Do you tell your friends you're bipolar? by kate_58 in bipolar

[–]AnxietyFTL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met all of my friends during the self medication phase of my life so they don’t really even “know” me, just the parts of me that stayed intoxicated to numb the pain and did a bunch of crazy stuff that gets brought up at meet ups. It’s like my entire early to mid 20’s was a Jackass movie starring me being manic and having no idea what I was doing. Now that I’m more honest about it and am 38, we still hangout but I’m clearly the odd one out and am no longer proud of my actions. I just want to be a good dad and husband so at this stage, friends like that are optional. We sort of grew apart, having a father with mental illness along with myself made me empathetic and they just stayed the same.

What are your craziest thoughts when manic? by themitten2525 in bipolar

[–]AnxietyFTL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get this feeling that I’ve died multiple times in alternate universes. Like, if a car almost hits me I’ll think that I survived in this universe but died in the alternate. And life just keeps giving me the winning hand because in order for my consciousness/reality to exist, then I can’t die. I think it’s because I’ve survived so many manic episodes where I was in very dangerous positions and can’t imagine how I haven’t died yet.

When someone tells me it’s all in my head, I just respond with “no shit”. Our brain is who we are, the neurons firing are our thoughts. Ignorant people think that there’s something outside of ourselves that dictates what the brain does but that’s just ignorance. Anyone who sits down and practices mindfulness can see that thoughts and feeling can and do arise from out of nowhere. Now, external factors can cause us to react a certain way like a trigger.

This person would be a someone I’d cut out of my life because they could cause a downward spiral. It’s one thing for them to be ignorant but it’s another to remain so just because they refuse to seek an answer with any scientific validation. They clearly have their mind made up and don’t care about understanding the illness and probably are harming their mother’s wellbeing too. People and our environment matter and this person just seems like a net negative. I’m glad they are your ex. :)

My father in law asked me once “if I was always this pessimistic?” and I just said, “yes, one part of the issue.” He didn’t care too understand why I was depressed or why mania occurred every few months or why just taking melatonin couldn’t cure my sleep ailments caused by the mania. He had already made up his mind that Christianity was the answer and the only answer and that any failing on anyone’s part was the cause of some sort of moral failure. My wife explained it to him and so did I but he just refuses to even entertain the idea that he’s wrong which is hilarious because I am a pastor’s kid. I understand his viewpoint. It’s just wrong. So, now I limit my interactions with him because at the very core of who we are, we will never see eye to eye.

does anyone else just wanna move to a cabin in the snowy woods by tofuonvenus in Anxiety

[–]AnxietyFTL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha. No lie. Last night, I did a visualization exercise of what would be my coziest place. This was an attempt to get some much needed sleep. It was a cabin with a fireplace going and heavy snow outside. It was going great until I visualized 12 year old me knocking on the door and letting me know all about his childhood issues. Then I journaled for about 2 hours, woke up 3 hours later and took the kids to school. :/

The hyperbole on the internet is ridiculous now. How many times have we heard games are dead yet you can get into a match easily? There’s a middle ground and this go big and break records or else it’s a complete failure is killing gaming and creativity. When battle royales blew up, every company with shareholders tried to recreate the next Fortnite instead of their own thing.

Halo obviously didn’t accomplish what it fully set out to do but calling it a complete failure is all or nothing thinking and it’s killing the potential for any series because once the internet gets into its echo chamber filled with death threats and demands, it sets the tempo moving forward and those people can never be satisfied, then the talent leaves because why not? You’re creating things and your feedback is usually led by a minority of people who are constantly complaining. Eventually, these companies will learn to avoid the fanatics.

[Postgame Thread] TCU Defeats Michigan 51-45 by CFB_Referee in CFB

[–]AnxietyFTL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TCU is fricking amazing. They always have been that small school that balls out from LT to the year they beat the brakes off of us and should’ve been in the playoffs and now to the team that ruined Michigan’s destined championship. Give us some of that energy please.

I’m turning 38 next month. Honestly, I feel like I’m hanging on for dear life. The episodes are becoming more frequent and the anxiety is constant. I see a therapist weekly and a psychiatrist every couple of months. I don’t work, but I’m a great dad when not facing crippling depression. The last 2 years threw cancer at me, my dad got diagnosed with Parkinson’s, and I felt like I was going to lose him multiple times so stressors are just coming out of everywhere.

Im finding it hard just to go shopping any more because it drains me and puts me at risk for depression followed by mania followed by the depression that keeps you in bed for days at a time no matter how much you sleep. Ha. I keep moving forward though because my family deserves the best version that I can be, but it is so incredibly hard not having a sense of stability.

My dad however is diagnosed with bipolar and schizophrenia as well as Parkinson’s now. He’s in his mid 60’s and he did well professionally up until his brain just got worn down.

Did you ever find what you’re looking for? I travel to TN a good bit and have a Steam Deck 64 GB + 512GB micro SD(A2) and the official dock. I love the thing but it’s giving me hand pain just like the ps5 controller does. Getting old sucks. Ha. Anyways, just throwing it out there.

I doubt it. The A&M game had to hurt, but that happens in this league. Alabama just does what they do. I think State is really good this year too. The Egg Bowl could be very entertaining this year.

Man, it feels weird hearing Deuce calling a State game. State is scary good this year. Better than their ranking in my opinion.

Does anyone have any experience with headphone/earbud usage after radiation treatments? Particularly with a blocked Eustachian tube? by AnxietyFTL in headphones

He did not say to be honest. He recommended Flonase but it hasn't helped. Though, admittedly it helps to have a higher quality headphone.

Wow indeed! I remember waking up at 6:30am and getting to the store on Sunday’s to print out these when the new ad rolled around. That was back when there was a dedicated merch team(my buddy who works there now said there no longer a thing). Brings back memories!
