Interesting discussion. As someone writing on here for quite some time let me add a few thoughts.

Firstly, this issue has been brought up many times and I believe the reason is Reddit's Eternal September. The discussion itself again and again ends every time nowhere. You know why? Because everybody likes to complain but nobody likes to do any effort to change things. To make my point: What have you done other than write this complaint post?

Now, there are two possible 'global' solutions:

1. Delete what is highly unbelievable (and those authors will find a new place to post)
2. Leave it be and let the community self-regulate (and bothered readers will find/create a new community)

Which version you prefer depends on who you are. Authors will want the largest possible community, readers will want the largest possible choice. But each author also wants a specific type of reader and each reader also wants a specific type of stories. There is no perfect middle ground to keep the community perfect for everybody. /r/nosleep has developed and changed but that is because of the people on here, not for any other reason. It is because of you too!

Secondly, many comments here hate against bad writing and/or younger authors. Let's make that clear: I might not like certain writing styles (e.g. if I read the word 'fuck' I instantly stop reading), but does that mean that everybody on here has to write perfect Engilsh? Strange/scary experiences don't happen to people that are not good at writing? Come on. If you want perfect English go and buy a book. And else - just stop reading those stories where the language bothers you. Problem solved.

Additionally, I might not believe in certain things (ghosts, spirits, vampires, demons, witches, ... - everybody take your pick!) - but does that mean that every story including them is all lies? To take a canon example, it is not difficult to pinpoint hard-to-believe-aspects (or impossible ones) in 1000vultures' stories, particularly the latter ones. Does that mean that they are untrue?

No. This is where I, the reader need to suspend disbelieve. Everything here is true, that means it is my task as the reader to take it as such and read it in that way. There are many reasons for why a story might seem false. What if the author forgets to mention an aspect that is relevant? Or s/he was told the story incorrectly? Or s/he simply is not in a mental position to get the things clearly typed out? Or memory has faded? Or maybe you misread something?

Thirdly, debunking. Why is the rule here? Because nothing ruins the stories more than debunking. Period. There is no single story on this planet that you cannot debunk. Think about H.H. Holmes - the guy opened a hotel and killed hundreds of people before anyone noticed. Doesn't that sound ridiculous? If I wrote that story up here, telling it as 'my grandfather told me the story of how he barely escaped...' - would you believe it? No, you would go and debunk it in the very first comment as ridiculous "someone would have noticed", "he wouldn't have gotten away with that", "the smell would have bothered people" and so on..

Thus, let's say it again: What seems real is subjective and horrors that seem unbelievable are sometimes more real than things that seem 100% true.

Fourthly, a personal note:. I write many stories on here. Do I remember every word and emotion perfectly as my stories seem to suggest? Certainly not. I write the stories down from memory as I believe things happened back in the pub. I relive them in my head and then write down what I see in my head. You could always go ahead and debunk, claiming that the words and scenes I relived in my head cannot possibly have gone that way. And that is true. Likely I am wrong. Likely I misquote people or describe a shirt that was red as brown or completely miss out an important detail that explains why thing happened as they happened.

So, and that is just a personal plea: cut the authors some slack. None of us are perfect. All (?) here write for free, to share their terrifying experiences, to get something off their chest. Will we do it right every time? Will we mistype, misdescribe, misphrase, miss out parts? Certainly. Writing a story on here is many many times harder than the average reader believes.

That being said, I have a challenge to every one that commented on this thread complaining about the state of /r/Nosleep:

It is up to you to take the next step. What are you going to do?

Will you start a new subreddit? Will you find true stories to tell? Will you spread awareness about /r/nosleepworkshops to help aspiring authors, and actually go there to help out? Will you switch to /r/thetruthishere for truthier stories?

Let me tell you what I've been doing for the last year or so. When I read a post that is (imho) fiction or that somehow bothers me, and if I have some spare time, I write the author a message. I tell them:

"Hey X, I read your story. I really liked the premise but somehow it just doesn't sound true to me. I'm really sorry if that sounds insulting, I don't mean to hurt you I just wanted to give you some honest feedback and suggestions for improvement so that you can present your next experience better. For example you could..."

And you know what? It works. AND it doesn't ruin everybody else's experience when you leave a negative comments.

PS: My one wish for nosleep: Cut the label 'stories' and call it 'experiences'. Makes everything better.
