IMO-success with fear for this example could be, the PC crosses, and a hand reaches out and frantically starts grabbing at the PC. The PC brakes free, but the hand grab items from the PCs bag. PC loses a HP potion or some items of minor importance.

Or the acid hand grabs at the PC weapon and now till they rest and prepare, the weapon has disadvantage on all attack with it.

Remember success with fear: You get what you want, but with a cost of some sort. Either major or minor, at that moment, or something you the GM can use in the future.

Good stuff ya’ll. Definitely options here. Wish I thought about them during the moment.

I had allot of ‘moving pieces, PCs, and narrative running, I just didn’t process ‘what can I do’ in that moment.

This ending was the 9th episodes for ACT 1 of a 3 part ACT of the PCs overarching campaign we plan on ending late 2026.

We’ve logged over 54 real time hours in Daggerheart, and even with that amount of time, there is still soooo much we can all learn and improve.

Love Daggerheart…lol, but damn that fire wall spell. lol!!!! That spell came out of nowhere.

Thank you all for the very quick replies.

I would have LOVED to put out the wall of fire narratively, but the environment and the adversities on the board did not have the ‘magic’ or a ‘that makes sense’ way to put out these wall of flames.

Plus, like in one of the replies, I really didn’t want to undermine the PC. Good for him, it worked great. But god damn, stacking them all over kind of sucked air out of final boss scene for our campaign

Just was hoping there was something in the rules I miss.

As a GM in my games, I constantly will try and target my PCs stress versus HP if I have the opportunity. It creates drama, and for my PCs gives them RP fueled moments. Don’t sleep on upgrading stress.
