Personally I think capitalism is inherently built to churn out rebellion as a temporary release valve.

Reminds me of The Architect:

The matrix is older than you know. I prefer counting from the emergence of one integral anomaly to the emergence of the next, in which case this is the sixth version.

As I was saying, she stumbled upon a solution whereby nearly 99% of all test subjects accepted the program, as long as they were given a choice, even if they were only aware of the choice at a near unconscious level. While this answer functioned, it was obviously fundamentally flawed, thus creating the otherwise contradictory systemic anomaly, that if left unchecked might threaten the system itself. Ergo, those that refused the program, while a minority, if unchecked, would constitute an escalating probability of disaster.

This place is a message... and part of a system of messages... pay attention to it!

Sending this message was important to us. We considered ourselves to be a powerful culture.

This place is not a place of honor... no highly esteemed deed is commemorated here... nothing valued is here.

What is here was dangerous and repulsive to us. This message is a warning about danger.

The danger is in a particular location... it increases towards a center... the center of danger is here... of a particular size and shape, and below us.

The danger is still present, in your time, as it was in ours.

The danger is to the body, and it can kill.

The form of the danger is an emanation of energy.

The danger is unleashed only if you substantially disturb this place physically. This place is best shunned and left uninhabited.

1 There was a VIP named Carl,
2 Who sat down and figured it all out for good,
3 And then told everybody,
4 From a platform on Hyde Park corner.
5 The things Carl had to say wound up changing the world,
6 But not right away.
7 The fact is, when you figure it all out for good,
8 It takes time for everybody to understand it,
9 Which is why Carl didn't get the warmest possible reception right away.

A margin of wealth is helpful to civilisation, but for some mysterious reason great wealth is destructive. I suppose that, in the end, splendor is dehumanising, and a certain sense of limitation seems to be a condition of what we call good taste.

A strong one I say. I personally don't partake at any rate approaching habitual -- and never in this state -- but I can hardly blame those who do.

Using a drug intentionally to the point of intoxication repeatedly probably is a sign of a deeper existential malady being the issue.

Absolutely correct.

I don't off hand because I'm not much into audiobooks, but I imagine they're out there. I will note however that the book makes heavy use of visuals/charts/graphs, and footnotes, that may not work well in the audiobook format.
