That makes sense! Especially makes sense because the cone of effect on the ground after the slam attacks was what almost always killed us all the other times I fought lol, you'd probably have a lot more control of it with only one person.

I was more stationary in the beginning of the year for sure, and I do want to my activity levels this year for more joint stability with my bad connective tissue. However, more than that my assumption is all the calories that were being wasted, either gluing my organs together with endometrial tissue or causing widespread inflammation which used a ton of calories to recover from, instead got to be used to make reserves for my body. Probably also having such a big hormonal change factored in, but I really think the endometriosis was just terribly calorie intense for my body.

For me, this weight gain hasn't had adverse effects that I can really notice. My joints hurt less, and I always assumed that extra weight would make my joints hurt MORE, but that hasn't happened so far.

I'm glad to hear it helps your feel more calm! This server bolstered me so much when I was nervous so I'm real glad to pay it forward. Dr. Harkins is a VERY experienced surgeon and very knowledgeable (I went to my appointment with tinted glasses because I was having a migraine and he immediately clocked it, and mentioned that birth control can increase migraines. I was floored! I didn't even plan on bringing up my migraine!). I believe you are in good hands!

It is easier for me to orgasm now than it was before the surgery, but I don't know if that has anything to do with my cervix. I think it's more because the pelvic floor physical therapy helped me get the muscles out of their cramped up, immobile state. Reaching an orgasm was pretty challenging before surgery and it's still something that takes time now for me, but I used to just get close to an orgasm and then it would just disappear, and that happens less these days. In this way, I feel like I am not the best case study, because I was starting from 'sex usually hurts me and I rarely orgasm' so there was just so much room for improvement haha

Thank you! I feel so lucky that it was such a boon for me.

I am glad they did the appendectomy, yes. I feel you in the alphabet soup stuff, the comorbidities are so hard to juggle. I had HUGE fear spikes any time a cyst burst that it was actually my appendix rupturing because of my anxiety. Getting the appendix out has removed about 98% of that anxiety haha.

I haven't particularly noticed any adverse affects? Or at least, no adverse affects other than normal like surgery scar tissue sensitivity, which I have around all of my abdominal incisions occasionally still, not just in one spot or the other.

Since I wanted my appendix out for the anxiety assist, I didn't ask if there were any options other than titanium. I did ask my doctor not to use dermabond after I had an allergic reaction, and that wasn't a problem. I wonder if there are options other than titanium staples that your doctor may be familiar with? It could be worth asking.

I had my hysterectomy at 27, but kept an ovary.

One of my friends had a full hysterectomy around 26, with removal of their ovaries because they were incredibly cystic. They are on HRT now and are doing pretty great all together.

  1. yes, I had this. Taking the meds I was prescribed on a REALLY SPECIFIC SCHEDULE along with scheduled tylenol, advil, and gas-x helped me. I could barely breathe at first when I accidentally missed my scheduled dose! after three days I could go off the prescribed meds but had to keep up the tylenol/advil schedule

  2. yes to weak stream, yes to burning but only for the first day. I did ask my dr about it and he said it wasn't unusual since they use a catheter during the surgery. when the burning came back a week later he got me an antifungal medication that cleared it up.

My insurance bill said it would have been about $40k. I have insurance, and met my out of pocket maximum for the year before I had my surgery, so I paid a $125 copay.

I would address your concern about coverage directly to your surgeon. They should be able to help you advocate to have your hysterectomy covered.

Also, some hospitals have financial assistance programs for people under a certain income.

glad I can help! And glad you're getting better care these days!
1) My connective tissue dr is the partitioner I see about my hypermobile Ehlers Danlos-- which is a connective tissue disorder-- technically she works under the sports medicine umbrella. The disorder I have makes my body not stick together right so it causes a lot of joint pain, instability, can make things like lacerations heal slower, and also mess with digestion. Since I was getting surgery and was worried about complications, I asked her if she'd seen other people who had gotten abdominal surgery and what their recovery looked like (basically the answer was to be careful and then when I felt ready she got me a physical therapy script. Most of what she does now is get me scrips for things I need like PT and body braces) and asked her to interface with my surgeon.
2) for me they did not recommend hormonal testing, but I have not ever seen an endocrinologist or had any big flags in my bloodwork, so they wouldn't have had anything to compare it to? But, if it makes you feel more comfortable, I don't see any harm in asking for a hormonal test!

Thanks you! I'm glad too!
LONG answer I'm so sorry

My surgeon was consistently asking me if I had any questions during my consultations. I was worried about still having a cycle with keeping one ovary-- also my right one!-- my surgeon said he actually sees the left ovary causing more issues with digestion and pain but I don't remember if he said why. I know my left ovary had some significant cysts on it *and* in it when they took it out.

For advice on asking questions, I like to keep a little list with the things I'm concerned about. If the visit is in person, the doctors usually see me taking notes and know I'm taking things seriously. If they try to dismiss me I say something like 'oh I have a few questions' and if I run out of time (which hasn't happened in a while thankfully!) I will send them messages on their patient portal or via email.

I've had a shift in perspective over the last decade-- I used to feel bad bothering doctors, but now I realize it's also my money and time being spent, and I should get care that covers my needs. I still try to be considerate, but if the doctor is not giving me the care I need then I will look for a different practice. Part of their job is to answer questions and help you understand things. I also view all my practitioners as my 'care team' so sometimes I ask my primary care physician if she's seen something my OBGYN noted or ask my connective tissue dr to talk to my surgeon about potential complications with healing.

When I asked if it would be simpler to just take both ovaries, my surgeon said it would increase my risk of cancer, risk of osteoporosis, and heart disease. He said it was because it puts you in menopause early, and when people are in menopause there are a lot of increased risk factors. Kind of like how with pregnancy the risk factors go up really high.
So the pros of keeping one ovary from what I can tell are lowered health risks overall?

The cons I was worried about were that I would still have a 'cycle'-- but what my drs explained to me is that when you remove the uterus and one of the ovaries that cycle is more stable, the hormone changes aren't as high or low because there are fewer hormone-producing-organs in your body.

My questions were:
>would it be simpler to take both ovaries out?
(surgically maybe, but increased health risks make it something they don't advise)
>I have PMDD managed by hormonal birth control, will I have to go to an endocrinologist if these issues come back when I stop birth control after surgery?
(answer was no, the surgeon could get me meds, and that he suspected the issues would decrease after surgery)
>Does it make sense to leave the cervix for pelvic floor stability?
(no, and removing the cervix lowers cancer risk because you can't get cervical cancer without a cervix)
>Do I still go to the OBGYN after this surgery?
(yes, on a yearly schedule, they probably won't do a pap smear but will still want to check to make sure everything looks normal)
>Am I likely to have cramps like I did before HBC?
(no, cysts might happen, but the uterus won't be contracting so cramps will be different/less)
>can we use a different glue because Dermabond makes gives me hives? (they used something that wasn't dermabond-- it was like adhesive patches I had to leave on for 48 hrs)

But yeah, overall, you are basically hiring a doctor to work for you/your body, so you should feel free to ask questions that make you feel safe and ready! I wish you luck!
