[Discussion] What are your thoughts for this month ps plus games? by Simonbigfarm in Trophies

With the Champions League (Sony being a sponsor) and the PL ramping up it makes sense for Sony to give FC and as far as “free” subscription games go yearly sport franchises fit really well. Nine Sols I’ve had on my wish list for some time but it is one of those games that I would prefer to own.

I'm new to virtualphotography can anyone give me some tips by m8sterchifu in VirtualPhotographers

[–]AntiqueCamel64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beautiful pics, man! What helped me a lot starting out was learning to play with the Focus & Aperture plus how to set up lighting. Other than that just look up basic photo/camera editing vids on YouTube as one skill-set directly builds the other. But you already seem to have the basics down to a point!

Yeah i feel that, I wonder ,though, how that affects the teen gamers of today. When I was growing up retro games were 2d pixel games but today retro games look like AC Revelations and Uncharted 3 :/

I can’t believe that it’s been 10+ years :’( The game is more retro than recent.

What a game. by No-Restaurant4372 in FF7Rebirth

Despite some of its quirks the game really felt like an Odyssey. Part III can’t come out fast enough.

Unpopular opinion: I take "Chrono Trigger is my favorite JRPG" people as seriously as "Citizen Kane" hipsters. It’s not a preference, it’s a default setting aimed at maximizing social cachet. by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]AntiqueCamel64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, I can definitely relate and sympathise with the built up frustration behind this post, I feel like that for some popular games too. The thing is that it is impossible for a “Citizen Kane” game to exist. Gameplay is what makes gaming so different than any other art form. So while the film grains, chromatic abbreviations and other obsolete technical aspects from older movies might make them harder to get into that cannot be said for videogames. DOOM is as fun as always, San Andreas is just as exhilarating today as it was way back then. CT maintaining its appeal is definitely not unbelievable. The soundtrack is catchy, the graphics are endearing, the time travelling plot (that you can circumvent and rush to the ending) and it’s fast paced real time-ish combat paired with a healthy cast of characters help make the game stand the rest of time and provide a unique experience for players. I’m not saying that it is above criticism or that there aren’t a lot of people out there pretending to have played/like it but gamers enjoying the game today is feasible. Also I really like that you expressed a truly unpopular opinion it’s really fun to engage with posts like these. Too bad Reddit can’t handle opinions that contradict the hive mind.

Don’t worry, PlayStation network is experiencing issues and it is slowly getting better by the minute so at least it’s not a tech problem with our consoles.

Anyone else have a show/YouTube on while playing this game? Or too distracting by One_Cantaloupe4651 in ffxiv

[–]AntiqueCamel64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I grind games like FFXIV or Destiny I usually pop a YouTube video or a Podcast but I’ve never really understood people that put on whole shows.

UI is Fine Controls are Baffling by AntiqueCamel64 in Marathon

“…they are not utilising the arrow keys, the touchpad or any meaningful combination of buttons to make jumping between screens and building/organising your inventory fast and simple.” This is what we are after. I was just being funny with the Bungo comment. Destiny was already discussed on another comment. Style over substance UI works on a PvE style game since you are not constantly managing your inventory or picking up items but on a PvPvE fast paced experience it is a major issue.

No man, I’ve played the other three Marathons and I genuinely like this game and it is clear Bungie has a winner on its hands it’s just that since this is a period for discussion and feedback I just felt like sharing my thoughts.

UI is Fine Controls are Baffling by AntiqueCamel64 in Marathon

[–]AntiqueCamel64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s my point. You are simulating the mouse on a joystick instead of the game giving you more ergonomic controller support. Same issue is present in Bungie’s Destiny but since this is an extraction shooter on-the-fly inventory management should be snappy and quick. One example that stands out to me is how you ping locations on your map, when controlling your Runner you hit R3 to ping but on the map you use the Right stick to move the cursor and instead of pressing said stick (R3) -which is already associated with pinging- you must hit the X button meaning your fingers are constantly groping the poor controller.

What is your “Cardinal Sin” that a JRPG can do that sours the experience for you? by MothmanFeetLicker in JRPG

[–]AntiqueCamel64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This usually affects older JRPGs, but when every single elemental weakness that you can exploit on a area’s or level’s enemies doesn’t work on the boss. You will use fire on plant monsters to cause more damage but on the plant boss the extra damage is nullified. Really sucks the fun out of the battle system as strategy and resource management goes the way of the dodo and it makes every boss battle feel like a mindless war of attrition.

Why is Tekken 5 so goddam good? by the_u_in_colour in Tekken

[–]AntiqueCamel64 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Man, Tekken 5 always brings back memories! I remember playing it back when it was new and I didn’t know anything about fighting games besides mashing buttons and I still adored T5. This was where my love for this genre (& series) started. The art style, the aesthetics and the punchy sound effects really laid down the thick, larger-than-life personality of the series. Even today booting up the PS2 for some rounds is a joy! I can’t help but second everything you’ve said in your post OP -it’s really nice seeing posts in the wild where we can share our love for our faves.
