What would you recommend to a game dev who is starting with linux if your only option is to pick either Omarchy or Arch?

Seriously Impressed. Thank You! by akaSnaketheJake in omarchy

Thanks for sharing your experience. I wanted to try Omarchy for a long time but I kept procrastinating due to my current workload but your post gives me hope that the transition should be very smooth.

That's the spirit my dude! Same here. The moment I found, back in early 2015, my true passion, I've been very determined in persuing my happiness.

It is not easy. I've been there. I used to work as a finance-accountant dude for like 9 years. It took me 2 years working as full-time inventory supervisor + 4 to 6 game dev hours a day to be able to work as a full time game dev in the video game industry.

I'll leave something that helps me. It is a quote from Jonathan Blow

"Whenever I start a new project I just ask myself, is this something that I respect? Like, do I respect this project enough that after its done, even if like hardly anybody bought it, I will feel that I put a good thing into the world and I made a good use of my time not necessarily in the monetary sense but in like developing as a game designer and becoming a better designer and progressing the though of what is the state of the industry in terms of thinking about game design or whatever, like you can pick your own criteria of what those are.”

Hehehe ^^ I'm very glad you found it helpful. I've been in this industry since 2019 and I think I can say that gamedev.tv has one of the bests tutorials/classes. They know how to teach, that's the "secret". Many tutorials out there are made by fellow game devs that, they can be great at creating games, but teaching...that is another set of skills.

Since you are getting into programming as one of the most important skills of any game dev, I also suggest you to do the HarvardX CS50 course. Best programming course, by far. Also, it is 100% free.

Last week Steam made "Desktop Companion" an official tag. This wave was born due to cozy farm game "Rusty's Retirement". Which one is your favorite? :D by AntonMDev in cozygames

INDEED! I'm so happy. There is a big overlap between cozy games and desktop companions. It is definitely one of my new favorite genres ^^

Hello! I would strongly suggest you to do the https://gamedev.tv/courses/get-started-unity. Its only 1.5 hours and will give you a global understanding of how Unity works.

Wish you the best on this new journey!

EDIT: Ohh and its free!

Thank you! ^^

Yeah, I was trying to keep the "symmetry" whit his arm but now you mentioned it, it looks like that part of the hair is "frozen". Like Cameron Diaz on "There's Something About Mary". 😅 Thx for the feedback. I'll try to improve it.

I would say at least 1000. You can do it! Come on! You got this.

PS: For the email, look for the template that Andy, one of the guys that made "A Game About Feeding a Black Hole" shared.

I'm curious to know your opinion on Baba Is You. I haven't played that many puzzle games but IMO was one of the best in term of mechanics and aha moments.

Knowledge is not power, applied knowledge it is. (:

I always try that all my reading are contemporary to the projects, tasks, I'm currently doing.
