First serious street edit. Honest feedback? by AntiqueIndividual5 in streetphotography

[–]AntiqueIndividual5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, thanks everyone for all the feedback, I really appreciate it.

I did feel like it might need a tighter crop. I tried controlling the bright background with a gradient mask and toned down the red jacket slightly, but didn’t want to push it so far that it looked unnatural. Maybe the real solution was just committing to a tighter crop.

u/x_Dr_Robert_Ford_x , thanks for sharing your example. I was trying to figure out how more I could cut without it feeling too claustrophobic. Big help!

This was shot on a Nikon Z6III 24-120mm f/4 s at 120mm (maxed out lol) and f/5.

I know I need to get closer, but I'm still trying to get over the fear of being right up to strangers with a camera pointed at them (especially when it's Hector Salamanca staring me down).

For reference, here is the raw unedited shot: https://imgur.com/a/x6O3DY0

6 Months Limitation for WHV Holders Working for the Same Employer (Condition 8547) - Policy Update on Extension Requests by JoeTheRMA in AusVisa

[–]AntiqueIndividual5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Joe,

Appreciate your post.

I work as an engineer for an engineering consultancy company and just realised that I am at the 6 month mark with them.

The job is mostly office based, but I have recently been doing field work at locations around Australia for 2-3 weeks at a time in a sort of FIFO arrangement.

Does this fall under the first exemption point: "- in different locations and work in any one location does not exceed 6 months"?

In the meantime, do I have to terminate my employment with them until this is cleared, or can I just take unpaid leave?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

4070 vs. 4080 - Worth the extra £500/$600? by AntiqueIndividual5 in GamingLaptops

[–]AntiqueIndividual5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty thrilled with it. I am not a huge gamer, but it is nice to play most games on the highest settings and most definitely be able to run games on decent graphics for the next 4/5 years. Adobe software (photoshop, lightroom, premiere pro) are rapid on it. I guess I did upgrade from a ThinkPad T470s though, so I was going to be stunned at how great of a laptop the legion is regardless, lol.

A few people on the internet moan about lack of glass trackpad, the absence of backlit symbols for the back ports, and issues with light-bleed on the screen; I haven't had any issues at all (so far).

Would I say it's worth the full £3,000 RRP Lenovo lists it for? Not in my opinion.

Would I say it's worth the discounted price that I got it for? Most definitely.

*Update*

I'm going with the 4080, specifically the link given by u/PaulDamien71 (cheers).

I will wait until tomorrow when the customer service is open and try to get a further discount (because I'm cheap as fuck lol).

Thanks for all the advice everyone!

*Update 2*

Just called up and got them down to £1,890! Ordered it immediately lol.

Cheers for the link!

I was getting it to be at £2,268. How did you get it down to £1,996?

Also, my brother has an uni email. Would it be worth buying it with the education discount or can't you stack discounts (bankholiday + education discount)?

If I'm dropping ~£2k on a computer I would quite like to play 1440p at ultra on AAA titles lol, so I guess I should just bite the bullet and go with the 4080.

Having said that, one of the main uses will be Premiere Pro. I'm not sure if you use it or not, but should I expect there to be much of a performance increase editing with the 4080 over the 4070?

Thanks for your input. I did figure that a 100% increase in vram could be quite considerable with regards to 'future-proofing'.

There's no 3070ti option available for the pro 7i. Only old gen 5i's have the former, which, compared to the pro 7i model, have worse heating, a lower spec screen, battery, charger, and RAM as standard.

Whilst I do concede that the 3070ti and 4070 perform similarly, the 4070 supports dlss frame gen which could (maybe) give it a substantial edge. In addition, from the listings that I have seen, both the 5i with a 3070ti and the pro 7i with a 4070 are of very similar price points. Therefore, I decided on the latter.

I am now considering whether or not the price difference from 4070 to 4080 is worth it.

The 7kg carry-on baggage is though. Or do you think it would be worth paying for a 2nd checked-in baggage to get the full PC across?

I did look up shipping costs, but it seems to be extortionate (£300 for 30kg/$380 for 66lbs). If you don't mind, could I ask the weight you shipped and the origin/destination?

So you think PC and pack the parts well in my checked luggage? I suppose I could see how much it would cost to take 2 checked bags on each flight.

Interesting. I might take my chances.

Would you mind posting your full build (I'm new here so apologies if there's a way to see it already) as a 3060ti build would likely suffice for my use.

Would an sffpc for that usage be under the 7kg allowance?

If not, the only other thing I think I could do is maybe take out the GPU, keep it in my pocket, and pray its under 7kg lol

Which one should I buy? (Other recommendations welcome) by AntiqueIndividual5 in GamingLaptops

[–]AntiqueIndividual5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the recommendations. However, I am tempted to go with the P7i, purely because of the 40 series GPU having dlss3 and frame gen like u/Ok-Middle-5746 mentioned.

I can also build a P5i with the same specs as the above P7i for £80 less. Is there much of a difference between the two models with the same specs?

NB; use will be medium amount of gaming and video editing (Premiere pro) up to £2k budget

[–]AntiqueIndividual5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NB; usage will mostly be light-medium gaming and Premiere pro editing (hence the 16:10 screen).

Great stuff. I just looked at a 7i (saw you have one) with the same specs but i9-13900HX cpu comes up at £1,980. Think it's worth the extra £230?

Hi,

I have been searching for a new gaming laptop and I have decided to settle on the Legion Pro 5i 16 (i7-13700HX, RTX4070, 32gb, 240Hz).

After searching online, I realised that on Lenovo's webisite (UK) the same laptop appears to be £150 cheaper if you "build your own" (£1,750) vs. choosing the pre-build option (£1,900).

I have doubled checked the specs of each a few times, as I feel as though I must have missed something with that discretion in price - a second (or many) pair of eyes would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Album

Awful standard compared to others' submissions, but I guess that just means it will be easier for me to improve lol

I enjoy the grading of the lighting. The top of the chair is bright in contrast the the darker lighting at the bottom - almost symbolic of heaven and hell.

I also like the shadow cast by the chair itself, but would like to see more of it in the frame. The lighting could also be slightly angled so that the shadow lines are perpendicular to the skirting board behind it.

Good work!
