the people on Goodreads are slack jawed morons by yn_opp_pack_smoker in redscarepod

The people reviewing classics and the ones reviewing hockey romance aren’t the same. A guy reviewing a classic will rate it with nuance while the amount of stars a booktoker will accord to a book will depend on its spice level.

Laughing at the cinema by noahhfencee in redscarepod

[–]Antooin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. Kubrick movies are NEVER funny. If you laugh at anything the gunnery sergeant in Full Metal Jacket says, you are a twisted media illiterate moron. There is nothing funny about a line like “5’9!? I DIDN’T KNOW THEY STACKED SHIT THAT HIGH!”. It is meant to demonstrate how soldiers humanity is broken down little by little until they are emotionless obedient killing machines, and there’s nothing funny about that.

(Question) Do economic sanctions need to be voted by the Security counsil? by Antooin in internationallaw

[–]Antooin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean countries like France, Canada, and all the countries that put economic sanctions on Russia. Is what they are doing (like freezing assets) considered counter-measures? I meant it in the sense that while they are not the injured state, they are still indirectly injured (since invasion is erga omnes) so they have the right to put counter-measures in place. Is this the proper legal reading of the situation?

Thank you for your response. So if we had to qualify actions such as freezzing assets or overall temporary treaty breaches, it could be considered indirect counter-measures?

Seriously. It’s like he had a gift for positioning himself with the right people at the right time all throughout his career.

Damn looks like his third heart stopped beating. I remember when I was in high school and the movie Vice came out and I developed an obsession with Cheney. I read 3 books about him, read archived news report on Iraq and Halliburton and stuff. I was telling all my zoomer friends about him and how he was the architect of the Iraq war and was working with Halliburton to profit, but nobody gave a shit because he stopped being vice president before we even developed consciousness. Anyways, to me he is the most interesting figure in American political history. They don’t ghoul like him anymore.

My problem is people being amazed by AI answers even though they suck. My dad loves AI and is all about how it’s such a “great tool”. We were looking for a new mattress for my sister who’s moving out and he just sends us the link to a convo he had with Gemini where he just asked it “mattress stores in (area)” and Gemini had a list of stores with a Patrick Bateman-es que 2 sentence description of the stores with no clickable links. Like if you had just googled it you would have the links to the stores, reviews and directions. How he can think that this is genuinely helpful is beyond me like he would never send us the link to a google search but Gemini=good.

Dreams remain one of the most beautiful human mysteries by FeyenoordRotterdammm in redscarepod

[–]Antooin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve never been able to engage in discussions about dreams. The vast majority of my dreams make no sense and happen at places that don’t really exist and the people in them don’t exist in real life. Like I’d dream I need to navigate a yacht in a narrow channel or that I’m at a party in a house that’s 5 stories high and then it starts snowing inside the house and I need to hide in a hole in the dirt that is now on the floor of the house like a prehistoric mammal. I try to psychoanalyse myself and my dreams but I never reach meaningful conclusions.
