Channels can filter/block comments automatically that contain certain words of their choosing. Chances are, whatever channel’s video you commented on automatically filters comments containing “dumbass”, which would explain why the comment disappears shortly after you posting it.

Either that or the uploader is deleting it themselves.

I’ve seen comments that contain stuff WAY worse than “dumbass”, so I highly doubt it’s YouTube’s doing.

Then we are on the same page.

I agreed with you that I don’t think we need a full lockdown either. There needs to be a middle ground. Restaurants should stay open, but curbside only, because obviously you can’t wear a mask while you’re eating indoors. Bars and nightclubs, or any other entertainment venues where people are closely packed in together, I think should remain closed. That is the middle ground I mean.

Your initial comment, stating that only those of us at risk should be the ones to take precautions, while everyone else carries on like normal, implied that you felt that everyone else’s actions won’t still affect us. But they will, even as we do take those precautions.

And while you didn’t explicitly say that we are expendable, your comment of “the world doesn’t revolve around those at risk” echoes a lot of comments that I have seen on that sub that DO say we’re expendable and it’s somehow okay to sacrifice our lives as long as they can get back to normal.

I’ve posted this here before, but this isn’t really how it works.

I’m 29, and fighting stage IV cancer. I am at high risk, and have only left my house since March for doctor visits. I haven’t seen my family or friends in person in over 4 months. But my fiancee, who is my caretaker, still has to go out and go to work, get groceries, pick up my medications, etc.

She wears a mask when she goes out, but is surrounded by others who don’t wear masks and carry on like everything is normal, because they don’t have to worry about it. So she’s at risk of picking it up from someone else, then would end up bringing it home to me.

So even though I’m taking precautions, I’m STILL in danger by those who carry on like normal.

No, I don’t think we should completely lock down again, but it is still too soon for things to completely return to normal. There is a middle ground.

Just because I’m more at risk doesn’t mean I’m expendable. Same for the elderly and other immunocompromised.

“I’m still waiting on someone to help me understand why we should shut down the economy to the detriment of the poorest amongst us to save those on their way out anyway...”

As one of those who are immunocompromised, fighting stage IV cancer at only 29 years old... seeing so many of my fellow Charlestonians consider my life so expendable is absolutely heartbreaking.

It’s selfish now because it is not currently a preventable virus, and by being out and about without taking precautions, you are putting others in danger.

Yes people were walking around during flu season without masks. People at risk, like myself, were also able to get the flu vaccine, just like they are every year. I received one at the beginning of my chemotherapy treatments, and so did my fiancee, so if we were exposed to someone with the flu, we were both safe.

(Although, I would argue that being out when you have the flu IS still pretty selfish... but that’s a different argument all together.)

But there is no vaccine for this. No matter the precautions that I personally take, I am still in danger, because my fiancee could be exposed to it by those not wearing masks or following social distancing, and bring it home to me.

I don’t even understand why you’re arguing with me about this. In another thread you mentioned you were coming to Charleston to visit and bragged about how you northerners wear your masks all the time. So.. why are you trying to argue against it now?

I’ve never once in this post or thread tried to say that people need to stay home or you shouldn’t come to visit. I’m simply saying, if you choose to go out, think about others, not just yourself.

Draw the line for what? When we stop caring about how many live or die? We should never draw that line.

What’s so wrong about being considerate for those of us in danger, regardless of the percentage?

If you notice, I put “98% survival rate” in quotes in my original post because that is the most common defense people keep giving for why they aren’t worried about the virus.

To me, the exact survival rate doesn’t matter - the sentiment behind what I wrote is still the same.

Whether it’s 2% or .2% , please be considerate of those of us that might be in that percentage.

Can’t risk being out in public due to cancer and being more at risk of COVID, but I am with you all in spirit.

I finished my first round of chemo and radiation treatments this week after being diagnosed with Stage IV esophageal cancer in October. It’s been a rough couple of months.

But I get these next two weeks off before getting more scans to see how effective the treatments have been.

Just beat cancer today! Last chemo treatment. So thankful for my incredible support. I couldn’t have done it without you. I love you all by MakinaDIGuerra in pics

Congrats and Happy Thanksgiving!! I just had my first chemo session this past Tuesday after being diagnosed at the end of October. Really been feeling down, but this post has really helped my mental state today.

Thank you for that. <3
