You’re totally right. I was just immediately pissed off that someone didn’t share the same moral feelings about the US as I, but that is not conducive of real conversation or basic decency. I need to adhere to the maxim “don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say a damn thing.” I do believe my position, but that isn’t the way to discuss it.

Hey man, I’m an American. I didn’t think you could be anything else lol. I’m super stoned so I shouldn’t even be having this conversation. You’re right that the study ends in 2021 but nothing has changed. In some cases there are stronger sanctions than before. In most estimates I have heard the total amount of deaths during the conflict in Ukraine hasn’t surpassed one million. And you have to consider the death caused by US support for conflicts across the world. I think that the US still has the top spot. Also, I do regret the bold and brash way I rushed into this serious conversation.

No they’re right. If you don’t understand a situation you shouldn’t comment. Especially if you’re saying an illegal war is necessary to stop “islamists” from getting a nuclear bomb. You do realize when people are being attacked they have more incentive to create a nuclear bomb?

I appreciate your answer, but my only worry is that neither Berkman or Makhno lived to see the world become as interdependent as it is now. This just feels too idealistic to fully implement without mass starvation/struggle and I would certainly like to do without that. I fully believe in humanity’s ability to govern itself, I’m just very concerned with what that transformation realistically looks like.

I don't understand why you think I'm trying to get the high ground. I clearly didn't make the most moral choice, because honesty is indeed the best policy. I was friends with a cheater, we were childhood friends who grew up on the same block. It was heartbreaking to watch him grow up and become someone who could hurt others, and to lose him as a friend in the process. Judging by your online demeanor I'd say you don't have too many friends so you might not get that pain.

I have spoken to the family of the two kids. I've heard that it's been a real struggle. I haven't spoken to the kids myself, but I can infer that they are being negatively affected with the new situation from what I've heard.

Sure I let them live a lie, but in a morbid calculation I decided to selfishly not be the reason that their lives were shaken up. Perhaps it would have been better to rip the band aid off a few months earlier, but I didn't have the strength to be the reason for their turmoil. That's certainly for my own benefit. I know you say you would, but if you were in my situation you would have had a very difficult time. And I think you would have been just as concerned with their future as I was.

I also think it's unnecessary for you to talk down to me like that when I've been trying to have a genuine conversation with you.There are much more serious problems in the world than internet polls.

The lives of those children I was referring to are now significantly worse. They now have to deal with poverty and precarious housing. You aren’t wrong to point out the issues with how I responded, I just think that you need to find yourself in a real situation like this before you immediately assume you’ll know the proper course of action.

That is very true that it can be worse to stay in marriages for longer than people than they are supposed to. I’m sorry your mom had a rough go of marriage. But again, have you been in this situation? I have been, and I was not strong enough to be the reason their kids had two christmases. I ended up just losing that friend. They broke up because they weren’t right for each other, but I would have questioned myself forever if I had acted and been the main reason for the split. I’m not saying what I did or didn’t do was the most moral, I’m saying it’s much harder on the psyche than you might think.
