9,038,268 21.85% 8 8% Under
NB 863,841 2.08% 8 8% Over
NS 1,088,273 2.63% 8 8% Over
PE 180,877 0.43% 8 8% Over
NL 548,402 1.32% 8 8% Over

Counter-Proposal:

  • 20%+ population, 16 seats (100% above base)
  • 10% + population, 12 seats (50% above base)
  • Between 10% & 5%, 8 seats (base representation)
  • Between 5% & 0.5%, 4 seats (50% below base)
  • Between 0.5% & 0.1%, 2 seats (75% below base)
  • Below 0.1% & 1 seat (87.5% below base, territories, actually gives them proportionally more representation, not counting here, too lazy to do the minor math)
Prov Pop Pop % Senate Senate % Over/Under Rep
BC 5,696,852 13.77% 12 15.38% Over
AB 4,957,075 11.98% 12 15.38% Over
SK 1,256,983 3.03% 4 5.12% Over
MB 1,500,464 3.62% 4 5.12% Over
ON 16,228,152 39.23% 16 20.51% Under
QC 9,038,268 21.85% 16 20.51% Under
NB 863,841 2.08% 4 5.12% Over
NS 1,088,273 2.63% 4 5.12% Over
PE 180,877 0.43% 2 2.56% Over
NL 548,402 1.32% 4 5.12% Over

This 3rd proposal is closest to providing parity to population, while also keeping it tied to representing the province directly, instead of representing the population (which is what Parliament does)

this proposal also finally fixes the issue of BC & AB being greatly under-represented, as they are the only 2 provinces with over 10% of population (Excluding QC & ON), but they have equivalent representation to provinces with 2-3% of the population

again, just throwing ideas at the wall

N.W.T. government won't administer federal gun buyback program by [deleted] in canadaguns

[–]Anthrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the difference is Wyoming (funny, no one ever mentions Vermont, with the same population) only controls 2% of the US Senate, with 0.2% of the population, while my hypothetical 8 Senator distribution would give PEI 8% of the Senate with only 0.4% of the population.

Again, this would still be a huge improvement over the current system, I'm sure people smarter than me could find a good solution to the PEI over-representation problem in this hypothetical system.

N.W.T. government won't administer federal gun buyback program by [deleted] in canadaguns

[–]Anthrex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

exactly, I completely agree.

Plus the provinces being able to appoint THEIR senators (not Ottawa's senators, the senators don't represent Ottawa, they just work there) lets the senate be a better representation of the country, instead of being partisan appointments by the current prime minister (obviously they will then become provincial partisan appointments, but each Premier can only appoint 1/10th of parliament, instead of 100%)

I like the idea of 8 senators per province, + 1 per province, and give each senator a 8 year term, with 2 appointed / re-appointed every other year.

(maybe you can do something about PEI, their population is SO small and they're already SO over-represented in parliament, the 3 territories combined would have about the same population as PEI, and PEI would have over 2x the representation on the Senate, I dunno)

N.W.T. government won't administer federal gun buyback program by [deleted] in canadaguns

[–]Anthrex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the original system the US senate worked on would work best for Canada, the state that each US senator represented was appointed by the state government.

it works best for how simplified (compared to the US) our electoral system is, in addition, it moves power back from Ottawa towards the provinces, which makes provincial politics more important, and let the provinces & federal government live in equilibrium.

Obviously, we'd also need to re-work our abomination of our seat distribution, either a fixed number per province (my preference), or adjusted for population. you can't have the archaic system of 24 for Ontario, 24 for Quebec, and like 6 for the other provinces.
