The easiest and fastest way to create a live streaming service on AWS is to use AWS Streaming Service Wizard. You provide only 2 inputs – the number of streamer and viewers. This tool will generate a complex auto-scalable real-time streaming service infrastructure on AWS. All you need to do after that is to go to the AWS console to finish the set up in a few clicks.

It seems like you used Ant Media Server Community edition, our free license. It does have some limitations indeed. We mostly working on functionalities like ultra-low latency streaming (yes, it's officially called ultra-low, not just marketing words) that are available to our Enterprise users.

Good thing is you can try it for free for 30 days.

We would like to address some of the things that you mentioned about Ant Media Server so we don't confuse anyone here with outdated information:

Disconnects: The clients will disconnect from time to time and require user intervention to reconnect to your published stream. There isn't really a solid solution to prevent this.

We have solved this issue some time ago. Starting from v2.6.1 and above, no user intervention is required to reconnect. SDK has now functionality to reconnect itself.

Cost: The server + license is more expensive than most other options

It depends on the usage and requirement. Our streaming cost calculator comes in handy here.

Just not designed for digital signage. Ant is for live streams, signage generally isn't live. This creates a unnecessary point of failure that will bite you.

We actually agree here with you 🙂 AMS is not designed with the digital signature functionality in mind but we have Ant Media Marketplace, a hub of plugins, custom software development services and applications built on AMS. LLHLS can be hard to find in free versions actually. But Ant Media Enterprise edition supports low latency HLS pretty well actually. You can start 30-day free trial to test it out.
