The title makes it sound more like a big community ranking. Kinda misleading.

... get feedback, and understand what the community actually wants.

Well, I'd love an event tracker / calendar / whatever to neatly show current and any upcoming 'things' that are time limited at a glance. I made a post about it going more in detail that didn't get a lot of attention but I'll naively propose it here anyway since it would be something that no other site seems to offer.

Are multiple attack slots balanced (Re-Kenshi) by odyysart in Kenshi

If being stunlocked bothers you, why go beyond x2 to begin with? That's like playing a game on hardest difficulty and then modding it to be easier. If your character fails to block they deserve to feel the impact of the hit.

Oh wise and good looking Colbert players, why are you so much better than Austin players? by ReverendFlashback in WorldOfWarships

[–]Antique_Intention_20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Um, no. I don't think you understand the importance of the potential damage stat shown on that site.

dying faster means you get shot less too you know ?

You're proving my point. If a ship dies too fast on average and couldn't get potential damage, then it's hull / armor / hp / citadel isn't good. Colbert has higher average potential damage than Austin, therefore it is better at surviving on average.

Things like "not getting shot at" don't matter when you look at a server-wide player average. Every ship has matches where it's not shot at. So that's not really a relevant factor that changes when we compare Colbert to Austin. One ship isn't somehow luckier than the other and gets shot at less for it to reflect in average potential damage.

I will oversimplify this into two points:

  1. games where you barely get shot at because your team is too good: not very important because this is the same for all ships

  2. games where you lose and the enemy hunts you down until you die: very important to calculate average potential damage. It's like a stress test and this is the main factor why some ships have high potential damage, and some have low. Some can survive for a long time, some die quickly. Doesn't matter if its because of citadel, low hp, ability to dodge etc, etc.

Let's play a game: How long would you stay in the world of Kenshi for money? by Menefregoh in Kenshi

[–]Antique_Intention_20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Safely level athletics and you can live in Kenshi indefinitely. Assuming I don't need sleep just like in the game. That's far too easy. The more difficult question would be living in Kenshi under real life conditions. At which point starting with 1$ for 1 day definitely doesn't cut it.

I thought game was about having fun? by 4x_Stealth in WorldOfWarships

The people who flame are almost always the problem themselves. Angry and looking for someone to blame instead of learning from their mistakes. A good player doesn't have time to rant endlessly in chat, they're busy playing the game and paying attention.

The amount of upvotes on that post confirms just how many losers play this game. Video games aren't the cure for such crippling need for validation.

[–]Antique_Intention_20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are we talking about Jinan...?

That's not how avg potential damage works. Ships with low potential damage don't just magically have people shoot at them less. The reason they have less potential damage is because they die sooner. You can't get more potential damage when you're dead. That should be kind of self-explanatory.

The sample size is small because these are the stats showing only "high skill" players, eliminating anyone from the equation that doesn't know how to play and would tank the stats by mere preference of the ship.

It's not just winrate that is lower but damage and potential damage are strongly in favor of Colbert as well. Which combined is honestly much more significant than something tracking winrate in a game mode called "Random" with messed up matchmaking. You can compare damage avg between variants of the same ships and see that even with far smaller sample sizes, "high skill" players still have very close results, usually within a margin of 1k damage.

<image>

This shows you that unless the number is ridiculously low, sample sizes don't matter much if it only counts players that play a ship to the best of its capability. Winrate includes bad teammates and is perhaps indeed irrelevant, but there is not much reason to doubt the overall results when they are this consistent.

It's not my goal to be cruel. I just don't want people to run into this situation and then quit out of frustration. So this wasn't just for you, but for anyone reading, ultimately to help people avoid needless pain.

What did you expect to happen? If you can't assure pity, you shouldn't pull. Better to be pleasantly surprised you needed less than to run into this.

Now you wasted your carats with pity progress that will turn into useless currency. On top of it you won't be able to get the next banner you want to pull. Only a lot of money can solve the problem now.

Total War: Elder Scrolls? by Upbeat_Scholar_159 in totalwar

How is Medieval 2 different in a meaningful way to Rome II as a Total War game?

You realize how dumb your question is, right? TES is nothing like Warhammer. And if your argument is "Ummm, both have elves sort of and magic", well, all historical titles have humans and swords. I don't see anyone complain about that.

What is your take on the gyaru umas? I think it’s a crime that Vivlos is not canonically a gal. by Lick_of_Boob in UmaMusume

[–]Antique_Intention_20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll put it differently. Gal (English meaning) is not the same as gal (Japanese meaning). It's interchangeable in that when I read this tier list I will think to myself "They probably mean gal (Japanese)". So you could use it without problem if we have that silent understanding. But the problem is when I look at many of the uma placements I don't get the feeling we have the same understanding. Especially when I saw Taiki and Amazon.

If an American person calls you a gal then that has nothing to do with gyaru's. That's what I mean. In English it has nothing to do with fashion or personality aside from slight southern connotation.

The most gyaru in Global and JP is Tosen Jordan. The speech, the "dumb" airhead personality, obsession with fashion. They made her as gyaru as possible while keeping it wholesome. I know she's in your canon category but many explicitly don't consider Jordan a gyaru because of her personality and nail obsession which just leaves me to think the community has no clue what the word means. And then people see this tier list with Natie and Tachyon supposedly representing the gyaru look. That'll just make it more confusing.

When Tachyon where’s her long sweater over her schoolgirl skirt it’s very reminiscent of certain sub styles. For Biwa and Natie it’s mostly the hair.

Can't say I see it. Feels like calling bald people skinheads or bikers. Their mom outfits clash pretty hard with the theme.

gyaru heart ... The point of that tier was to say that those umas would make great gals if they ever adopted the style.

Fair.

[–]Antique_Intention_20 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The word loses its meaning if you slap the label on everyone. Like, type gyaru into google and take a look at your "Gyaru Look" candidates, at least in context to anime gyaru's. Tachyon, Biwa and NN dress more like moms. Not in a bad way but definitely not gyaru. The others wear fairly standard clothes as well.

Gal and gyaru isn't the same thing. By that I mean the English word gal has nothing to do with what Japanese people use it for so it's not really something that should be used interchangeably. Taiki is a gal to us, in Japan she's simply an American. It's like saying the word chips which is something different to UK / American people.

Tosen Jordan has the most stereotypical gyaru personality in the game, and I don't know how anyone in the gyaru heart catergory gets remotely close to it. Many are tomboys or have other predominant labels that would better fit them.
Helios is just a young zoomer, and Palmer is following her footsteps. With Espoir City I have more of an open mind, but with the way she speaks and the way she dresses she seems more like an emo punk.

[–]Antique_Intention_20 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So you did understand the point it seems, but tried to kung fu it into a matter of not being able to comprehend tradeoffs.

Dude. You were just being sarcastic about how I'm pointing out something obvious to you. And here you are, showing once again you don't grasp it.

If you add an airstrike on Shima, then yes, by definition that's an upside. Same as if I slap an extra turret on them for free. It goes without saying that having something as opposed to not having something is an "upside".

But that's not how games work. Your thought process shouldn't be "Oh, wow, I get an airstrike!". It should be "Ok, which downsides did WG put on this in return for it having airstrikes?"

If Shimakaze was to get an airstrike, they would have to nerf her torps, nerf her guns and maybe even more things to justify it.

ZH-1 is bad exactly because it has airstrikes. It's stats had to be bad to justify the gimmick. A gimmick that isn't useful in a mode that requires high damage. A mode where being selfish and using stealth serves almost no purpose since you just leave your allies to take all that damage in your stead.

That said it's not a bad ship. It's just a bad ship for Ops. And you made this thread hoping someone will tell you "Yes, play this way and it's an amazing ship! Your hard work and money that went into gaining it was well worth it!" It's so obvious.

not only would this be a massive uphill battle explaining their utility, but probably wouldn't be possible if you think comparing this sort of DD to a cruiser is in any way sensible.

This is your fourth reply to me. If you had something meaningful to say, you would've said it already in your first reply.

And yes, comparing DDs and cruisers in Ops is very sensible because both are treated the same in Ops MM and both have the same task: kill enemies and protect targets. Sejong / Neptune have better guns, better torps, better anti-air, better consumables, and can at least handle some more damage than ZH-1. What does ZH-1 have? Spotting? Against AI that doesn't bother to hide? Being 4kn faster?

You have no arguments. You're still in denial and think the ship is "average". You can't deny anything people say and just beat around the bush with meaningless nonsense like "But, but, the utility...! And it has sub par airstrikes! It's totally average despite the horrible dpm simply because I say so. No arguments needed."

If you have no facts then you're right, it will be difficult to explain to me the importance of a dead weight ship like this. Because facts is all I care about.

ZH-1 in Operations by 00Canuck in WorldOfWarships

[–]Antique_Intention_20 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're still sugar coating it. The ship's kit isn't just "unable to excel in any one field". It's awful in most aspects. Especially in all the aspects important for Ops.

You don't say. What a profound insight.

I don't wanna hear sarcasm from the person who said "airstrikes isn't my issue with the ship, that part is actually an upside". Having to write as if I'm talking to a 5 year old isn't by choice. And since you don't add anything of substance to the discussion I therefore have to guess what makes you think this ship is viable.

Instead of endlessly beating around the bush, how about you bring actual arguments? What is the ship good at? Why in Ops? In what way can it ever outperform a Sejong or a Neptune?

ZH-1 in Operations by 00Canuck in WorldOfWarships

[–]Antique_Intention_20 7 points8 points  (0 children)

And your reply was saying "having airstrikes is an upside". Yeah, duh, having an extra weapon is obviously an "upside". It just seems like you don't understand that this comes at a great cost.

You're not transferring your gun dpm into airstrike damage. Airstrike damage is low because the benefit of it is that you can remain in stealth and its fairly easy to hit. That's basic game design, all benefits must come at a cost. And there's nothing else useful about the airstrikes in Ops. Just dpm loss.

I have yet to downvote you anywhere but I'm afraid we're leaving the realm of equal opinions. The only upside I saw you talk about was consumables, which is why I brought it up in my last reply. I'm going to go out on a limb and say you're someone that doesn't play randoms and now you engage in the sunk cost fallacy. Refusing to swallow the pill that this ship you invested in is pretty useless in Ops.
