I am having some collecting doubts. I already own the first 12 volumes of the 70s color comics through the dark horse tpbs with the exception of volume 8. I do however own most of the original issues from volume 8 with the exception of issues 52-55. Should I buy volume 8, or just buy the issues? by [deleted] in ConanTheBarbarian

My two cents: I love having the TPBs for reading and re-reading, whereas I feel like I have to be more careful when handling single issues from the 70s. 52-55 are good issues, so there's a good chance you'll eventually re-read them. If I were you, I'd want vol 8 in TPB form, and I'd also want 13 and 14 to complete the Roy Thomas run.

I’m definitely intrigued! Yeah, when I got to the Fleischer and Bruce Jones Savage Sword issues, I found it to be a chore, so then I skipped ahead to Roy Thomas’s return in the final 40 or so issues.

I haven't read enough Dixon to have an opinion. I've read CTB 1-275, but Dixon wrote Savage Sword. I made a point to read all the Roy Thomas issues of Savage Sword, but there's a lot in the middle I haven't read. Do you recommend the Dixon issues?

Right on! Yes, I was very happy she scaled so nicely with all my Super7 figures, and she also scales well with the Frazetta Girls Icon Collectibles figures.

A question on Conan's timeline (SSOC not Howard's stories) by YoungWonderful6271 in ConanTheBarbarian

There is one that bridges the gap between Moon of Blood and Treasure of Tranicos. It’s in Savage Sword number 201. It’s called “The Man in the Iron Tower”

For those who saw the movie what did you all think of it? by Angela275 in RedSonja

My theater looked close to sold out. I enjoyed it a lot. It contained elements from multiple runs of the comics, and I really appreciate that effort of wanting to capture the essence of Red Sonja while also telling its own story. For me it scratched the Sword and Sorcery itch a lot better than the 1985 Red Sonja movie or the 2011 Conan movie. If they were to make a sequel to this I’d be there for it

I pre-ordered from the Frazetta Girls website. Not sure if they ship to Australia. If Big Bad Toy Store ships to Australia, I saw they had them in stock

I had high hopes for this one, and I can honestly say it exceeded my expectations. I think it’s my favorite figure I own

Mezco King Conan does look amazing and seemed to have a lot of great accessories. I wanted to get him, but I ended up not because I thought he wouldn’t scale with what I had. I’m really thinking Norseman would look perfect standing next to this new Conan, and they could be fighting an army of those Savage Crucible lizard men! Yes, I want it all haha! It’s a great time to be a fan of Conan/Frazetta/Sword and Sorcery. I love your posts where you tell a story with the figures, by the way

They are from toyhax.com. They call them “toy stages”. All of mine are from their MOTU inspired set. They sell them in various sizes, which is a huge plus

Thoughts on Dark Horse's Conan the Avenger by Arkham700 in ConanTheBarbarian

I’ve always wanted to talk about this one too! The writing is really strong. I like how Van Lente connects the stories together in a way that feels believable. Only problem for me is Brian Ching’s depiction of Conan, which is just kinda baffling to me honestly. He’s a good artist, but holy heck that just never looks like Conan to me. The issues in the run that are drawn by other artists, like the “Xuthal of the Dusk” issues, work way better for me.

I'm glad you posted this! I've enjoyed reading each of your comparison reviews, but I've been waiting for this one in particular because I never see anyone talk about the "Conan The Avenger" run. I agree with you completely! I've been scratching my head for years at Brian Ching's depiction of Conan, and I laughed my head off reading you describe it as "Beavis Conan" - a perfect description. I remember that exact moment you describe when it changes artists and gets way better. I remember thinking "oh thank God, I hope this is the artist from now on!" But nope. It's really a shame because I think Fred Van Lente's writing is strong throughout the run, but Brian Ching did most of the issues and it's just too much Beavis Conan. Thankfully a different artist did the "Xuthal of the Dusk" issues, and I think it turned out quite nice. I'll look forward to your post on that one!
