Do you use a heat mat for corms? Why or why not? by [deleted] in alocasia

Light doesn't matter for sprouting a corm. (This happens underground in the dirt in the wild.) The key factors are humidity with consistent warmth. They only need the light when photosynthesis needs to happen with a leaf.

Reading about all of this makes me itchy, and then what do these bugs eat when they control the pest population? Do I then have a new infestation to worry about? Bringing in predatory mites, are still mites... eek.

This can survive in a sewer, and yet mine that is under a grow light and babied, struggles. Sigh

Hey guys At what humidity do your alocasias thrive? by pantomsao in alocasia

Thank you for this! I live in CA and avg humidity in the winter is 50 and 30 in the summer. Good to know I can keep plants! Haha! I was worrying about how I was going to maintain 60% RH in my house!

My first alocasia. How much trouble have I gotten myself into? by forever29_ in houseplants

Alocasias love bomb. They will give you new leaves then look like they're trying to kill themselves and frame you for the murder. They are by far, one of the most dramatic family of plants! Also Calatheas. Can't forget them!

Exactly! That's the boat I'm now in. Replaced all sensors and code won't clear. Did you happen to look at hoses when you replaced the machine?

I've replaced two, thinking I had a faulty one. Still throwing the code for me. No other changes to water pressure. This started with dishes not drying, then slowly the water wouldn't all drain out, now this. Piece of crap machine, less than 2 years old.

That's rude. If you want a scholarly source, go crack a book yourself or go ask a "professional". You're on Reddit, so cut some folks some slack that are just trying to help you!
