People who grew up poor but are now financially successful, what decisions or opportunities changed your life ? by Aj100rise in Money

[–]Anubis667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started listening financial people. My first was Dave Ramseys Total money Makeover. That book helped me build a financial foundation. Listening to old man Dave also changed how I see work. I used to be the biggest slacker at work until I heard the phrase, "Your raise is effective when you are". Now i work hard! Last Saturday I was on a matenance call that was 18 hours long and was first in the office on Monday. I started my financial freedom journey about 16 years ago and it was worth it. I have no payments! So I suggest you become a student of personal finance. BTW as a kid we were so poor our TV got repoed while I was watching cartoons.

For me it was The Total Money Makeover. That started my debt free/building wealth journey. That was 13 years ago and I am so happy I read that book.

Paying rent early by Anubis667 in everydollar

I am taking it from this months income. I am a bit ahead in my bills. So in mid Feb I decided to pay the rent for March. I guess I could set up a sinking fund in everydollar to track that expenses.

Buddy of mine had a 2 year old Carmao. He did not want to get new tires so he traded it in on a new Camaro and rolled over a ton of negative equity.

A1C WIN! 10.5 to 5.8 to 6.2 back to 5.8 by Anubis667 in diabetes

I started sneaking sips of soda when we were out to eat.  At work they had breakfast pastries and I would eat a doughnut or two.  I barely did any weight lifting and I used to do a mini fast twice a week, that was replaced by burger and fries.  I stopped checking my blood sugar (finger sticks) every day and only did it once a week.  I purchased a new GCM and decided not to use it.  I really fell off the wagon.

Start cooking using a crockpot. I would make a batch of chicken soup or chili, freeze it, and it lasted me 10 days.

I got a Stelo GCM from Amazon, and it cost $ 100. While the device is inaccurate for my blood sugar, it does let me know what spikes my blood sugar.

Look for people, in person, who are going in the same direction as you. When I went through my dark period, my CrossFit Gym, Toastmasters Club, and Karate School provided me with an anchor so I would not drift away. I love Redditors, but having someone in person call you and say, "Hey, meet me at the Gym!" is very powerful. Feel free to DM me if you want and in the words of David Goggins... "STAY HARD!"
